Malcolm Tucker

2010-04-08 Thread (Ted) Theodoric of York
I think Mr. Tucker's car was at Wally's because it was towed there and
that's where it needed to be when Wally came in Monday morning (after
reading Moon Mullins of course!) Watch yer foot, I'm gonna rock
forward!

A tourist couple driving through La Jolla start arguing about how to
pronounce the name of the town. So they stop for lunch, and while
they're ordering, they ask the cashier, Can you tell us where we are?
How do you pronounce it? The employee replies, speaking slowly,
Bu-ger Kng.

Gomer the Mechanic

2010-04-08 Thread Ken Anderson
Gomer must have subscribed to the Learn a Month magazine that Barney took
are read about car repairs because he sure learned how to fix cars by the
time episode Gomer the Houseguest aired. Everyone in Mayberry came to him
for car repairs.

For a man who has to get up so early you sure do keep strange hours.

Re: Wally's Service on Sundays

2010-04-08 Thread Dixonhayes
I think it was always understood that Goober took Sundays off but would
come in for emergencies. An out of towner stranded under a deadline would
certainly qualify as an emergency. And remember, Goober was out on his boat
and there were no cell phones in 1962 or Sarah's Mayberry.

My memories of growing up in the south saw everything shut down on
Sundays--even supermarkets in some areas!--but service stations, they stayed
open.
I specifically remembered going to my grandmother's house and stopping on
the way for gas, Cokes and a few other things, and we usually stayed for a
little while because the Texaco on Green Valley Road or wherever else we
stopped, was the only thing open.

Then again, even now, there aren't too many places open for service on
Sundays, not where I live.
