The use of yes sir, & yes mam seems most prevelant in the south. It was one of the things I noticed back in the 50s when I attended a Christian College in Dayton Tenn. I think it is time for a revival of good manners being taught in the home. I just received a Thankyou e-mail from my turning 8, granddaughter for a birthday gift. I'm pleased that the girls are being taught good manners by my daughter. Children learn by example, & in turn will teach their children. One of the things I have always enjoyed about TAGS was that Opie wasn't a smart mouthed kid like some the characters on later shows, a type of so called humor I never found funny.
