This manual is adapted from once such programme, "Program H: Working with Young Men Series", developed in Brazil by Instituto PROMUNDO. It is aimed at both government and non-government organizations (NGOs) aiming to promote gender equity and address masculinity as a strategy for the prevention of HIV infection. This manual promotes the positive aspects of masculinity, encouraging men's participation in sexual and reproductive health, promotes respect for sexual diversity and improves the understanding of the body and sexuality. HIV prevention is addressed within the larger framework of gender roles and relationships. Activities discussed in the manual are organized around four key themes: * gender * sexuality and reproductive health * violence * HIV and AIDS prevention. A significant feature of this manual is that it has been validated through community-based participatory research in several urban and rural areas of India. It is published in Hindi and in English to encourage wide-spread use in India. It will also be translated into other local languages. Users are encouraged to adapt it for their particular contexts using local examples, the local idiom and context-specific characterisation.
