Tom Kessel Fan Club

2008-11-11 Thread Janet Anderson
As I have stated before, I absolutely love Tom Kessel's interesting
information he shares about various old character actors. I think that even
though we are all TAGS fans first, we are vintage television fans as a close
second.

I agree with Robert in that I thoroughly enjoy the information Tom provides on
character actors. I have long had an interest in the character actors of
classic TV and old movies and love to find out more about them. Often, Tom is
able to give us information that we could get NOWHERE ELSE -- exclusive
personal info. I hope he will continue to post and share his knowledge with us
of the many character actors on TAGS. I will not presume, of course, to demand
a change in the digest rules. I understand that Allan is in charge, and that
decision rests with him.

But you have my support, Tom.

- smells like chili an' crackers

2008-11-11 Thread Albert

I bought a second hand dresser from a thrift shop located in the outskirts of
Mt. Pilot.
After getting it home and wiping it down with Foster's Furniture Polish, I
couldn't help but
notice that the dresser smelled of chili an' crackers. Real spicy smelling and
I couldn't figure
out why. I upended the dresser to polish it some more and saw an old shipping
label from
Ft. Lauderdale on the bottom - 'ship to Mendlebright Rooming House, Mayberry NC'

Mystery solved.

Going back to Mayberry

2008-11-11 Thread dewey lamb

Hello digest devotees.I tried to send a message similar to this last night, but
it would not go through.Hope it doesn't appear later.Anyway, what I want
everyone to do is simple. If you could be beamed back to Mayberry for two
weeks, what would you like to do while there?I will get this thing off the
ground by telling you some things I would like to do while in Mayberry,in no
particular order.

*ride on patrol with Barney or Andy.Maybe I could blow the siren like Uncle
Ollie.NOT!
*try my luck at fishing for Old Sam as long as Howard Sprague wasn't frothing
up the water.
*be given the chance to say Geronimo and drink a root beer with the fellas at
the lodge.
*would like to see the expression on Clara's face as she showed me her numerous
flower pickle ribbons.
*be invited to dine at the Taylor residence and partake of one of Aunt Bee's
wholesome and delicious meals.Afterward,go sit on the front porch and peel an
apple in one continous piece.
*go to the Darling's shack and listen to some good old mountain music.Maybe
Charlene would favor me by singing There is a time. That particular tune tears
me up something fierce, but I'd work my way through it.Would not be able to
spend the night with them though, too much snoring and grunting going on.
*go to Wally's Garage and watch Goober at his finest hour, rebuilding a
carbureator in record time.
*accompany the choir at All Souls Church as they sing good old 14A.
*hang around Floyd's Barbershop for a spell. At this fine old institution, one
could catch up on news, gossip, not to forget grunting and snoozing.
*go to The Snappy Lunch and chomp on a chop.
*shoot slingshots with Opie, but Heaven forbid, not into a tree!
*watch Emmett coax an appliance into functioning properly again.

Well I think you have the picture.Be so kind as to share your time travel
wishes to Mayberry.Remember though, you would have to leave your cell
phone, pager,iPod,laptop and any other electronical marvel with 2008.

Oh yeah, one more thing. If I was feeling extra frisky, would like to run into the
fun girls,Daphne and Skippy!

Jackie Joseph

2008-11-11 Thread Mayor Pike
If anyone else has more info on Jackie Joseph, please share it.

Thelma Lou

(Janet)

I'd thought maybe our friend Tom Kessel may have had some interesting
information about Jackie but since I see he didn't I'll gladly share my
brief personal experience.

This year at Mayberry Days I met Jackie at the autograph session after
Saturday morning's parade. I was surprised and thankful to find the line at
her table quite short. Jackie was so gracious and warm. She was in no
hurry to end our conversation. She was truly grateful for all the fans that
stopped by to visit. We talked about her career, as has been mentioned, she
has quite a resume outside of her TAGS appearance. Then we talked about her
bringing Romeena to life. That's how she signed her photo, Love and
Hugs, Jackie Joseph, Romeena. She also drew a small heart on her photo.
When I look at it again it reminds me of her sweet and bubbly personality.

When I told her how much I enjoyed that episode and asked for her
recollections of playing alongside Howard Morris she got a big smile on her
face and her eyes had that familiar sparkle. She said they'd hit it off
immediately and they'd had so much fun chasing each other around Mrs.
Wiley's front yard. Then she said, wasn't I lucky? with such tenderness
and sincerity that I knew she really meant it.

I've been fortunate enough to meet a few TAGS alumni over the years. To a
person they've all been humble, genuine and truly gracious. My meeting
Jackie was no different. I'll always remember that conversation and how
special she made those few minutes.

Negative Comments

2008-11-11 Thread Robert James

I absolutely love this site. I am a disabled physician with a lot of time on my
hands and I get very depressed watching and reading the news all day with all
of the negative information floating around. I know that I can always go to
this board for uplifting messages and a short respite from our downer world.
For that reason I have vowed never to post anything negative here but I must
respond to the horrible comments about Tom Kessel. I love Tom and Ken's
contributions to this site and I'm sure that Ken doesn't share the same
feelings I just read about Tom. From all of the positive comments I have read
about Tom I don't think that anybody does. As has been mentioned in the past,
Tom is very ill and it's a real challenge for him to type out his interesting
contributions. I feel that he is owed an apology for the negative comments and
the character assassination. I know that we all have different ways of
expressing ourselves but in no way did Tom deserve what was written about him.
It's a free world and I will say no more but will reassess whether or not I
will continue to visit one of the few positive sites on the internet that
brightens my day. RMJ

Lessons

2008-11-11 Thread terry mayew
We can learn a lot from the Darlings' song titles: Keep your money in your
shoes and it won't get wet, Never hit your grandmaw with a great big
stick, and then there's Briscoe's comment, Got time to breathe, got time
for music. Bye, now, I got to go to the lockup!

Best color episodes

2008-11-11 Thread Brian Rose
In response to which color episodes are the best, I would have to say the ones
that are in Black and White.  No just kidding.  Now I don't want to seem
negative, but I'm not a fan of the ones with Warren.  The best way to watch the
color episodes is to goto the settings on your TV and the one that says color,
turn it all the way down so that the show appears to be in BW.  Makes it alot
more enjoyable.
