Mayberry Cafe

2010-03-15 Thread ROBERT PHILLIPS

The Mayberry Cafe in Danvile, Ind is relatively famous; i've been there myself
a few times. It is a really nice restaurant and no doubt i'll stop in there
everytime when I go to Indiana but I don't recall anyone ever mentioning any
other Mayberry restaurants. Does anyone know that there is one in Tulsa,
Oklahoma? Now, i'm from

Indiana, been in Arizona for twenty-nine years, and I didn't know about the one
In Danville untill someone Tombstone, Az told me about it. Than long about nine
years ago on one of my cross country travels and at the time when I arrived at
Tulsa, I was mighty hungry so I pulled off the road and into the parking lot of
a restaurant. But I didn't eat at that resturant because just when I parked I
happened to look up and right across the street was a big sign on a building
that said Mayberry Cafe. So I naturally I drove across the street and ate at
the Mayberry Cafe. The one in Tulsa though had more of a truck stop atmasphere.

I want to go th Mayberry Days

Mayberry places

Ken, I liked the world wide list of places with Mayberry names so I think
you should keep it up! If there isn't a town named after Thelma Lou - there
ought to be!

Ken, You know I always loved your posts and hope you will continue. I've gotta
tell you though, your theory of Helen and the stockings caused a mental picture
I really didn't want to draw.

Just kidding, I had thought the same thing the last time I watched the show, I
just didn't want to verbalize it.

Keep coming up with those great ideas.

TAGS connections on That Girl

2010-03-15 Thread Dixonhayes
Right now I'm working my way through a couple of classic sitcoms: The Real
McCoys and That Girl. Both have TAGS connections but I'm especially
struck by the many on That Girl.

Earle Hagen composed the theme song.

Among the TAGS alumni spotted: Rance Howard (unaired pilot), Ronnie Schell,
Robert Emhardt, Richard X. Slattery, Jackie Joseph, Rob Reiner, Sterling
Holloway, Arlene Golonka, and Ken Lynch (as yet another cop, of course).

That Girl filmed in both LA and NY. And in the classic Anatomy of a
Blunder episode (the one about the disastrous picnic on the way to see Ann's
parents), the perfect spot where Ann lovingly begs to set up the
picnic...is none other than Franklin Canyon (or as we better know it, Myers
Lake).
It's very recognizable. At least one Real McCoys episode was also shot
there, as I've seen already.

Mayberry-themed restaurant

2010-03-15 Thread Paul Mulik
I've been to that eatery in Tulsa; as I recall the name of it was Mayberry's
Diner.  Mike Creech, if you're reading this, you'll probably remember that we
stopped and ate there that time we drove down to Paris, Texas to meet Denver
Pyle, about fifteen years ago.  For them that don't know, Denver (Briscoe
Darling) used to run an annual charity fishing tournament which he called
Uncle Jesse's Big Bass Classic or something like that.

Anyway, my impression was that somebody had opened a diner, and in an effort to
increase business, they later added Mayberry to the name of the place, and
named some of the dishes after characters from The Show.  They had a colorful
menu (like IHOP's or Denny's) with photos of the cast members, almost certainly
done without permission from Mayberry Enterprises, nor anybody else, for that
matter.  They gave Mike and me a couple of the menus as souvenirs; I'm sure I
still have mine around here someplace.  I believe the owners of this
establishment also had another diner in Bixby, OK.  I've no idea if either
place is still in business.
