correction to revious post

2011-07-04 Thread Victor Friskey
OH MY..!!!  My bucket had a hole in it and some of the thought waves escaped..I
have to correct myself concerning the four Mayberrians who appeared in award
winning movies...

Three Mayberrians appeared together in a movie in which Estelle Parsons won
Best Supporting Actress...The movie itself didn't win any awards

the fourth Mayberrian appeared in a movie that DID win five Oscars...

Sorry for the blunder...

Mayberrian sighting

2011-07-04 Thread Victor Friskey
I watched Titanic , the 1997 version with Leonardo Dicaprio and Kate Winslow
Sunday night. Because I was an OTR trucker for 20 years including the time this
movie came out and subsequently made it to TV..I was never able to see it
before now..Lo and Behold..in the scene where Jack is rescuing Rose from
jumping overboard the security guards show up and I couldn't believe who was
with them..None other than Mayberry's Malcolm Merriwether..as Col. Archibald
Gracie...  That got me to thinking and I put a two gallon galvanized bucket on
my head to helpHey, It works...The movie won 11 Oscars and I got to
thinking of all the movie stars who appeared on TAGS.

With the bucket still on my head I thought of two movie stars who won Movie
Oscars after appearing on TAGs...Can you name them ??

There were also four other actors on TAGS who appeared in Oscar winning
movies...Can you name them ??

After all that thinking I had to get the bucket off my head, so there might be
more to this than i know...

Jail keys

2011-07-04 Thread Janet Anderson
I noticed the other day that when Andy returned from Raleigh and had left
Barney in charge of the office, Barney had?arrested practically everybody in
town and when they went to let the folks out of the two cells, there were
miraculously, two key rings.? In every other episode I recall there was only
one key ring, locking people in by mistake or whatever.? Where did the extra
key ring come from?? Hmmm.? Mysteries of Mayberry!!?

Lucille, I had the same reaction the first time I noticed that. However, as I
looked for the keys in other episodes, I realized that there are other times
that two rings of keys are on the nail rather than the usual one. There
doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason for that that I can tell, but it does
make you wonder why.

Keys and Parades

2011-07-04 Thread Ken Anderson
Regarding jail keys: in the episode The Jinx there are two key rings hanging
on the wall by the cells. I happened to be watching that episode today and
spotted that.

Thanks Dewey, for your kind words regarding the Mayberry Parade. My wife and I
took the squad car to the July 4th parade at a neighboring town again
yesterday. We had just a great time. It was a large parade and they had four
announcer stands along the parade route. Every time we passed a stand the
announcer gave us a very nice welcome and each had something very special to
say about Mayberry. Each one thanked us for coming and invited us back next
year. The town was just ten miles from where I had taught so once again I saw
a lot of familiar faces and a number of former students .Getting hugs along a
parade route is so special. I had my picture taken with the city cop on duty
that day. I had gone up to him and asked him if he had a couple of extra
bullets I could borrow. I saw a Marine private in full uniform and I tried to
get him to have a picture with me as Gomer Pyle USMC, but he was too busy
hobnobbing with his friends. I thought that would have made a great picture.
I even arrested and cuffed a young boy and led him a short distance along the
parade route but then he managed to escape much to the delight of the parade
watchers. Pretended to step into some horse droppings and that got a lot of
laughs. All in all, it was a grand way to spend the birthday of this great
nation of ours. So much Americana in these small Midwestern towns.

My guess for the second TAGS actor to go on to win an Oscar is Ron Howard.

Oscar Winners

2011-07-04 Thread Keith Tacy
I know Jack Nicholson won at least 3 or 4 Oscars. I'm thinking George Kennedy
was also a winner.
And while not appearing on camera, Ron 'Opie' Howard won several Oscars as
director and producer.
