16 Kids and counting
Howdy, Just to let you know. "Leave It To Beaver" aired 1957 to 1963. Also, noted a real life reference to TAGS this Sunday while watching a show about a family with 16 children. As they were leaving for vacation, the father said to the kids, "Remember our rules: Rule No. 1, Obey All Rules. Rule No.2, No Writing On The Wall As It Takes A Lot Of Work To Remove Writing Off Of The Walls..." I was wondering how on earth they managed with so many children, but I guessed they did it the "Andy" way. They surely did seem happy and well behaved. Ken's postings and Mayberry Moment
Ken, please don't assume we don't want to read your postings. As I've told you privately before, we both grew up in a very Mayberry-like small town - you in Wisc. and me in Mont. - which shared lots of similarities to Mayberry. But your writings are wonderful and heartwarming, so don't feel like you need to refrain from writing. We enjoy them. I also had a Mayberry Moment last night. While watching "Shreck 2" (animated movie) with my daughter, I noticed that a couple of the charachters asked a question and then continued to ask "huh?" several times - just like Warren used to. These cartoons are written by adults and have lots of funny adult humor in them, but I didn't expect a Tags reference. I wonder who the writer of that line was - he must be a fan! Going Home
Hi You'all, Hey Ken, don't stop sending these kind of post. It's wonderful to hear things of this nature. Just about the time I get to thinking, there's no one left who is led by there heart, I'm pleasantly proven wrong. What a truly sweet thing to do, "mixing up" the soil as you did. You may have mentioned but I don't recall, is your mother still living? If so, I'm sure she would've said "You're a good son Ken!" I'd like to go home again too. My little home town is still a small Mayberryish town. I know, in reality, one can rarely go home again but it is fun to think about it. I've often said, I'd like to go back home, buy the property our old rented house sat on, build a nice modern house there and just live out my retirement years being comfortable but able to for the rest of my life to roam my much loved streets. I've written a poem about those streets and how I loved them. I agree with Aunt Bee of Orlando about Randy Davis' post about his teens watching TAGS! "More Power To Ya" kids!!! Keep on lovin' Mayberry! Hey Doug, I was thinking about what you said about the color in the season #6 disks. I do recall remarking that the colors seemed brighter too. As to the color green, several years back the the folks were painting almost everything green. (well, maybe not their kids LOL) Green was a favorite back then. I don't know if that's the reason for using more green in those episodes or if it is because green tends to be a soothing color. If the intention was to sooth us while watching TAGS, "I Appreciate it" but I'm already soothed just watching TAGS whether color or black&whites! You 'all Have A Mayberry Day! RE: Another Thanks To Mr. Davis
A great big thank you to Randy Davis for his heartwarming message. You just don't know how much it means to me to know that there are some fine teens out there who watch TAGS and appreciate it and wish for decent fare on TV. It is so easy to get discouraged with all the filth and grief we see in the media these days so I just rejoice when hearing news like this. Our fellow Mayberrians don't realize how much we help one another with these positive messages. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! Aunt Bee of Orlando == I would also like to thank Mr. Davis for pointing out the good in today's youth. TAGS has been a big part of my two children's television viewing through out their life. In fact not only did we watch the episodes together but as a very young child, rather than playing lullabies for them to go to sleep to, I played episodes of TAGS that I had recorded on cassette tapes for them. My children are now just about grown. They are twins, now 17 and graduated high school this year...And if you will please allow a proud father to brag, my daughter graduated Valedictorian and will attend a local college on an academic scholarship. My son graduated Salutatorian and leaves one week from today to attend the U.S. Air Force Academy. I am so proud of both of my children (...and I assure you that both received their brains from their mom's side of the family). Anyway, with the pressures of school, sports, homework, etc...when things need to slow down and just take a moment to relax, both of my children will return to TAGS (now made easier with the DVDs out). There is hardly a night that goes by that at least one TAGS episode is not played prior to bed. I'm not saying that TAGS was the sole cause of good children, but in addition to Church involvement (to get your heart right), sports (to stay so busy there is no time to get in trouble) and such, it certainly does not hurt for them to know TAGS "almost by heart". Re: My Juanita
*** yep, it was good ol' Ward Cleaver snging "Juanita" on Leave it to Beaver. always thought Barn wrote the song, but guess not, since Cleaver did it. and that show was in the early to mid 50's?*** "Leave It to Beaver" ran 1957-63. The "My Juanita" song has roots as far back as 1909. It was written by Caroline Norton. Jim Reeves did a version of it in 1958 in which he made enough changes to either the lyrics or melody that he got a co-songwriting credit. Dixon Check out AOL.com today. Sing along with Barn (and me)
Hey, let's have a sing along like Barn and Rafe. Here's the words to Juanita, a one and a two and a here we go.. Nita Juanita, Ask thy soul if we should part Nita Juanita, Lean thou on my heart. Soft o'er the fountain Ring falls the southern moon Far o'er the mountain Breaks the day too soon. In thy dark eyes' splendor Where the warm light loves to dwell Weary looks, yet tender Speak thy fond farewell. (Nita Juanita,) (Let me linger by your side) Nita Juanita, Be my own fair bride. (Nita Juanita,) (Ask thy soul if we should part) Nita Juanita, Lean Thou on my heart... That was great, now dry those tears and decide what to sing next. How bout one we can dance to? re: statue in honor
I haven't seen any of the plans for the statue, but maybe the final product wouldn't look good to the executer of the estate, whoever that is. No matter what that persons reason is, let's just honor their wishes and move on. Juanita
"yep, it was good ol' Ward Cleaver snging "Juanita" on Leave it to Beaver. always thought Barn wrote the song, but guess not, since Cleaver did it." The song Juanita has another TAGS link. On Father Knows Best, Jim Anderson sang it. Maybe when Betty Anderson became Ellie Walker, she brought the song with her? Kim - Wylie, TX - Talk is cheap. Use Yahoo! The Statue Moooooolage
Hey folks, With all due respect I think it is time to put the statue issue to rest. Let's just say a couple of fans wanted to do something for Don Knotts and it just didn't happen. That's not to say that it won't ever happen but just not right now. There are way too many issues to explain and it would serve no purpose anyway. Let's all just keep our Mayberry friends in our hearts and minds. Make every effort to go out and see them in person if you can and thank them for making us smile. Gary Check out AOL.com today.
