RE: Mayberry Days

2012-10-02 Thread Sue Doughty
I agree with Debbiethe memorial Service yesterday morning was awesome.
What a great surprise to hear Ron Howard's tribute to Andy.

I too will cherish The Hometown Tribute to Andy Griffith program they handed
out.

The entire weekend was wonderfuleven sitting in the rain for the parade. I
attended the Trivia contests for the first time this year. I did real well on
the Children's contest but only got two correct in the Adult's session and one
of them was the easy question they threw in so everyone could say they got one
right!! I thought I was a good trained noticer until this contest. I need to
do much more trained noticing. :=)

We attended the Tied Up in Knotts this yearit was a great show.

Colonel Tim's was also great (as usual)!

The tribute artists were at their best

I had a Most Unforgettable Experience today. My wife came into the house
this afternoon and said there was a prowler around the back of the house.
So I called the police and they sent an officer. He was unarmed as was I.
So the two of us searched around the back of the neighbor's We were closing
in on him when he was able to slip between two houses and he made his escape.
The officer said I should call if he returns. I asked if it would be OK
for me to try to set some kind of trap for him if it wouldn't hurt him, and
I was given the OK on that. My wife just read this post and she said I
left out a few important details. Ok, so the perp was a stray cat, and so
what if the officer was a humane officer, and so what if we were unarmed.
It could have been dangerous. The cat did hiss at us a couple of times so
the officer went back to his officer and said he was going to get Annette.
I assumed Annette was another officer, but as it turned out, he came back
with a net. I do have a large live trap that I use for rabbits so I am
going to set that and see if we can catch the stray. But all in all, it
was a most unforgettable experience for me. After all I am 65 years old.

RE: Nice Dress Nellie

2010-02-01 Thread Sue Doughty

Nice Dress Nellie appears in many episodes, sometimes as far away as across
the street (as in Ernest T. Joins The Army). I can't recall which episode,
(maybe season Two?) but Andy passes her on the street and says Hi Nellie.
Since she is always wearing a nice dress someone came up with the
nickname (I reckon it was a trained noticer). Don't know if it was one of
the members here, but it's been in use as long as I can remember. Another
interesting tidbit - She's seen leaving the church arm in arm with Tom
Jacobs in The Sermon For Today but lives in the adjacent house to Tom in
A Deal Is A Deal. Like it's been mentioned before, almost everyone in
Mayberry seemed to be single!

Curt

Birmingham AL

Hey Curt,

I believe Nellie got her name here on wbmutbb because of the episode where Andy
goes out of town for the day and Barney arrests everyone in Mayberry. When
Andy lets them out of the cells and she walks by him, he says Nice dress
Nellie. I can't remember if Paul Mulik or Joe Gritton came up with the name
for her.

Also, I was watching the Biography channel on the January 27th and one of the
Don/Andy/Mayberry Retrospect shows they showed a piece of the pilot from the
Danny Thomas show. I believe I saw Nice Dress Nellie and Tom Jacobs on the
sidewalk outside where Andy was giving Danny the ticket.

Grace Moravian Church could lead to Griffith's future interment in God's

RE: MAYBERRY GOES BANKRUPT - Nice Dress Nellie

2009-02-12 Thread Sue Doughty
While I was watching Mayberry Goes Bankrupt on TVLand last night I
noticed something. In the final scene, a convertable pulls up to
Frank Meyer's house while all the Mayberry men are standing outside.
In the convertable are a husband and wife who are passing through
Mayberry. The IMDB credits list Hal Torey as the man who is not
named. I had a couple of good looks at the wife. Even though she is
wearing a head scarf, I could swear that the wife is Nice Dress
Nelly. Could some of you trained observers check your DVD'S and see
if you think the wife is Nelly or not.

That is, indeed, Nice Dress Nellie in the car. Has anyone ever found
out what her real name is yet?

I have to share this information.

I was at the Outer Banks this past weekend staying with friends. My
friends told me that after we left on Sunday, their neighbor came home
with a yellow lab puppy - seven weeks old. She said that it was given
to Andy Griffith for Christmas by his family. But after a week, due to
his failing health, he said that he just could not handle a new puppy,
so they gave it to her. She works in Manteo.

I hope Andy is doing okI hate to hear that he is in failing health.

Say, I was curious about something. How many folks here are lucky
enough to still have TAGS airing on one of their local stations? I'm
in Greensboro, NC, and our CBS affiliate, WFMY Channel 2, shows an
episode at 5:30 PM, Monday-Friday, and at 11:30 PM on Sunday night
(I'm proud to say that the weekday 5:30 PM slot, as far as I can
recall, has pretty much been the regular time slot for the show ever
since I was a little boy, over thirty years). Currently, TAGS is the
only classic sit com (meaning black and white) being shown in this
area on a local station, and just one of a handful of sit coms even
airing on the CBS, ABC or NBC afflilates.

