[libreoffice-website] Self hosting wordpress

2013-11-04 Thread Andrew Cassidy
Saw a quick post from Florian saying you're looking into self-hosting
wordpress, so I thought I'd drop in my 2 cents :)

It plays very nicely with nginx/php-fpm. With correct settings and plugins
it can go very quick. There's also a setting you need to stick in wordpress
code to force it to use url rewiriting (it tries to detect apache plugins,
which obviously fails). You can also log it down quite well using php
open_basedir and equivalent settings.

I'm also told the w3 total cache is worth a look, supports caching of whole
pages or individual database queries. Couple that with APC or memcache.

It's also way too easy to get plugin-happy, sadly.

I'm not by any means saying I'm an expert at wordpress or hosting it, mind
:)

  Priority: medium
Bug ID: 71214
CC: website@global.libreoffice.org
  Assignee: libreoffice-b...@lists.freedesktop.org
Summary: Other: Remove version number from Get-Help
Installation pages for Mac/Linux
  Severity: normal
Classification: Unclassified
OS: All
  Reporter: owen.ge...@gmail.com
  Hardware: Other

   Version: 3.3 all versions

Created attachment 88599
  -- https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=88599action=edit

Problem description: Currently the pages providing installation advice for both
the MacOS and Linux platforms include a version number from the old v3 series.
This should be removed to bring it in-line with the same page for Windows.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Visit http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/installation/mac/ or
http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/installation/linux/
2. Notice the text in the browser tab and browser window title. For the Mac
page it states LibreOffice 3 and for the Linux page LibreOffice 3.3. Refer
attached screenshots.
3. Now visit http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/installation/windows/ and
compare. Not version number is shown.

Current behavior: (Old) version number is shown.

Expected behavior: No version number is shown.

Operating System: All
Version: 3.3 all versions

thanks for the feedback! :-) We're right now setting up some VMs for
services, and when we have cycles free, I'd like to host the WordPress
on our own. It's being in use already for a Brazilian page, and I plan
to extend that blog to allow multiple sites - nginx is definitely a big
candidate for us as well, as other webservers begin to fail coping with
the load we produce. :)

[libreoffice-website] improving our Plone sites

2013-11-04 Thread Florian Effenberger

Hello,

Andreas Mantke has spent a large chunk of his time to set up various
Plone sites that are extensively used by the project (thank you so much
for your ongoing work on this!). While these sites genereally perform
quite well, there are some areas that definitely need improvement, and
probably some work on the main Plone code.

TDF's board is currently evaluating options of involving an external
party to improve the most pushing items in due time. For that to happen,
Andreas, Christian and myself would like to compile a list of needs and
wishes, but also of bugs and problems, that currently occur on the
extensions and templates website. (For ODFAuthors, FrODeV is in charge,
and for the conference, we will not use Plone anymore in 2014.)

If you have feedback on this, please add your items to

http://pad.documentfoundation.org/p/infra

We will review and prioritize those, to come up with a first batch of
things to be done. Please be sensible with your wishes - this first
round is for targetting the most urgent needs and problems, and not for
a complete rewrite of the pages. ;-)

For discussions on this project, feel free to use the
website@global.libreoffice.org mailing list.

Thank you very much,
Florian
