Re: WOWODC 2011 coming to your city

2010-09-15 Thread Pascal Robert
BTW, I will open the WOWODC survey this week-end, so send your suggestions
before Friday if possible. Lot of suggestions for place in the USA and Canada,
but only two places in Europe.

What? Already? That French Canadian is really crazy, eh?

Ok, a lof of people want to have WOWODC in their city. That's fine, but I
won't organize WOWODC in another city if I don't have local help. Why? Well,
I don't want a bad surprise like last year (the Whitcomb...). So if you want
WOWODC in your city, you will have to be my local contact, and it will be
your job to find a suitable hotel or other place to hold the event, to find a
local A/V provider and to ask for prices.

Why I'm asking that now? Because I want to make a survey in two or three
weeks to ask people when they can come to WOWODC so that we have a max of
people. The survey will ask questions like this :

If WOWODC 2011 is set in Montreal, what is the best period for you to come
 to WOWODC?

If WOWODC 2011 is set in San Francisco, what is the best period for you to
 come to WOWODC?

What is the maximum you are willing to pay for the conference ticket?

What is the maximum you are willing to pay for your hotel guest room?

So if you want to have WOWODC in your city, please contact me before
September 18th. You don't need to find an hotel or anything else for now,
just tell me if you can help out and which city you are leaving in.

I don't think we will ever WOWODC near WWDC. Apple give the WWDC dates
later each year, last year we would have only 6 weeks to organize
WOWODC, that's not enough. And if WOWODC is still 3 days, imagine 3 days
of WOWODC + 5 days of WWDC. Part of the reason WOWODC went really well
this year is because we had more time to organize it and presenters had
 more time to prepare.

The thing I love about it being in SF (and timed with WWDC) is that I
can more easily justify it with my company. :)

UHF was such a great movie! Lol...the good ol' days when you had to adjust the
frequency of every preset channel button. Now we have Hulu.

Back to WOWODC, I was thinking of SF for the exact same reason of having more
Apple folks there. I'm in Sacramento, but SF is only a little over an hour
drive away. I'd definitely be willing to help with planning if we had it in SF.
Either way, I'll be there next year no matter where the location is.