Dan Johnson

Dan,

I live in High Point, NC, and also enjoy the 5:30 PM episode of Andy
Griffith each weekday (even though I have the entire series on DVD). My
husband knows that at 5:30 each weekday that the TV is going to be on
WFMY 2 for TAGS!! He doesn't say so, but I think he enjoys it too!!

recall Andy driving anything but the squad car and Aunt Bee's car was
a convertable and Malcolm was riding a bicycle. I can't figure what
car Andy was getting into when Malcolm covered him with the lap robe
after he go into the car. Malcolm also handed Andy his hat before he
got in the car. Andy was in complete uniform, which is unusual. He
had tie and hat, after Malcolm gave it to him. Just wondering what
car that was?

The car belonged to one of Aunt Bee's friends -- can't remember the name
-- was it Emma Brand? It was at their house while the friend was out of
town.

Noticed yesterday that at the very end of the episode of Malcolm

missed something. I was thinking maybe they had been to church, but
that didn't make sense either because he had on his uniform and we all
know Andy didn't wear that to church.

Anyone know why he was wearing a tie?

It's preying on my mind.

Malcolm was taking care of Andy and Opie while Aunt Bee was gone and
wanted them to dress up all the time - like proper bobby snazzlers.
Malcolm laid out Andy's clothes, which included his tie and his
Sheriff's cap. You see Andy with the tie and cap when he is in the back
seat of the car that Malcolm is going to drive him to work in.

So then my thought went to other episodes when Barney was right about
something. There must have been others. Does anyone know?

Kind behind the eyes

Here are the times I can think of that Barney was right..

In The Horse Trader, Barney was right when he told Andy that it was
wrong to make up stories about the cannon just to sell it. Andy
listened and then practiced The Golden Rule.

In Barney and the Governor, Barney was right for 'tagging' the
governor's car. I'm no good. You're good, you're good!

In The Bank Job, Barney is right when he says that the bank is an easy
target. He gets into trouble proving it, but he is correct.

In The Shoplifters, Barney is correct in saying that the little old
lady was the shoplifter, even though she only had a Bible in her bag.
Ben didn't believe him until they got outside.

Maybe we can all put together a list of them just for fun.

Barney's Bullet

2007-05-19 Thread Sue Doughty
Were there any episodes where Barney had more than one bullet in his
gun?

judy

There was one episode where Andy told Barney to load 'em up, but I
don't remember which one. I think it might have been the one where
Barn drove the RV through town so they could catch the crooks. Can
any of you trained noticers remember?

I just watched an episode last night where Andy told Barney to load 'em
up -- it was the episode where Barney caught the escaped prisoner
when he was trying to give him a ticket for littering. I'll get you
for this Deputy. They loaded up when they were getting ready to go
look for him and ended up in the barn where Barney caught him again
and said I swallowed by gum.

RE: Floyd Lawson's family

2007-04-29 Thread Sue Doughty
As a new subscriber to WBMUTBB I have become more
aware of trivia while watching the Griffith Show. Oh
The Jinx, Henry Bennett was accused of bringing bad
luck. Floyd claimed that his son, Norman, missed a fly
ball in center field after the ball was touched by
Henry Bennett on a previous play. Never saw Norman on
a program.

Didn't Floyd's son play his saxophone for the shoe salesman in Those
Gossipin' Men? I can't remember if his name was Norman in that
episode.

Opie's mom?

I know I am probably fishing in the dark here but I have a question.
There
is a lady who is a regular cameo who has never had a speaking part.
She
is always either in a crowd scene, at a function (such as the Garden
Club), and has probably been in as many episodes as Mr.Schump. The
only
time I have ever heard her called anything is once Andy called her
Hazel
(not the piano player). She is very unique looking and I am sure
others
have recognized her so if anyone knows who I mean please let me know.
Liz aint you got a jackRoberts

I believe you're talking about the same woman I asked about a couple of
years ago and never got an answer. She was in quite a few of the
episodes. I've always wondered who she wasone episode I remember
her in is in a color one where they are all in church and Aunt Bee turns
around and this woman indicates that she likes her hat with a nod and a
point of the hand.

I hope someone can answer this question!!! She had dark hair and looked
to be in her 40's. I remember her also in the episode where Barney gets
all the women in Mayberry to meet at Andy's house for him to look them
over -- she sat on the coffee table, I believe.

Come on Paul or Joe.tell us you know who we're talking about.
