Mr. Schwump

2009-10-20 Thread bcunnin107

Here's an idea - what if Mr. Schwump was on Town Council?

He could vote yes by sitting there and nodding his head. And if he didn't like
an issue, instead of saying NO he could just pinch the person making the
request. That would show them!!!

Stump with Scwump Vote Schwump for Mayberry Town Council

Does anyone else remember Andy playing anything but a guitar in any other
pisode except this one time?

Andy played his horn in the episode with the town Band. It looked like a
baritone or tuba or something..He also used a reed between his thumbs to
make noise but it was to talk to a bird.

Andy absently plays a few notes on Aunt Bee's piano in Barney's Physical when
he and Aunt Bee are trying to figure out a way to make Barney taller and
heavier, and of course he plays the tuba in the Mayberry town band. He also
plays a pair of maracas in the epilogue of A Trip to Mexico.

Andy's instruments and alumni sighting

2009-10-20 Thread jlj9675
I believe Andy was once seen carrying a horn and mentioned playing it in one
of those town band episodes. In real life, I think he played many
instruments. In listening to the old film Gaby recently, I thought I
heard James Best but did not see his face; IMBD lists him as a player in
that movie along with Leslie Caron. Who knew?

Aunt Bee's Blue Willow ware

2009-10-20 Thread Gary Coates
Does anyone know the specific pattern of her china? Our local antique
store had some cups and saucers, but they did not look exactly like
what was on the episode of Howard, the Comedian. i ran a google
search, and there were many variations on the blue willow theme. i
studied the episode mentioned above, but it was still hard to see the
cup up close, even on pause. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Andy playing instruments

2009-10-20 Thread Linn Family
I remember one other episode where Andy plays the piano, albeit briefly. It is
Barney's Physical from season 5. Barney finds out he doesn't measure up to
the new civil service requirements. Andy is sitting at the piano playing a few
notes and all of a sudden a light bulb seems to go off in his head. He and
Aunt Bee start thinking of ways to fatten Barney up and stretch him so's he'll
measure up. Another episode where Andy plays a different instrument is The
Sermon for Today. When Andy is rehearsing with the town band, he plays a
tuba. Hmmmmaybe if I put a bucket on my head I could think of some more.

Has anyone noticed?

2009-10-20 Thread Silvia Boosten
Hi TAGS Friends,

Last week I sent a post asking if folks noticed that Andy seems to be his
kind, patient, old self when Barney makes a guest appearance.

I didn't get a reply, but was wondering if you also noticed this?

My daughter and I like the color episodes best when Barney is in them,
although we also enjoyed Warren's episodes.

I think the black and white episodes depict the Mayberry that I love the most.

I've never heard of Mick Kieffer either, but he is from Minneapolis and
apparently has been active as a Barney tribute artist in that area. But
you'd think we would have at least heard some mention of him here.

Can any of the Digest folks from up in MN help us out?

David??

2009-10-20 Thread Bob James

I looked at this, and the description says that the car was redesigned for
Mick Kieffer, one of the nation's leading Barney Fife impersonators. I've
never heard of Mr. Kieffer. Anyone else familiar with him? I've never seen him
mentioned here on the digest.:

Thanks for the link. That is a beautiful machine! Wouldn't our very own
Mayberry Deputy look good riding around in that? Why that's probably pocket
change for the talented (and busy) David Browning. What's a Mick Kieffer
anyway? Bob

Just wondering

2009-10-20 Thread catchus
I was just wondering after watching the episode of andy griffith, when they
were looking for a new church organ. The scene I'm wondering about is just
after the episode starts, it shows andy, opie, and aunt bee getting ready for
church. After andy is adjusting his tie, opie helps and is adjusting it also.
The next scene shows opie hanging onto andy's right forearm, with both his arms
and hands.
There's no indication why this happens. I wonder if opie was about to possibly
fall and grabbed onto andys arm? It just struck me strange that this one scene
was in the episode. It gave no prior reason for this action. Just wondering.
Your friend Bruce Gilfillan catc...@windstream.net , thanks for your attention.

She says ... Andy Griffith will always be what he always was — funny

She says ...

In 1953, when George William was in law school at the University of Georgia, we
went to a football game one beautiful fall afternoon. I think that our Georgia
Bulldogs played Alabama’s Crimson Tide that day, but for the life of me I
couldn’t tell you who won.

I do remember as clear as can be the young man who was part of the halftime
show.
His name was Andy Griffith and he had me laughing so hard I got a stitch in my
side.

He talked about coming to a football game and his rendition in a totally
ridiculous country accent of “What it was was football” has become a classic
comedic monologue.
All we knew on that football Saturday was that he was one funny man.

From the very beginning when he talks about getting two hot dogs and a big
orange to his description of convicts coming onto the cow pasture blowing
whistles to pretty girls wearing short skirts dancing around and bunches of men
fighting and carrying on, we laughed.

His conclusion of what he had seen or as he put it, “He studied about it,” was
that it was some kind of a contest where they try to see which bunch can take
that funnyshaped pumpkin from one end of the cow pasture to the other without
getting knocked down or stepping in something.

Andy Griffith’s talent and humor has carried well through the years.
Remember how he told about the tale of Romeo and Juliet, which he said was more
like a story about two daddies who didn’t get along and his interpretation of
the ballet Swan Lake with his fresh look at what the dancers on stage are doing
and how they are dressed. That can bring a smile to the most committed of
ballet devotees.

For years, we have watched Griffith on television as Matlock and as Andy Taylor
of Mayberry.

His movies have not been as numerous as his appearances on TV and we looked
forward to his latest film “Play the Game.”
As a lonely widower, Griffith, with the encouragement and under the direct
supervision of his grandson, begins to search for someone to be his companion
and finds more than he expects as he uses his grandson’s techniques for
attracting the opposite sex.

But the shoe is on the other foot as the grandson begins to realize that he has
much to learn from his naive but open-hearted grandfather.

“Play the Game” might deal with some serious facts of life, but always with a
sense of humor that had the audience laughing out loud, a movie that has no
smutty language and leaves much to the imagination — which even at my age is
thankfully and comfortably vivid.
