Burns' comedy partner, Avery Schreiber, was a series regular on 'My Mother the Car', starring Jerry Van Dyke. Van Dyke claims he was considered for replacing Don Knotts; His manager, Richard O. Linke says not. After 'The Legend of Barney Fife', both Burns' and Knotts' voices were heard in an episode of the Hanna-Barbera animated series 'Wait Till Your Father Gets Home' in 1974, written by Jim Fritzell and Everett Greebaum.
