Trained noticin'

2006-01-31 Thread Janet Anderson
Folks, I've been going through my season four DVD set, and I've noticed some
things that are new to me and that I don't believe I've heard mentioned before
on the digest (though I may have missed them). Any non-TAGS fan would probably
think me a bit daft to get excited about such trivial trivialities, but I
figured my digest friends would appreciate them!

1. In Prisoner of Love, there are two scenes (one where Barney is
frantically getting a pillow and stuffing it through the cell bars for the lady
prisoner and one where Andy and Barney are dragging Otis from his cell and out
of the court house) where Barney is obviously not wearing the right hat. The
hat is way too big, dropping down to his neck in the back and squishing his
ears. In the other scenes, he is wearing his usual well-fitting hat. This
made me wonder if somehow his hat got misplaced between scenes and they had to
use Andy's hat (I'm guessing he would take a larger size) as a substitute.
When you notice it, it looks downright ridiculous, especially since the hats
change between scenes!

2. In Hot Rod Otis, Andy is in the midst of undressing for the night when
Otis asks for a drink and then wants Andy to tell him a bedtime story. When
Andy unlocks the cell door on both occasions, there are TWO rings, each with a
key, hanging on the peg between the cells. He takes one off the peg, and
another is left hanging on the peg. I don't recall any other time that I saw
TWO separate key rings hanging up. Does anyone else? (I also noticed that the
first time Andy closed the cell door, he left the key hanging in the lock, but
when he came back to tell Otis the story, the key was back on the peg, and he
had to grab it to put back in the lock. A little slip-up by the continuity
person, I guess.)

3. Now this last one got me almost as worked up as the two key rings! I was
watching The Shoplifters last night when I realized that Mr. Weaver's tie
looked mighty familiar. So I did some checking with the zoom feature, and I
discovered that Mr. Weaver was wearing Gomer's tie from A Date for Gomer!
You know, the purple one with acorns on it? However, the more I thought about
it, the less amazing it seemed. After all, Gomer likely bought all his new
accessories right there at Weaver's, including the tie. Mr. Weaver just
happened to select the same tie to accessorize his own suit. I guess that,
despite being a prominent businessman and community leader, his taste wasn't
any better than Gomer's! Wonder if he was also wearing those porous yellow
socks??

Sorry for the long post! I just had to share my discoveries with my Mayberry
friends!

Convicts Car

Just wondered if anybody has an idea what kind of car Floyd and Barney were

It appears that it might be a 40's something Chrysler or Dodge.
Not 40s, I dont think. I thought that was a 32 ford, maybe a 34 at the
latest.

The Cast that Wasn't

2006-01-31 Thread Dan Goodwin
Somebody mentioned Alfred Hitchcock and that got me to thinking about cast
members that weren't. Couldn't you just see Hitch doing a walk-on (like Tom
Jacobs) in some Mayberry situation and have him just turn a give the camera
a look of disbelief then rumble on off camera?

Or have Patricia O'neal (from Face in the Crowd) show up as a minor
character as an inside joke. Or maybe have Dennis Weaver (Marshall Dillon's
deputy) do a guest shot as an interloping deputy from the capital (Remember
Rogers and the lessons he learned from Barn).

RE: Subject: Andy handles Barney's Sidecar

2006-01-31 Thread Ron McLendon
Does anybody else have something about a TAGS character that
especially helps inspire them to be a better person? I especially
like the episode Mr. McBeevee; when asked if he believed that nonsense
about Mr. McBeevee, Andy answered, No, but I do believe in Opie. To
me, that's the best one.**Barn (Ron McLendon)

Mayberry Poetry

2006-01-31 Thread K . Darden
Kenneth G. Anderson is the only person who responded to my challenge to
write a poem about Mayberry places so far, but he wrote a doozy! I
decided to share it with the Digest before the book comes out to let
you see how good some of the poems are in the 2006 book. Ken's fine
poem is The Sites of Mayberry at
http://www.christianactivities.com/mayberry/story.asp?ID=5325

I am already arranging the first draft, but it will take a while to get
it all organized just right, so I can still squeeze in another poem or
two on any Mayberry characters/themes if anyone else has one up their
sleeve! More info at:

The Barney's Sidecar episode just aired on our local affiliate. I thought
Andy handled the situation very well. One of the things that inspires me
about
this show is that Andy usually manages to find a kind, Christian way to deal
with silly people like Barney

And he kept Aunt Bee from stringing a wire across the road like the Germans.
