[libreoffice-website] changes to Challenge website

2011-02-25 Thread Florian Effenberger

Hello,

can we somehow circulate this to the translators of the page? I made
some changes, they are

- changed website title to LibreOffice Fundraising Challenge
- changed website slogan to Donate for the Foundation
- changed starting page description meta tag to Join the Fundraising
Challenge of The Document Foundation.

- replaced the Press Release on the page with today's one
- removed the first three paragraphs from the Donate page and changed
the next sentence to All donations will be fed directly into the future
foundation's budget to cover operating expenses.
- replaced the Why page with the FAQ contents of
http://blog.documentfoundation.org/2011/02/23/you-are-our-rockstars/;
changed What are the next steps? a bit; changed the page title to Why?

- changed the text of the Welcome page

Would be great if we could have the translations reflect this. :-)

Thanks a lot!

[libreoffice-website] Thousands of donors contribute €50,000 in just eight days to The Document Foundation

2011-02-25 Thread Florian Effenberger
Thousands of donors contribute €50,000 in just eight days to The
Document Foundation

LibreOffice Community accomplishes next major milestone
Ongoing donations to support marketing, infrastructure and development

The Community around LibreOffice, the free personal productivity suite,
has accomplished the next major milestone in establishing The Document
Foundation as a legal entity. In just eight days, some 2,000 donors from
all over the world contributed €50,000 for the capital stock necessary
to set-up the legal entity in Germany.

We still can't believe it, says Florian Effenberger, Steering
Committee member. It happened in such a short period of time and was
beyond our wildest expectations. You all really rock! On behalf of the
Community, the Steering Committee would like to thank all the donors for
their generous support.

The €50,000 collected will form the Foundation's paid-up capital,
ensuring a permanent future for the organization after the legal
paperwork is complete, based in Germany. The capital will be frozen
assets for the Foundation: the funds cannot be spent, and we will be
able to avail just the annual interest. All money donated from now on
will actually bankroll our ongoing running costs for things such as
marketing, hardware, infrastructure, attending trade shows, initial
financing of merchandising material and, of course, developing new and
exciting ideas.

So we still need your support: Every donation helps to pay for our
future operational running, Effenberger adds.

Details on how to donate to The Document Foundation and how the money
will be spent are available at http://challenge.documentfoundation.org

Information about LibreOffice can be found at http://www.libreoffice.org
The home of The Document Foundation is at http://www.documentfoundation.org

About The Document Foundation

The Document Foundation has the mission of facilitating the evolution of
the LibreOffice community into a new, open, independent, and
meritocratic organization over the next few months. An independent
Foundation is a better reflection of the values of our contributors,
users and supporters, and will enable a more effective, efficient and
transparent community. TDF will protect past investments by building on
the achievements of the first decade, will encourage wide participation
within the community, and will co-ordinate activity across the community.

two more changes:

right now, the only thing that list admins can do is to moderate an

[libreoffice-website] TDF in good shape?

2011-02-25 Thread Twayne
I was recently doing some research and came across a few highly rated links
on Google that were very negative about the Document Foundation; it was an
old ZDNet article abt 5 years old. I don't have a URL handy but could
retrieve it if I needed to and anyone wanted to see it.

At any rate; is that situation still current? Or has it been fixed?
The articles cited everything from internal fighting to mistakes/errors
they made, etc. and predicted the demise of TDF.
I was relieved when I saw how old the articles were but I never found
anything to refute them with any more current dates. Off and on there are
some citations still pretty negative, but never a positive comment (that I
could uncover anyway).

Hello,

can we somehow circulate this to the translators of the page? I made
some changes, they are

- changed website title to LibreOffice Fundraising Challenge
- changed website slogan to Donate for the Foundation
- changed starting page description meta tag to Join the Fundraising
Challenge of The Document Foundation.

- replaced the Press Release on the page with today's one
- removed the first three paragraphs from the Donate page and changed
the next sentence to All donations will be fed directly into the
future foundation's budget to cover operating expenses.
- replaced the Why page with the FAQ contents of
http://blog.documentfoundation.org/2011/02/23/you-are-our-rockstars/;
changed What are the next steps? a bit; changed the page title to
Why?

- changed the text of the Welcome page

Would be great if we could have the translations reflect this. :-)

Thanks a lot!

Re: [libreoffice-website] QA and TCM

2011-02-25 Thread Sophie Gautier

Hi all,

I top post for an update on the topic.
So thanks to Christoph I'm now in contact with Matt Evans who is
director of QA at Mozilla.
He kindly offers to answer any questions we could have on Litmus or any
other things they do at Mozilla QA. He also informs me that the new tool
which will replace Litmus is at its beginning stage and won't be ready
before some time. It will be announced to the public in a couple of weeks.
I'll propose him that we follow and help the development by providing
feedback and inputs on the features, so if you are interested by that
just tell me I'll add you in the loop. I find it important for us that
we are not alone to support the tools we use.

So I think we should go on with Litmus *now*. It seems that the error
has vanished (good news :) so we may extend the tests and the languages
and see how it runs for us?

David are we ready to change from staging to [extensive ;)] general use?
Rimas have you any concerns about this?
Others are you ready to go?

Thanks in advance
Kind regards
Sophie

One thing to note though: Mozilla's guys told me
Litmus is no longer being developed (except bugfixes). They're
developing a replacement for it at the moment, so Litmus is
apparently pretty much in a dead-end. We'd have to maintain it
ourselves.

What about this replacement? Can we take a look at this? Or is this
new TCM-Software specially for Mozilla-Software?

As far as I remember, it's being developed, and is not yet ready for
production use. But here are the links:
Backend: https://github.com/mozilla/tcmplatform
Frontend: https://github.com/mozilla/tcm

First of all, what still needs to be done is undef errors fixed. :)

+1
With an error in one of Litmus Pages it is hard to say something about
quality or useability.

I was actually able to run the tests until somebody set up the test runs :)

I have a few more ideas for afterwards though:
1) the build id field and checks should be adapted for our use. It
looks like Jean-Baptiste has already come up with a workaround for
this, but it should be fixed instead of worked around.
2) testcase localization implemented correctly. I absolutely dislike
the way it's done now. To the extent that I want to revoke admin
rights from everyone but me. :)
3) platform/language autodetection (it looks like the criteria
fields are there, but they aren't being used)
...

As far as I see the software at it's stand, i found i useable. Pretty
much easier as typing everything in a wiki-site. And it looks better
then the old TCM-Tool, It feels better.

It certainly does.

I don't know if we need an infrastructure fist? This few people,
national and international may could do communication via cc-mailings.
I guess, if we get a testcasetool - useable by many people - then we
can build lists an so on...

The infrastructure list was just an idea. Again, I just think that what
we're discussing here isn't of interest to most of the guys on the
websites list.

The amazing thing with the Litmus site is, that it is possible to
login, select my Operating System, Software Version, Language and then
I can start with testing, if it fail or run, i check a marker - ready.
Thats simple.

:)

Don't forget, we need a place to store demofiles so our testcases can
reference to that. (e.g. How could a Linux Tester get some M$-Files.
It's better to show a PNG-File how one document should look like)

Good point. I think the example files could be stored in our wiki, or
even simply zipped and uploaded to the litmus directory. They aren't
likely to change too often, after all... Litmus doesn't have that
functionality built in, but this problem is easy to solve, and there's a
bunch of ways to solve it.

Rimas
