 Hi Kendy, Hi Andras,

English pages contain headlines which is murdered by the
 Pootle-Mediawiki-Conversation-script:
 == Headline text ==
 gets converted to
 #61;#61; Headline text #61;#61;

Can we fix the script (I guess this is intended because of Math formulas?
 maybe simply only exclude headlines)

Instead of fixing the script, I edited the original xml help page in a
way that the script parses well. We do not want to overcomplicate this
temporary script (well, it's been around for 3 years, but it is still
considered as a temporary hack). The page will be fixed by the next
wiki update, which will happen soon, as I find some time for it.

 2)
The user in question would have done the changes within the wiki by himself,
but he said the wiki is locked. Well he's right. Can we modify the log in
 screen ( https://help.libreoffice.org/index.php?title=Special:UserLogin )
with a marker box (similar to
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Get_Involved ), that this wiki is not
intended for modififcations and that the user should request help at the
website@ml or the corresponding local mailing list which he can found at
 https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Local_Mailing_Lists

Help Wiki pages are regularly overwritten with a script. The
authoritative source is still the help xml from the git repo.
Currently it makes little sense to manually fix anything in wiki.

Andras

 Thanks, fixed.

I cannot see, in the same page, credits for Translators/Revisers that give
contribution in Pootle/inside SilverStripe, if planned.

The problem is that there's no easy way to get that info. In pootle we
only have only the registered users, and no way to tell whether they
are active or not, whether they registered without doing anything.

On the other hand, we could craft queries to the Pootle database, the
information is there, just not presentable by the web interface. For
example I had a query, which listed the top 50 translators.

mysql SELECT username, first_name, last_name, email, count(*) AS
submissions FROM auth_user INNER JOIN pootle_app_submission AS sub ON
auth_user.id=sub.submitter_id GROUP BY auth_user.id ORDER BY
submissions DESC LIMIT 50;

If someone volunteers to create a query for the credits page, so only
those people would be credited, who actually submitted something, I'm
sure that admins can run that query from time to time.

  Site
  Classification: Unclassified
 Product: LibreOffice
 Version: 3.4.5 release
Platform: Other
 URL: http://www.libreoffice.org/download/release-notes/
  OS/Version: All
  Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: medium
   Component: WWW
  AssignedTo: libreoffice-b...@lists.freedesktop.org
  ReportedBy: libreoff...@bielefeldundbuss.de
  CC: website@global.libreoffice.org

In Release Notes LibreOffice 3.6.1 Final (2012-08-29) I fond the hint
concerning the Workaround for the 3.4 uninstall Bug 36677 - Uninstall
 Problems
with MSI on Windows 7 64bit:
For Windows users that have LibreOffice prior to version 3.4.5 installed,
either uninstall that beforehand, or upgrade to 3.4.5. Otherwise, the
 upgrade
 to 3.6.1 may fail.
That hint is correct, but useless, 3.4.5 is no longer available via LibO
 site.
So a link to a mirror with that version (for example
 http://ftp.uni-muenster.de/pub/software/LibreOffice/stable/ or our
 archive (I
forgot the URL) will be required.

Does anyone know the link to our archive site for past versions of
LibreOffice? I can't find it either. It would be better if we pointed users
to the archive site rather than sending them to a mirror site.

It is http://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/
BTW I fixed the above mentioned bug in SilverStripe but someone need
to approve it (Thorsten, Cloph, Charles, ... I don't remember more
names).

Should we still include a copy on the website? -- it seems to serve no other

Would you also know which group would be asked about reviewing/updating the

You may want to read the thread just in case there is a way to fix the

 http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.comp.documentfoundation.libreoffice.user/21409

thanks for bringing this to our attention! Doesn't sound like a website
problem, because the installer is multilanguage, so the right file seems to
be served. It looks more like a problem in the Windows installer itself.
Cc'ing Andras, who is working on that IMHO.

Text of download page is partially responsible for some confusion. For
example, when I go to https://www.libreoffice.org/download/, it says
LibreOffice Windows, version 3.5.4, Hungarian. So I may think that I'm
going to download a Hungarian installer, It is not clear, that I will
dowload a multi language installer. I think this fact should be
emphasized.

