The other night, I was watching "The Twilight Zone" episode titled "Black Leather Jackets" about an impending alien invasion. I thought the neighbor looked familiar; it took a little while before I realized it was none other than Denver Pyle (Briscoe Darling). Without any kind of an accent, and dressed in nice clothes, it took me awhile to be sure it was really him. Then, while watching a 1958 episode of "Gunsmoke", I thought the forlorn wife of a rancher looked familiar, but with her accent and lack of make-up I wasn't sure - then I looked it up and sure enough, it was Hope Summers (Clara Edwards). Both of them were far-removed from their Mayberry roles, showing how versatile and talented they were. Well, there has a been a bonanza of alumni sightings lately. Today I was watching an old Nancy Reagan movie I had on the DVR; lo and behold in the opening scene was our woman speeder driving a jeep! Later on there was a very old sweet lady that I felt had been in Mayberry but couldn't quite place her. The film was one of those post-WWII tales of the mental strife of our vets; so sad indeed.
