song

2012-05-06 Thread jlj9675
Last night on Lawrence Welk, they sang the song that Andy, Helen, Howard and
Alice Harper sang up at her family's cabin when she came back to town;
something about being in love. Mayberry memories, they're everywhere!

Uh, hey Goob . . . . can ya filler up and check the water and oil just one last
time for me? You are going to be so missed. The Peanut Shack in the Arcade

Farewell my friend

2012-05-06 Thread Victor Friskey
So sad to find out that Goober Pyle our very own George Lindsay passed away
this morning(Sunday).
Of course we all knew he had been in failing health but no matter how prepared
a person tries to be
such a loss is tragic. He was such an amazing actor and a key to the success of
TAGS and Mayberry RFD.
May you remain in our hearts as one who brought so much joy and laughter into
our lives. We loved you
then and we love you nowR. I. P. my friend.

What Mayberry Means to Me by George Lindsey

2012-05-06 Thread Good, Don
What Maybe Means to Me by George Lindsey
(from Goober in a Nutshell BY Ken Beck and Jim Clark, 1995)

Mayberry is going to church on Sunday,
and then after church going to the drugstore for a cherry Coke.
It's sitting around the barber shop reading the sports page,
and getting a shoe shine,
and listening to Fred and Spooky tell their corny jokes.

It's goin' to the wrestlin' matches on Saturday night,
or maybe to the county line for a beer or two.
It's sitting in your car on Main Street watching the people pass,
when there's nothing else to do.

It's shelling corn and making quilts,
and sometimes there's a remnant sale.
It's getting a call in the middle of the night,
to get a good buddy out of jail.

It's book satchels and cloak rooms and notes from your mother
when you're late to school.
It's getting a basketball for Christmas, and practicing the Golden Rule.

It's getting one of those Parker pen and pencil sets
for high school graduation,
Or, if you're a girl, it's always Evening in Paris perfume.
It's being scared to ask that special girl to dance at the senior prom;
That happens every June.

Oh, it's trying to learn to smoke cigarettes and dip snuff and chew tobacco,
and you get so sick you think you're gonna die.
It's trying to get somebody to show you how to make a Windsor know,
in your daddy's brand new Sunday tie.

It's everything and everybody, and when you talk about it
you get that very, very special itch,
but the think that I like about Mayberry, most of all,
IT'S MADE OL' GOOBER RICH!

Note to George (Goober) Lindsey

2012-05-06 Thread L. Gillum
Goober, you were always the person I wanted as my nextdoor neighbor (except for
the times when you worked on five cars simultaneously in the driveway). I
don't know how to pay a higher compliment. Your departure has left another
profound loss in our community. Guess I'll have to wait awhile longer, and
maybe I can still be your nextdoor neighbor someday.

Long Live the Goob

2012-05-06 Thread Robert Hay
I had the extreme pleasure of having lunch with George, as did a handful of
other members, several years back. We were actually celebrating Doug Dillard's
birthday. Thanks to Jim Clark and our own Allan, we were treated to a surprise
lunch guest in the person of Goober himself. This was one of the most memorable
times of my life, and I have a great picture of us with George hanging on my
wall to remember that wonderful time. Goober, please tell Barn we all say Hey.

Therapy for Goober grief

2012-05-06 Thread jgrit1
I know we are all hurting hearing the news of everyone's friend George Lindsey.
For me the perfect therapy is watching the episode Goober takes a car
apart. I may also watch Mans best friend He Is so good with his supposed
talking dog.

Keep up the good work Ken. You are funny and also a good recycler it's been
years since I've heard some of those jokes. They are still funny

More sad news. Not as bad as the Lindsey news but Jim Nabors will miss this
years Indy 500 due to upcoming heart surgery. He is going to be videotaped in
advance singing his famous rendition of back home again in Indiana