Windows installer automatically starts on the language of the regional
settings of Windows. It is suitable for 99% of users. This is a
WIndows feature, not ours. There is a related bug report in Bugzilla:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=51038 The question is, if
it is possible to start installer in English without changing regional
settings to English. I don't have the answer yet. It is easy to force
installer to start in any language, but English seems to be special.
Interesting. :)

I did not get any reply to this mail. Now I can edit the main website,
I've got rights. However, this page is not accessible, when I select
it in SilverStripe, I get server error (the error message is in a
popup window in raw html source – funny). May I ask website admins to
take a look at this page? Also, I don't know how you generated the
contents for the page, I'm sure it was generated by a script. Please
publish the script. There were complaints in developers' list that the
data on the page is not accurate, for me it looks like that the data
from the old and now obsoleted 'build' repo was not taken into
account when the current page was generated.

Re: [libreoffice-website] 3.5 features page ...

2012-02-12 Thread Andras Timar
Hi Marc,

2012/2/12 Marc Paré m...@marcpare.com:
Selecting only 6 is great! As to which 6 becomes a choice of one's opinions
as to what is most important from where you see it. For example:

 * word count -- included as the OP- Michael Meeks thought is should be
highlighted; It is also a recurring request on the user lists; in my field
of education/academia, this feature is one that is extremely important for
instructional purposes as well as report/essay writing. I also run an
webzine and will be able to quote LibreOffice to potential writers who will
 certainly appreciate this feature.
 * Arabic/Persion numbering -- we need to show support for non-latin group
languages. This will make our marketing of the product easier -- a word
processor for all languages. This should be one of our recurring
features/messages that we need to advertise.
 * Calc -- unless I am mistaken, LibreOffice modules used the most are Writer
and Calc and in that order. Any news of Calc is big news ... especially for
 those coming from Excel
 * Math -- unless I am mistaken, LibreOffice is the preferred tool for Math
writers. Showing more support for Math is also big news
 * Postgresql -- this is also a recurring request on the users list. MySql
and Postgresql have been on many peoples' list of feature request. Base is
really not that popular ... it is common knowledge that there is little
interest in Base development (not sure if this has changed).

As you can see, there are differences of opinions on the Featured List
which is the reason that I am not such a big fan of it. I am sure if Italo
had his word, he would have a different combination of features. I am more
in favour of a properly ordered features list and the Featured list would
be put to better use in marketing documents.

Yes, you are right. Personal preferences always affect selection. I
tried to select those features which took significant effort to
develop. 5 of 6 took several man months of development. The only
exception may be the update service, which existed before but was
disabled, and now it works again. It was also a frequently asked
feature on forums.

The order of importance is again by opinion. I tried to keep to the original
features list put out by the devs -- maybe this should be sorted at that
level as the website features list could be put together by someone who is
not as up-to-date with the importance of each feature; the devs may be more
in-tune with the importance of features. I jumped in at the last minute to
put the page together. Frankly, it would be nice to get advice for each
section ... let me know if you would like some items moved around or feel
 free to move them around.

OK, I will reorder, if I feel necessary. In fact the original order
was random. :) At least when I added features to wiki, I did not care
about the order, I just put them somewhere in the appropriate section.
Next time it should be done better. Starting with a good wiki page
will make web editors' work much easier.

The page should go live as soon as the 3.5 final is announced.

I'm sure that tomorrow the page will be reviewed by many people,
including Michael, and it will be in good shape by release time.

Cheers,
Andras

I will be back on later tonight UTC-5. Had to do some family stuff today and
more tomorrow and can only be on intermittently during the day.

Feel free to leave me notes on what you think should be on the Featured
list ... I also left another long answer as to what I thought of the
Featured list that you may want to read.

Many thanks for your work! I read your e-mail about Featured list. It
is interesting what you think. However, I think Featured list is
important. We have many new features. We cannot expect that the press
and average user will list and know them all. We need to select ~6 big
features that are easy to understand and were hard to develop. When
somebody asks me, what is new in LibreOffice 3.5, then I can answer
shortly: these are the key features plus there are many others, see
them on the website, if you are interested.

