Dub Taylor was the one who said What we have here is failure to communicate in the Paul Newman movie Cool Hand Luke as I remember. I'm sure you'll get a lot of responses on this one, but I believe the actor who uttered that famous line was actually Strother Martin. Great, great movie. And one which has a couple of TAGS connections in George Kennedy and Rance Howard. Doug Johnson Wonder if all those hard-boiled eggs layed on Paul Newman's chest? I know pretzels are bad for that but what about eggs? _ You live life beyond your PC. Dub Taylor
Hello from Michigan! In reference to Dub Taylor and the quote: What we have here is a failure to communicate, I believe another great character actor said that line. His name is Strother Martin. He was great in the Wild Bunch and True Grit as well. Have a great Mayberry day! I love all the info that Tom and Joe have sent about character actors! Alumni
A friend of mine sent me a tribute to the old westerns. Among the many stars, costars and character actors famous for their western appearances were these TAGS alumni: Edgar Buchanan (Goldbrick Wheeler) Arthur Hunnicutt (Mr. Wakefield) Burt Mustin (Judd) Will Wright (Ben Weaver) John Dehner (Col. Harvey) Leo Gordon (brought Andy the shotgun) Robert Emhardt (Malcolm Tucker) Lee Van Cleef (Carnival rowdy who stole Aunt Bee's pocketbook) Dabbs Greer (As Mr. Simms, wanted to by Andy's house) Gail Davis (Beat Andy shooting skeet) dan ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Rance Howard
I looked at IMDb to find what character Rance Howard played in Cool Hand Luke. He was a sheriff in an uncredited role. Next time my husband watches the movie (his favorite), I'll keep an eye out for Sheriff Howard. Joe Hamilton was a small but vital part of Mayberry, and he deserves to have his own page! I don't think I would call him a background actor, since he had speaking parts and was often in the forefront of the scenes he was in. He was definitely *acting* and not just walking through a scene. I enjoyed reading the page. Thelma Lou (Janet) ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/

Re: WBMUTBB Digest, Vol 9, Issue 288
I have a question for you fellow NC residents. Who all is Andy endorsing in the upcoming elections? I know Bev Pardue and I believe I heard one or 2 more. I know whoever he is endorsing I will vote for REGARDLESS! Just curious if anyone has heard. Thanks Jed McCann of Clemmons, NC **New MapQuest Local shows what's happening at your destination.
