The use of  yes sir, & yes mam seems most prevelant in the south. It was one of 
the things I noticed back in the 50s when I attended a Christian College in 
Dayton Tenn. I think it is time for a revival of good manners being taught in 
the home. I just received a Thankyou e-mail from my turning 8, granddaughter 
for a birthday gift. I'm pleased that the girls are being taught good manners 
by my daughter. 
Children learn by example, & in turn will teach their children. One of the 
things I have always enjoyed about TAGS was that Opie wasn't a smart mouthed 
kid like some the characters on later shows, a type of so called humor I never 
found funny.
