A recent post about the backlots and such got me to remembering that for
years my just-before-sleep fantasy was to dream about someday having a
Mayberry theme park wherein the town would be re-created complete with
the fairgrounds and daily pickle-competitions, a working farm where
visitors could milk a cow, etc., a Morellis' open for dinner, where they
change the tablecloths every night, the drugstore soda fountain for
lunch, various shops with everyday items plus Mayberry memorabilia, a
working barber shop, etc. There would be no guest parking except at the
entrance and then you'd have to ride small buses to downtown and all
about so that the ambience of Mayberry would be restored. Some folks,
like me, would live there in actual homes on various streets and church
services would be held at All Souls on a regular basis with choir robes
in force. It would be a real town but open to a certain number of
visitors every day as long as they behaved well. Barney would have to be
on duty a great deal! I hadn't thought of that in several years but it
was an ardent mental project of mine for a long time. I sure wish some
gazillionaire would come along and do it! I'd move there in a minute if
it wasn't too far north (weather reasons). How about you all?
