Green Stamps

2012-04-06 Thread Marie

Green Stamps are alive and well in cyberspace. Go to: http://greenpoints.com.
They have a ton of companies who participate in the program.

Here in sw Louisiana National Food Stores gave Green Stamps Winn Dixie had
Top Value stamps. We had a lot of items from the redemption stores like TV
trays, a clock, etc. Big Star had Quality stamps, too.

Good memories

Modern TV repeats a Barney Fife Staple Phrase

Modern TV repeats a Barney Fife staple phrase

There is a Top-rated show on television called The Big Bang Theory Setting
aside the fact that most shows today don't follow the morals of the Andy
Griffith Show, I like watching this one.

The Two main charactars are named after the great Producer with connections to
TAGS--Sheldon Leonard.

The Character Sheldon played by Emmy-winner Jim Parsons is kind of the wacky
Barney-Fife type.

You will remember that Several times Barney used the Phrase when doing
something silly What's a matter? Haven't you ever seen a man One of the
most memorable ocassions was when he took off the dress he was wearing to case
the bank as Mrs. McGruder's sister and said to Tom Jacobs 'What's a matter,
haven't you ever seen a man take off a dress before?

OK, so last night, Sheldon is performing several tasks so his friend Howard
will perfrom a favor involving his idol Steve Hawkings.

He walks int a rooom full of people in a french maid uniform (short dress etc.)
and says What's a matter, haven't you ever seen a man trying to impress Steve
Hawkings before?

Ir was classic Barney. I could see Barney in that maid's uniform LOL. it
couldn't be a coincidence..someone had to know

What a great throwback.

Alumni Sightings

2012-04-06 Thread DAVID QUINN

While watching TVLand this Good Friday afternoon, I spotted lots of TAGS alumni
on Gunsmoke. It seems that Festus has to travel to another town, and who do
you think he runs into there? First off there are a gang of 3 outlaws. The
leader of the gang was none other than our own Goober. Playing one of his
brothers was Dud Wash (Hoke Howell). Then Festus has to go see the town
doctor who was none other than Briscoe Darling. Finally when everyone went to
the saloon, the bartender was Dub Taylor, who played various parts on TAGS,
amoung them Emmitt's brother in law and also the preacher who married Dud and
Charlene. Festus finally (with the help of Briscoe) ran Goober and Dud out
of town. Orville Hendricks - Butter and Egg Man. Martha and me have only had
two fights in our 45 year marriage. The first one lasted 43 years, and the
second one aint over yet.

Joys of TAGS and Wodehouse

2012-04-06 Thread linjanecam
Hi Fellow Mayberrians,

If you're down at the Mayberry Public Library anytime soon, please ask the
librarian to direct you to the Ws. The W in particular is not Weaver,
although Mr. Weaver may have written some humdingers; rather, it's P.G.
Wodehouse, and he has definitely written some humdingers. For those of us who
love
the value based lessons, homespun goodness and joyful humor of Mayberry, I
can't recommend highly enough the warm, humorous and language rich works
of Mr. Wodehouse. There is a charm...a similar charm and a chuckle
(sometimes under the breath; sometimes right out loud..although in the
library, we
must be somewhat quiet) that one gains by watching TAGS and by reading
Wodehouse. Presently, this Mayberrian is immersed in the hijinks of Jeeves and

Wooster down at the Mayberry Public Library. Hope to see you in the Ws.

Linda
