some what of a TAGS sighting

2009-05-25 Thread Bentle, Margaret
This past Thursday I watched on the local PBS channel Live from Lincoln
Center New York City Ballet's 'Romeo and Juliet' .

Didn't get to see the whole ballet my PBS station went out on my T.V.

The whole time I was watching the ballet I kept hearing Andy in my head
telling the story to Opie and Aunt Bee.

Saturday I watched 'A Feud is a Feud', just love the Mr. Carter and Mr.
Wakefield.

I finally got to watch a movie I received for Christmas this past
weekend.

The movie was James Cagney and Bette Davis in 'The Bride came C.O.D.'
very funny movie. I loved it when Bette Davis fell on a catus and

James Cagney had to pull the thorns out.

Now here is the stretch in TAGS sightings. The following people were in
'The Bride came C.O.D.'

Pop Tolliver was played by Harry Davenport, the whole time I was
watching the movie his voice was so familiar and I finally realized he
played

Dr. Meade from 'Gone with the Wind' (filmed on 40 acres lot).

Sheriff McGee was played by William Frawley, Fred Mertz from 'I Love
Lucy', TAGS filmed at DESILU studios.

Peewee Defoe was played by George Tobias, Abner Kravitz from
'Bewitched', Bernard Fox was on 'Bewitched' and TAGS.

Margaret
Floyd: 'I'm going to Nashville.'
(Margaret: I already live in Nashville.)

Re: Gomer on DVD

2009-05-25 Thread dixonhayes
***Sgt Hacker has not shown up yet.

There in the credits are names like Ruth Burch and Harvey Bullock.***

Sgt. Hacker makes his first appearance in season 2 of Gomer Pyle, the episode
where Lombardi loses his
wedding ring while he and Gomer are making bread on KP. Hacker ominously waves
his butcher knife at the
two, much like the bullies he played several times on TAGS.

I always thought it was a shame we never got to ask Ruth Burch before her
passing what she knew about
Mr. Schwump. Her name appears in the credits of several of the episodes he
appeared in, and since she was
the casting director she would have to know.

Re: Regarding Tom

2009-05-25 Thread Allan Newsome

Hey folks,

I know Ken sent a note a few days ago about Tom Kessel and the fact
that all parties have agreed that apologies have been received and
accepted. I wanted to add to that a welcome back to Tom and let all the
members here know what has been arranged for Tom in order that he might
best be able to share his knowledge of character actors...not only those
appearing on The Andy Griffith Show but in other classic film and
television as well.

A new blog called The Tom Kessel Blog has been created and will be the
home Tom's thoughts and memories in much better way than posting on the
Digest itself. The Digest is limited in who sees the messages, limits
members to posting about folks that are connected to The Andy Griffith
Show, and it is a one shot chance for folks to see and read Tom's memories.

The new blog has been set up so Tom can post messages that will be there
in a more permanent way and he'll have freedom to discuss folks that
aren't related to TAGS.

Tom will still be able to be part of the WBMUTBB Digest and can let
folks know when he has posted a new story that is Mayberry related on
the blog so we can go see it . I see this as a great way to allow him
and everyone else to benefit from Tom's character actor knowledge.

Currently, there is only a minimum of entries on his new blog but it is
expected to grow. There is a link on the blog to subscribe by e-mail
and be notified whenever a new entry is added.

I believe this is a wonderful solution to allow us all to benefit from
Tom's dept of knowledge of character actors while keeping the rules of
WBMUTBB intact regarding topics staying focused on Mayberry or Mayberry
related subjects.

Welcome back to Tom and I hope to see your posts on your site.

Follow-up on bare feet

2009-05-25 Thread Janet Anderson
Well, I did watch the three episodes that several of you referenced in Sunday's
digest as having characters in bare feet and thought I should do a follow-up
report on them.

Andy's Rich Girlfriend did show Andy, Peggy, Barney, and Thelma Lou wading in
the lake, and all were barefoot.

In Aunt Bee, the Warden, where Otis climbs out the window holding his shoes,
he is actually wearing socks, so no bare feet in that episode.

Hot Rod Otis is the episode where Andy tells the story to Otis in his cell.
However, his feet are not shown, so we don't know if he was actually barefoot
or if he was still in his socks.

Now, weren't you just dying to learn those trivial trivialities?

If anyone else has any bona fide bare feet sightings, I'd be interested in
knowing. (And the fact that I am interested in such information tells you how
far gone I am as a TAGS fan!)

Tom Kessel thinks Howard did have bare feet

2009-05-25 Thread tom . kssl
I am replying to Gritton Joe asking if Howard wore at any times just bare
feet.I could be wrong when I tell Mr Schwamps No One fan that I think he was in
bare feet when he bought new shorts and stood outside on the beach arms up high
as if to stretch only to look down in embarrassement towards the price tag
still stuck to his waistband.the camera pans to his bare feet all the way
down.I could be wrong Joe .no ones perfect but that's the image that sticks in
my mind when poor Howard feels embarrassed. Thanks Joe.Tom Kessel Col Tims

Bare feet revisited

2009-05-25 Thread Janet Anderson
When Howard was on the Island..are you sure he went bare foot. I
remember seeing his fishing is long pants with shoes and socks.

Joe, he was wearing shoes when he was fishing on the beach, but when he went
swimming, Howard was barefoot and wearing only his trunks.

When Andy went to visit Barney Judo teacher, Mr. Osimoto? I believe he
and the person sparring were in bare feet.

Now, that's another episode that I thought of but didn't check out beforehand.
I'll watch that one so I can get the official verification on the bare feet.
