E.L.H.M. ELY
From my college Hebrew classes, I am guessing Cherio was Jewish as I believe the E.L.H.M. ELY may stand for Elohim Eloi, using the Hebraic fashion of dropping the vowels when mentioning God. Just a guess - perhaps someone else knows for sure. Also we have found out this is on her tombstone: It reads in memory of our beloved Cheerio. Then the next line says: E.L.H.M. I was wondering if anyone here has any information on this wonderfull actress? We know of several series and movies that she starred in and her Date of Birth and Death and where she is buried, but this is all we can find on her. Non-AGS sighting of Mr Schwamp
This might be old news, if it is--forgive me! But, in any case: it's BIG! I was watching the 1945 film Christmas in Connecticut over the holidays which featured Dick Elliott (Mayor Pike) as a judge...but that's not the BIG news! In a crowded room seen, I believe I saw OUR OWN MR. SCHWAMP sitting in a chair smiling. I'm going to try to track down the movie to watch that part again! Can anybody confirm or deny?! 411 on Cheerio and etc.
Does anyone have any information on this mysterious creature or is she going to become another Mr. Schwump? We do have the name of the actress Cheerio Meredith, so she doesn't hardly qualify for the mystery level the likes of Mr. Schwamp, Hazel, Nice Dress Nellie, etc. For those who haven't seen it, Here's a little more from another internet source: Cheerio Meredith (1890 - 1964) This sweet little lady actress had a fairly short-lived career which began late in her senior years, but the appearances she made were quite memorable. She was a tiny lady with chipmunk cheeks and a squeaky, but not irritable, voice. Very little is known of her early years, save that she was born on July 12, 1890 in Missouri and we continue the search for her biography. Among her film credits were: A Fig Leaf for Eve (1944) as Tilly the Old Drunk, her film debut; The Fat Man (1951) as Scrubwoman; I'll Cry Tomorrow (1951) as Elderly Woman; I Married a Woman (1958) as Mrs. Wilkins; The Case Against Brooklyn (1958) as Mrs. Carney; The Legend of Tom Dooley (1959); The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm (1962) as Mrs. Von Dittersdorf; The Three Stooges in Orbit (1962) as Old Maid in commercial; and Sex and the Single Girl (1964) as Elderly Woman, her last film. On television she played a semi-regular role on The Andy Griffith Show (1960-68) as Emma Brand Watson and was a regular on One Happy Family (1961) playing Lovey Hackett. She also guest starred on The Adventures of Rin Tin Tin; Bronco; Perry Mason; Rawhide; Bonanza; The Dick Van Dyke Show and Petticoat Junction on TV. She died on December 25, 1964 in Woodland Hills, California. I was reading a tidbit on some restaurant history this week, and found out what a great prophet Briscoe Darling was. When he got run out of that restaurant for wanting to sit in the kitchen and watch them prepare the food, I thought that was just strange...particularly for a man that ate hogback and fish muddle, and didn't recognize steak. (what animal do you chomp that off of?). Actually, I have learned that that was a common paranoia back in the 50's, and Steak and Shake restaurants (big in the Midwest) designed their layout so that customers could the steakburgers being grilled. They also registered a slogan still seen in their outlets today In sight-It must be right referring to this visibility. So Briscoe would have loved Steak and Shake. Of course Morelli's let's you watch them pound the steak ala Morelli but Briscoe is not familiar with that meat. (what was that between the taters and the bread?) Loved the video Card Allen. How do you keep coming up with something unique each year??? --- I also saw a TAGS alum on Brady Bunch. Calvin Coolidge quote
Our local paper had a Calvin Coolidge quote. He said, Little progress can be made by merely attempting to repress what is evil. Our great hope lies in developing what is good. That Cal was quite a guy. I also got the Mayberryopoly game for Christmas. Looks like a good game for a long winter's night. I'll be gettin' a headache later on and I won't be any good to anybody.