In your selection I found features that I would not highlight.
Word count dialog - good feature, but it is not that big
Arabic/Persian numbering types - not interesting for most of our users
New Calc functions - too technical
Calc performance improvement - too general, and we cannot show a
screenshot here :)
Math new symbols - too technical
Postgresql driver - too technical

I created a new page with my selection of most important features (3.5
Features (TA)). Please let me know what you think.

Below Featured Selection I think we need to list the features in order
of their importance, i.e. at least each section should be started with
the key feature, the features with screenshots, then others. I did not
fully understand why you used two column tables for some features and
single columns for others.

Andras

page.  SO 30 languages seems to be wrong.

Am I correct in my assumption that the 30 languages need to be changed to
 100+ languages?

We ship language packs 100+ languages. Statistics of most of the can
be viewed on https://translations.documentfoundation.org/. Supporting
100+ languages does not mean that LibreOffice is fully localized into
100+ languages.

Andras

I was just wondering just that. We have 2 different spellings on our website
and I will correct it. I just need confirmation of the spelling.

Data Pilot (with space) or DataPilot (no space)

 I don't have my previous 3.3. installed.

Hi Marc,

It is DataPilot, however it has been just renamed to Pivot Table in
3.4 so it's better to use Pivot Table for end users.

Should we not keep adding features from the 3.3.2 and 3.3.3 to the 3.3
Features page on our website? Same for the 3.4.x page.

If so, I'll volunteer to keep it up to date.

In theory 3.3.x and 3.4.x are bugfix and localization fix releases
with no new features. Do you know about new features in 3.3.3 that is
worth mentioning?

In any case - this is what it will work/look like once the
announcement is made and the files are on mirrors:
 http://pumbaa.documentfoundation.org:7780/download/

It looks good! Can you please fix a few things?

1. missing language names:
dgo - Fixme - Dogri - dgo - डोगरी (from Wikipedia)
ast - - ast - Asturianu (from LibreOffice translation)
ca-XV - - ca-XV - Català (valencià) (from LibreOffice translation)

2. ns and nso are the same language (use nso as it is the standard)

3. Do not offer localized version 3.3.2 help packs for those languages
which do not have localized help packs for 3.4. Obviously they did not
have localized help in version 3.3.x, we packaged and shipped English.
But it looks like a regression, someone can say, hey, I had the
Occitan help for 3.3.2 why don't you ship it with 3.4.

Many thanks,
Andras

updates applied to 3.3.x when applied to 3.4?

I am more worried about our support and end of life policy. I am not
sure I have seen any of this as this is our first real major upgrade
 from our initial version release.

You are right. But we should put this point of discussion out of this
thread (maybe out of this list). It is too important for beeing hidden
behind download pages for two versions. Would you open for this a new
 thread?

Does anyone know if this policy exists?

 Cheers

I think this should be put to the devs as they are the people who will
decide if they will support previous versions of LibreOffice. Without their
support we will obvious not be able to maintain different versions or
branches of the suite. I really don't think we will have enough manpower to
maintain any more than one version. I'll put it on the dev.

If you look at the http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleasePlan, you
can see that at any given point in time there is always a mature
product (currenty 3.3.2 soon 3.3.3), a new stable release with
features (currently 3.4.0) and the development branch. Critical
bugfixes are backported. Life span of a major release is about 8
months and these time ranges are overlapping.

I'm sorry, if I caused trouble with these renamings in the code, I did
not think of the download page at that time.

2) sh - srpski (In fact it is Serbian with Latin script but it has to
use the sh language code because of limitations in LibreOffice. It is
generated with a transliterating script from sr translation. IMHO it
is not Serbo-Croatian.)

Thanks Andras. I haven't put this to the dev list yet.

So, should we then we make these downloads (mature and stable release)
available from our main download pages? Once past the 8 months, we could
have a legacy page available for those which are no longer being
 supported.

Yes, I think so. It would be terrific, if you could hack or link the
adapt-o-meter (http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/File:Adapt-o-meter.png)
somehow into the download page.

You choose Main on top and English (US) in the left panel, then click

On your subsite I created a virtual page and selected the source.

Of course you may delete all this (delete from preview) in case it is

Well the way this is to be done is described above.

When I create a new virtual page on the HU site, I cannot specify the
subsite. I want to specify subsite Main, but that drop down list is
missing from the page.

I can duplicate the Download page that you created and link another page
from Main site from there, so workaround exists.
