Re: WBMUTBB Digest, Vol 12, Issue 321
I went for lunch again today at my favorite hamburger place, Culver's. I have this hamburger eating compellsion. I had my book with me and I was wearing my Mayberry Union High letterman's jacket. I was there again when all the high school kids were there. I sure got the looks. I bet they thought I was some big dummy who was kept back in school for about 50 years. I overheard one girl saying she didn't think I could be any Einsteen if I was still in school. One guy asked me about my jacket as he had never heard of Mayberry. I don't know what they are teaching those kids in school nowdays. -- Ken Anderson The Mayberry Guru 2906 May Street Eau Claire, Wisconsin 54701 www.mayberryreflections.com ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Barney's appetite
It's always fun for a trained noticer to spot little continuity errors. I watched Barney's Physical just a couple nights ago on Netflix (I don't have cable, so I get my TAGS fix from DVDs of the first 4 seasons and from Netflix streaming) and never caught either of the main two goofs pointed out in this clip. (I guess I was just too busy following the plot). For those of you who like a mystery, I won't give away the main goof, but I will point out how clean Barney's plate is at the end of his meal. After eating so many corncobs, it's no wonder he ended up with such a case of the hiccups! (Anyone know of a cure for those things?) The Mayberry Merchant
I have often wondered if Bert Miller resided in Mayberry. When I first saw the episode I thought not because it had been such a long time since Andy, Barney, and Aunt Bea had seen him. Then as I saw the episode a few more times I decided he must have lived in Mayberry as it appeared he didn't have a car to travel from town to town and the walking got to him so much. He must have had some place to live as a home base to restock his suitcase when he ran out of items and I can't picture that being done out of a hotel room. So I like to think that Bert was indeed a true Mayberryite. Also Ben Weaver knew who he was too. Any thoughts?? -- Ken Anderson The Mayberry Guru 2906 May Street Eau Claire, Wisconsin 54701 www.mayberryreflections.com ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Cornbread
I noticed as the show went on that it became less & less southern. Did Howard Sprague & Mrs. Sprague sound southern? Did Emmitt & his wife, Martha? Went to Bing.com where I discovered that Aunt Bee's famous Nesselrode Pie was a NY specialty. Certainly I'd never heard of it. Her dinners became more all American (Pot roast, spaghetti) & less southern (white beans & rice, fried chicken with biscuits & honey) as the years went by. Even Andy's southern accent became less pronounced as time went by. No I don't recall cornbread being mentioned ever. CORNBREAD
In referrence to Paul's comments on never hearing cornbread on TAGS, I believe when Andy was delivering the foreclosure to the Scobeys', he told there daughter (with her front teeth missing) that her momma would have to soak her "cornbread " in buttermilk. Whew, I'm thinking I finally may have actually gotten an answer. YH. I just love this Mayberry stuff !!! Bob Castrucci Cincinnati's Biggest TAGS Fan.
