Who do you want to be in Mayberry?

2010-11-15 Thread Jimmy Phillips
Ken, I think Gomer would be my choice...simple minded and just as nice a
fellow as you’d ever want to meet.

Recent episode 106. Why would Andy have Parnell's bank book in his desk

2010-10-25 Thread Jimmy Phillips
I don't think Andy was ever implying that the bank book was Parnell
Rigsby's. I always took that scene as Andy looking at his own bank book
balance in order to pay Mr. Rigsby back the $50.00 without Opie being none
the wiser.

Andy pulls the bank book out of his desk drawer right after he has decided
not to tell Opie that Parnell Rigsby had placed an ad in the newspaper's
Lost Found Section:

Andy: Ain't that one of the saddest bank books you ever saw?

Barney: Whataya gonna do?

Andy: Well, I've got to give Mr. Rigsby back his money! I got no other
choice! If I tell Opie he'll give the money back, he's that kind of boy

Barney: You know, there's not many fathers that'd do what your doingtake
the money out of their own pocket.

So, I don't think the writers ever intended for us to think that the bank
book belonged to anyone else except Andy.

Mayberry, why do we love it?

2008-06-20 Thread Jimmy Phillips
Mayberry, why do we love it?
by Jimmy Phillips

For me it is because of the people. They were all friends and treated each
other with so much respect you would have thought they were all kin to one
another. Always looking out for each other, it never crossed their minds to
ever harm someone, even with words. They were a class act that has never been
duplicated and probably never will.

When I think of Mayberry I think of how a father teaches his young boy all of
the important lessons in life, honesty, integrity, loyalty, and respect. Paw,
that cage sure does look empty, yes son, but don't the trees look nice and
full.

I think of a gourmet chef that could cook anything and make your mouth water,
except pickles, those made your eyes water. I think of gas station attendant
who wanted to be doctor and ended up in the Marine Corps because of what his
daddy once told him. I think of his cousin who still reads comic books, can't
seem to ever find himself a girl but can take a car completely apart and
reassemble it in the courthouse in just a couple of hours.

I think of a deputy who's hilarious antics has won the heart of whole town, and
his best friend and cousin would always get him out of a jam and make him look
good without ever letting anyone else know about it(remember the avalanche in
the cave).

I think of the all beautiful mountain music played by the Darlin's(not that one
Pa, it makes me cry). I met Maggie Peterson last year at JCC in Smithfield, NC,
she just grabbed me hugged me like she'd known me all my life. After we got to
the car we realized that the picture did not turn out that well, so I went back
to ask her for another, she said; you just came back to get another hug, let me
see that camera! I ended up with three hugs that night, she was just a
delightful lady!

And who could forget that little man who was a little mean but made up for it
by bein' real healthy, and if he'd a sawed you comin he'd a rose both arms and
a woved at you. He was only in six episodes but everyone knows the little man
who did not like to be called a creechture. He never chews his cabbage twice
and you ain't heard last of Ernest T. Bass.

And then you have the sheriff who keeps everything in perspective with logic
and plain old common sense, his loyalty and friendship to everyone is
unparalleled, even to the town drunk Otis. Whom he instills a little pride in
whenever he gets the chance, I do to have a hobby, drinking. And old Rafe
Hollister, man could that cat sing, and if he liked you, he'd bring you a fresh
picked mess-of-string beans. And they all attended the All Souls Church on
Sunday's and spent the afternoon on the porch just being lazy, unless they down
to the drugstore to get a bottle of pop. Wait a minute, what's your hurry!
Yes, those were the days!

I guess most people when they die hope to move on to Heaven. I don't believe I
need any streets of gold, but I will take that new body. NO, I believe when I
die if I was asked where I want to go I would say Mayberry, but then again,
that is Heaven! At least for some of us.

Andy and Barney as cousins

2007-04-16 Thread Jimmy Phillips
I believe that in the very first episode Barney comes to deliver a message to
Andy who is working or washing his car. And Barney tells him how much he wants
to do a good job etc. and then tells him I want to thank you cousin Andy, and
Andy says, your welcome cousin Barney.

Maggie The Dilllards

2007-03-26 Thread Jimmy Phillips
I had the great experience this past weekend of getting to meet Maggie Peterson
and Rodney and Doug Dillard. They held a concert/comedy show in Smithfield NC.
They were very entertaining, and Rodney made up for all the talking he missed
out on while on TAGS. I had the opportunity to speak to them one on one and let
me tell you they are some of the nicest people I have ever met. It was almost
like getting together with family you haven't seen in a long time. What was
really refreshing to see was how they interacted with all of their fan base,
they were very patient with everyone. I don't believe that anyone that wanted
to see them was left out. And Maggie is so personable, and when I asked her to
take picture with me, she replied, only if you let me hug you ! The first
picture didn't turn out so well and she was gracious enough to offer another,
although I have admit, the hug she gave me was worth a second helping. She was
just great. And that Rodney is some story teller, he and Doug were so
incredible together. I laughed so hard at some of there experiences they
shared. It was a great night for all of us. A special thanks to my son James,
who gave me these tickets last Christmas, I love you son !

Hey to everybody,
I was watching the episode of when Barney tags the governors car the
other day, and no telling how many times I've seen it. I noticed something that
I have'nt noticed before. After the driver ( Ron Howards real father ) goes in
the building, a clerk wearing glasses and a visor comes out to look at the car,
it's Jethro from the Beverly Hillbilly's ! Am I slow or what ? Has anyone else
noticed that before.

Somebody is taking a history class, and grew a beard !!

2007-03-05 Thread Jimmy Phillips
I believe there is too much drama being imagined in the so-called gentle
sheriff versus the short-tempered sheriff episodes.
These had to change in order to keep things interesting. I can only imagine how
hard it was to keep coming up with a new script week after week year after
year, and to keep it interesting throughout. And to leave such a wonderful
legacy and impression all these years later. I believe each episode should be
enjoyed for just what it is. An escape, to a simpler time, when everyone had
something good to say or do for their neighbors. That's what I like to do any
way.
And a word about Don. To me it was like losing a part of my own family. I
still get a tear in my eye when I think of him being gone, but then I think
about all the joy he brought to millions of people while he was with us. And
how many more will experience that for years to come. He was a good ol'country
boy that made good. The thing is Don Knott's will still be entertaining the
world until the end of time.
Well my overheated truck is cooled off now and I see a horse coming so I
better give him the right-of-way, as I don't want that old sheriff coming after
me.

Fw: A new question about Andy.

2007-02-13 Thread Jimmy Phillips

I posted this question yesterday and I had two responses but no one was even
close. I hope they have not gave up.!

Here's a hint since no one has answered correctly yet.

Andy said this was a quote from Julius Ceaser to Cleopatra.
Does anyone know what this one means ?

Ars mutatis Longa vito mutandus brevas .

This one is a quote from a long time back and I have kept in my back pocket
as neutralizer over the years whenever I get in the doghouse. And I can say
that in my case it has worked 100% of the time whenever I have upset my wife.
She will smile or laugh everytime, as a matter of fact I usually will sign
greeting cards or send flowers with this quote.
   Thanks, Jimmy
