I am reading a novel called "Deck the Hounds" by David Rosenfelt and a little boy asked his parents what a "town drunk" is? The parents ask him where he heard such a thing. He tells them that he heard it on a Mayberry TV show that has Opie in it. He said this guy Otis drinks all the time and he looks like he is going to fall down, so he wants to know why they call him the "town drunk".
