[libreoffice-website] Donation site list of translations

2012-09-28 Thread Marc Paré
I was just wondering about the donation site and the list of
translations. Once we get a large number of languages, I don't know if
the look of a large list will give the page a good look (I am trying
not to use 'professional look'). But when people drop by the page, and
if there is a long list, it may not look too inviting.

As it stands now, there are just 5 translations, and there are already
spacing problems (or at least that's the impression one gets); the
languages are not in any order -- alphabetical should be the default,
or, is there an option for a drop-down button instead?

Do we really need the link Start on the page? It doesn't seem to be of
any use. Well, unless you want to go back to the start page after going
to the translated page, which still doesn't make much sense.

Otherwise, the many new ways of contributing $$$ is wonderful!

Thanks a whole lot for this!

Cheers,

Marc

Re: [libreoffice-website] Conference page Sponsors placement / donate link

2012-09-28 Thread Florian Effenberger

Hi,

Marc Paré wrote on 2012-09-28 14:28:

On the conference site, I was wondering if there was a way to move the
list of Sponsors a little to the right to match the margins of the text
above it. The list of Sponsors (bottom of page) looks too much
flush-left and looks strange.

that's something Andreas should be able to answer. It's Plone, and I
have no clue. :)

Is there going to be a donation link somewhere on that page?

If so, to FrODeV, since they are the organizer, not TDF.

that's indeed a point - I have no idea if we can omit that, or make it
smaller... maybe Christian has an idea. My goal, however, is indeed to
have many localizations, so we might run into that problem...

[libreoffice-website] Re: trying to access /admin redirects to admin/comments (was: donations web page in pt-BR)

Hi Christian, all

Now I land in a page where I see the EN donation entry page with 2
sections: Content and Original Content.

But the page cannot be edited.

Regards
Olivier

[trying to edit donate.libreoffice.org page, even when direct page-URL

You should have all the needed permissions - but maybe there is a
mixup because you got different permissions for differet subsites,

Indeed this was the case - when logging in to the cms, the cms
determines what links (admin sections) the current user can access,
 and only displays those.
So far, so good. But the subsites-code had an additional feature
that would redirect a user to a subsite where he does have access,
when trying to load a page where he doesn't have access.

The problem now was that there is no difference between the check for
can the user click that link and is the user acutally trying to
view the link - they all end up in the same code, that causes people
to be redirected to a page where they have a more privileged access
rights (i.e. more links). Thus in case for Olivier, he's stuck in the
Brazilian comments-admin section when trying to access
 donate.libreoffice.org admin.[1]

I removed the redirection, that should fix the problem. Please check.

 ciao
 Christian
 [1] it checks:
 * can I access Page-Tree: OK
 * can I access ImagesFiles: OK
 * can I access Comments: Dang, not on donate.libreoffice.org, but hey,
he can access it on the brazilian subsite, so just switch the size to
the pt-BR site and redirect him to admin/comments, I'm sure he wants
 to access that page
That it only needs to check whether to show the URL-Entry in that case
 is ignored.

The good thing is, that the check whether the user has the rights to
access those links on the selected subsites is done anyway.

Re: [libreoffice-website] Donation site list of translations

2012-09-28 Thread Christian Lohmaier
Hi Marc, *,

On Fri, Sep 28, 2012 at 2:57 PM, Marc Paré m...@marcpare.com wrote:

Once we get a large number of languages,

Well - having a large number of languages is nice, but not essential.
Especially the small ones that don't have much content on their
NL-pages probably won't contribute much to the overall amount of
donations/those people are used to see english page instead of their
native language. Or they wouldn't find their way to
donate.libreoffice.org anyway.

I don't know if the look of a large
list will give the page a good look (I am trying not to use 'professional
look'). But when people drop by the page, and if there is a long list, it
 may not look too inviting.

Easiest thing is to limit the list to just one line using css and have
it expand on click.

As it stands now, there are just 5 translations, and there are already
spacing problems (or at least that's the impression one gets); the languages
are not in any order -- alphabetical should be the default, or, is there an
option for a drop-down button instead?

Drop-downs is a last-resort solution, as that then hides all the nice
languages. It should jump into your face that there are many
languages available, you shouldn't need to hunt for them.
And btw: they are in alphabetical order, just that non-ascii character
placement might not be what you expect.
Currently available on Draft site are the following translations:
Русский 日本語 Deutsch Türkçe Português (Brasil)

so Cyrillic, kanji, then D, T, P - that is alphabetical order, with
symbols sorted first.

If we really get so many languages that the available space is too
small / the list gets too ugly, one can always add some javascript
to suggest the user the page that matches the browser's
accept-language.
(probably not a bad idea to add the code even earlier, and give the
matching items a more stand-out look)

Do we really need the link Start on the page? It doesn't seem to be of any
use. Well, unless you want to go back to the start page after going to the
translated page, which still doesn't make much sense.

The label Start probably doesn't make much sense right now, but it
doesn't hurt either (unless you have a different proposal).

It is planned to fill that donate.libreoffice.org site with some more
pages in future.

ciao
Christian
