Andy Impersonator

2013-03-29 Thread Ken Anderson
I am reading a mystery Dying to Read and a man is trying to find his
ex-girlfriend by pretending to be an old uncle who has an inheritance for
her. In order to hire a private detective he disguises his voice to sound
like Andy Griffith from Mayberry. Do you know what that is? That is
falsifying. And you know why he is doing that? Because he is rotten. I
hope they catch him and inarculate him where he can be rehabilitated by
making baskets and such. Wonder if he knows that once that jail door
closes he will no longer have any peanut butter sandwiches.

Andy's Home

2013-03-29 Thread Larry Hamrick
Hey, Mayberry friends. All the talk about Andy's old home being demolished
brought this to my mind. I posted this before but it's been 3-4 yrs. ago so
maybe our newer members may enjoy reading this. We spent a week at NC's Outer
Banks on a summer vacation in 2009, and it's a great place to visit. The
beautiful waterfront, all the historical sights, and seeing 'The Lost Colony'
at the Waterside Theater (one time Andy actually played there), was well worth
the trip. While visiting the Old Fort Raleigh and museum, I walked up to some
of the caretakers there and casually asked if they knew where Andy lived. They
told me 'sure,we'll tell you, but remember that Andy is a very private man'. I
rode by his home (it's not visible from the highway), saw his driveway, fence
and gate. But not being an 'interloper' I wouldn't dare approach it. Just being
close to where he lives was enough for this Mayberry 'nut'. Anyway, it was a
great experience.

We're planning on being at 'Mayberry Comes to Westminster, SC' in April,
Mayberry Night in Troy,NC' in August, and 'Mayberry Days' in Mount Airy, NC
(the biggie!) in September. I just can't get enough of this Mayberry stuff!

Many thanks to Allan Newsome for the daily digest that keeps my 'Mayberry fix'
under control, and thanks to all the contributors that keep the digest so
interesting.

  Larry in Lincolnton

 Everything is OK in Mayberry...Floyd.

Just one more thing: Many thanks to the folks at the Surry Arts Council for
sending me an autographed photo of Betty Lynn. It will always have a prominent
place in my living room.

Barney Being Right and Manning Up

2013-03-29 Thread Good, Don
While we all love Barney, we do make a good bit of sport of him, and for good
reason. But I put my bucket on and got to thinking that Barney the Beast really
is worthy of our respect as a legitimate law officer. He was right on lots of
occasions. For example, he was right that the Mayberry Security Bank was ripe
for being robbed. He was right to ticket the governor's car. Barney also
manned up when it was called for. He got rid of those farmers selling produce
by the side of the road. He insisted on going with Andy to go after the escapee
who'd previously threatened him. What are some other examples of Barney being
right or manning up? I think ol' Thel really did get a prize. She's the cats,
and he is too.

Scrubs

2013-03-29 Thread Elizabeth Busby
Has anyone seen the episode of Scrubs where there is an constantly upbeat
psychologist at the hospital and at one point as she is walking through the
hospital she starts whistling the TAGS theme and the people she passes join
her? If I had that on my alarm clock, I would probably whistle it all day.

Apostrophes

2013-03-29 Thread Rebecca Spears
I couldn't agree with Ken more. I pass by a multi-million dollar home in
travels to Target and it has changed owners several times. The recent owner has
a sign outside with a picture of a video camera that says, your on camera .
I chuckle everytime I pass by it. I will never make enough money to live in a
home like that ( who would want to clean that thing) but I sure am glad I got
some smarts!

Wake Up Call and Apostrophes etc.

2013-03-29 Thread Sande Riggs
Hello All
About those pesky apostrophes, I really am concerned. I see them misused or
not used a lot. I spent a lot of time in school learning about these things.
And, I have studied this problem for awhile now. I think most of the problem
is that it is overlooked in lessons now or a typo. Sometimes even auto
corrector messes it up. And, sometimes it is just a mistake. As a college
instructor grading final projects, if there is a formal paper, I think this
needs to be attended to and done right.
As for a wake up call, I get up about 430 every morning. Sometimes, I take a
mid morning nap before my early afternoon nap, but I use The Andy Griffith Show
Theme as the alarm. While it wake you up, wide awake, I just feel good knowing
I will have a Mayberry Day.
The Bed Jacket episode is such a sweet episode. It really showed how Andy felt
about Aunt Bee. Nowadays we don't worry about gloves, hats, purses, nor bed
jackets. But, there was a time when they were considered. When I went to the
hospital to have wisdom teeth removed in 1976, Mama insisted I have a bed
jacket to wear in the hospital bed to greet visitors. This was not to be
confused with the robe I was to wear when I went to the restroom. Even as far
back as then, Mama had trouble finding one. But, she found it. I greeted my
visitors appropriately dressed. While my mama was in her last days, I made
sure, as visitors came to call she had her bed jacket on. I know it meant
something to her. That's what counted. I miss wearing white gloves or pearled
gloves to church on Sunday. I have carpal tunnel and sometimes my hands are
just cold. I wear fingerless gloves for that and knitted gloves to match my
coat when I can. I guess I am just old fashioned that way.
And seeing Aunt Bee bounce on that piano stool and rip the piano apart white
Toot toot tootsie is always a way to make my day. There's Marshall Dillion,
where's Chester?

Het Up

2013-03-29 Thread DAVID QUINN

Thursday on the Western Channel I was watching Gunsmoke. Matt was talking to
one of the storekeepers, and the storekeeper told Matt not to get all het up.
But since I am about half deaf, I always have the closed caption on, and the
closed captions printed out get all head
up...
Orville Hendricks - Mount Pilot Butter and Egg Man. In the twilight of my
long life, it has been many years since either Martha or myself got het up.
