In response to David Quinn's question/challenge of when TAGS characters told an outright lie---the one that comes to mind is Andy calling his insufferable Uncle Ollie and tells him escaped convicts have been spotted on the outskirts of Mayberry. This was right after Andy found out the convicts had been captured. As hard as it is to imaging Andy lying, I sure could understand it in this case.
