I have heard the phrase "give me a little sugar" all my life, so I do not believe it is something the writers of Mayberry made up. I suspect it may be a southern thing.

Got another one for discussion. A few times in the early episodes, Andy uses a phrase "give her a little sugar", meaning giving someone a kiss. Is this a southern expression? (never have heard it up here in the Great White North). Or is it something Andy or the writers made up, like "a bird in this world"? Just wondering.
