[libreoffice-website] [Wiki] Marking abandoned or outdated pages

2014-01-02 Thread Volker Merschmann
Hi all,

some of you (especially Dennis and Wojciech started to sort out older pages.

Two wishes from my side:

- Do not mark pages as abandoned if they are not touched for a certain
time, but try to find a proof for that. Else you can ask the last editors.

- Let us agree upon a template and category (or two/three) to put on these
pages to be recognized.

I am open for suggestions on the latter point.

Volker

[libreoffice-website] Re: [libreoffice-projects] Linux installation guide on the site

I am redoing it for the new website but I think some of the info there
 needs update.

I'd go for a command line only instructions, as people don't necessarily
know that nautilus is the file manager or use gnome...

And the desktop-integration subdirectory is no more. There's only the
freedesktop-menus rpm (and the Debian one for the Debs)

Any guidance appreciated, otherwise I'll rewrite it
entirely, but it will be shorter.

Shorter is better. Strip the how to download stuff..

* open terminal
* extract the downloaded tar balls (tar -xf filename) (all at once)
* install RPMs. Just use plain rpm, no need to use system specific tool as
there are no dependencies that need to be resolved:
rpm -Uhv LibreOffice*/RPMS/*.rpm

Done.
Replace the last line with the corresponding deb command.

Ciao
Christian

Re: [libreoffice-website] How to integrate the Nabble interface page with the (future) website

And on the current website this is accomplished by using a special
NabblePage page type where you enter the ID of the forum to
  display in the toplevel.
(as custom javascript is stripped from normal pages)

  https://github.com/tdf/cms-themes/blob/master/libo/templates/Layout/NabblePage.ss

Thanks! Does it mean I need to create a Virtual Page or how would
this special page fit within SilverStripe?

No. currently is uses a dedicated NabblePage page type:
 https://github.com/tdf/cms-code/blob/master/mysite/code/NabblePage.php
(and that in turn then uses the NabblePage.ss template)

The pagetype adds a new database-field that stores the Forum (aka
mailnglist) ID that should be displayed. and adds that to the backend.

Note that the struture of the backend has changed (no more various
tabs - so for applying that to the newdesign page, the function has to
be adjusted to add the form-field to the expected place).

I did pretty much what you explained and indeed I have the Nabble page
type and template created inside the CMS. I can access and create a
Nabble page, but when I do so the Create button will run in a loop, not
creating the page. Did I put the template and the page type in the
wrong place?

Best,

Charles.

 ciao
 Christian

[libreoffice-website] [Bug 73236] New: Add mechanism to simplify event/holiday-based branding of the main website

2014-01-02 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=73236

  Priority: medium
Bug ID: 73236
CC: website@global.libreoffice.org
  Assignee: libreoffice-b...@lists.freedesktop.org
Summary: Add mechanism to simplify event/holiday-based branding
of the main website
  Severity: enhancement
Classification: Unclassified
OS: All
  Reporter: qu...@runcibility.com
  Hardware: Other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
   Version: unspecified
 Component: WWW
   Product: LibreOffice

Many websites make small event/holiday-based tweaks to their websites. Some,
such as Google, take this to an art form with 'Google Doodles', etc..

It would be great for us to have some mechanism to make it easy to add these
little tweaks to our website, perhaps even scheduling them ahead of time to
have them appear for a single day or a group of days.

Example events:
- Document Freedom Day
- LibreOffice's Birthday
- Software Freedom Day
- Release days (especially nice: a multi-day countdown to release)
- Winter Holiday/Christmas
- New Year's Day
- Valentine's Day

Although this process is more programmatic than design-related, we might wish
to consider such a system during the current Website Redesign.
