I recall the episode when Ernest T. Bass claimed he "chucked a full-growed
jack-ass over his shoulder and toted him six miles to the doctor".  And of
course there was the "Opie, the Birdman" episode.

With regard to animals in Mayberry ... I seem to remember the trees sounding 
full, plus the Lake Loon - so birds.  Does Fried Chicken count?
