Politics in Mayberry
During the next few months I think we should all make a conscious decision to watch the episodes where politics is the them. Such as when Miss Ellie ran for town council, when Aunt Bee ran for town council, and when Sam Jones ran for town council. I choose not to run. Do you know who said that? I did, when our track coach asked me to try out for the team back in high school. Kenneth G. Politics in Mayberry
Speaking of politics in Mayberry brings to mind some questions I have always wondered about. 1. If Andy and Barney are county employees why do they have to submit all reports etc to the town Mayor? 2. If Barney is a county employee why does Andy have to take his resignation to the town council? 3. Why does Mayor Stoner get to decide if the town band can go to Raleigh? Shouldn't the council vote on that? 4. How can Sam Jones be head of the town council when he lives outside the city limits? 5. How do Mayors Stoner and Pike get by with all those impromptu meetings without following open meeting rules? 6. Why do Andy and Barney get to vote on council matters, like selling the canyon? Doubt if they are actual members of the council. 7. If Andy is Sheriff of the county of Mayberry why does he do all his sheriffing in and around Mayberry only? Aren't there other towns in the County of Mayberry? 8. When Barney decided to run for Sheriff, he hadn't filed papers yet. If he still had time to file his papers, why couldn't Andy have time to file his? Now I am not trying to be obtuse, but these are just some things I think about when I am bagging groceries. It helps pass the time. If anyone has some answers I would love to hear them cause these things have been praying on my mind. One thing I have learned in my life is that the longer I live the older I get.
