Do you think it will add to the site or annoy people? Any opinions are welcome. Not only are splash pages annoying after the first or second time one visits a site, they're a big no-no for SEO. No rhyme intended. The very first page a visitor should view should be your home page. It's the key page on any site and the one that should be the most SEO friendly. Many times a splash page uses tons of flash - maybe no text at all. Well, gee - at last look - the se's couldn't read flash at all or so very little that it's minuscule. So, would the client rather have a site that's fancy schmancy that will only wear off at a novelty or do they want a site that is useable and found by the bots? :: Deb :: http://www.puterbug.com :: Professional Web Design, SEO :: VPS Web Hosting Services :: Offlist eMail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] The WDVL Discussion List from WDVL.COM To Join wdvltalk, Send An Email To: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] or use the web interface http://e-newsletters.internet.com/discussionlists.html/ Send Your Posts To: wdvltalk@lists.wdvl.com To change subscription settings, add a password or view the web interface: http://intm-dl.sparklist.com/read/?forum=wdvltalk http://www.wdvl.com ___ You are currently subscribed to wdvltalk as: archive@jab.org To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe via postal mail, please contact us at: Jupitermedia Corp. Re: [wdvltalk] Splash page?
You are right Deb. The client is fine with skipping a splash page altogether. Thanks. Re: [wdvltalk] Splash page?
One recent annoyance on some fashion industry sites has been the need for visitors to upgrade the plug-ins that they need to view these sites. For some reason, the fashion industry likes splash pages for their main navigation, without any alternative, and also likes re-developing them regularly, so visitors now need at least Flash 7 installed to view them. They are fond of pop-ups, too. Fortunately, they tend to inflict this junk only on a limited number of subscribers, but it is sad that their design skills don't allow them to do something better. Riva - Seldom do I find a splash page useful, and in fact, I often skip them if I can (if that option is given). My thoughts are if there is something that needs to be displayed that is important, then it should be on the home page with a link to it so that I can choose to view it. Just my two cents! RE: [wdvltalk] Splash page?
I would agree with Todd. The only exception I would make is if the company is a design house and they are showing off some of their techniques but even then that stuff should be under a portfolio or something like that. I typically skip splash pages. If you do keep it be sure to include the link as Todd mentioned.
