I only have 1mb upload.
It seems to work OK but I don't stream live. I do time lapse.

Nothing to do with Thunderbird, it's the behaviour of gmail.
Gmail thinks you don't need to see your own posts.

Can you write out a more complete explanation of your situation, and

Hi Gary,

The week.json having winddir close to 270 always is fine. This is south
west monsoon season and the winds are always from west and west south west
here from June to September.

Will look into other stuff you mentioned and get back soon.

[weewx-user] Re: Need help with forecasts in SteelSeries extension - apologies in advance

2018-09-01 Thread Philip Kutzenco
Gary,

Here's the log file. FWIW, in gauges.js, I set the pageUpdateLimit to 0 (so
the web page wouldn't time out) and the realtimeInterval to 300 - matching
the archive interval of 5 minutes (so the viewer will get an indication of
when the web page will update). I've waiting more than long enough for
several web page updates, though.

Thanks for the quick reply and offer to help.

Best,
Phil

[weewx-user] Need help with forecasts in SteelSeries extension - apologies in advance

2018-09-01 Thread Philip Kutzenco
I am a pretty new WeeWX user (installed with setup.py and running on a
Raspberry Pi for a month or so). I've been mostly successful - up to now.

WeeWX is running well (V3.8.2) on my Pi Zero W with a Real Time Clock and
nginx as a web server. I'm collecting data from a Davis Vantage Vue
station. I installed the SteelSeries extension and that is working well. I
then installed the forecast extension with an expectation to get the
Zambretti forecast to use in the scrolling area of the SS. The forecast
extension successfully outputs "sample" forecast html files in the
public_html/forecast directory including the Zambretti forecast. I see no
errors in the log - Zambretti forecasts are generated.

However, even after spending a significant amount of time reviewing Wiki
and WeeWX-user group info, I can't get the forecast to work with SS. No
matter what I do, the scrolling area still says "forecast is unavailable".

The most pertinent info I found was to add the line:
search_list_extensions = user.forecast.ForecastVariables
to the [Cheetah Generator] section of skin.conf for SteelSeries.

That didn't fix it for me. Am I supposed to add a [[[forecast]]] template
under [[ToDate]]? If so, what should that be?

Anyway, I apologize. I'm sure I should have quickly found out how to do
this, but I haven't been successful. So, please excuse this question - What
do I need to do to get this working?

FWIW, after this, I plan to install the Realtime extension. Next I will
work on MQTT and plan to move over to the Belchertown extension that Pat
has developed and which he is actively augmenting. Hosted publication of my
page will follow!

Apologies and thanks in advance.

Re: [weewx-user] Winddirplot with weewx-Highcharts

2018-09-01 Thread gjr80
Ok, I think there are a couple of issues here. Firstly, I cannot get your
weekly plots to display, the page gives an error in plot.js; it seems that
I updated plot.js after I put out the most recent weewx-Highcharts release
but never updated the plot.js that is listed separately on the release. Try
replacing your existing plot.js with this one
.

Hopefully that will get your weekly plots displaying.

As for the 90 degree wind direction, that is actually the yearly plot (it
uses year.json not week.json)not the weekly plot. The yearly plot displays
daily values appropriate to the observation being plotted. For outTemp this
is daily min, max and avg, for windSpeed this is day gust, day max 5 min
average speed and day average speed. For windDir the day vector average
direction is plotted. For some reason this is being set to 90 degrees or
null (open up the direction plot to display the full suite of data not just
the last month that it defaults to). I note your week.json has windDir that
is very close to 270 degrees nearly all the time, maybe there is some funny
vector averaging going on, I think not as it would not give exactly 90
degrees all the time. I need to look into this further.

The bottom line is what data highcharts is plotting appears consistent with
the data it is being fed. I expect once the plot.js issue is fixed the
weekly plots will render fine as will the weekly windDir plot. I need to
look further at how the year winDir data is
generated.

swap the first and last colour pair (ie 0xecb57c) you will get the blue
that you seek. You should be able to use #RRGGBB but I seem to recall I
struck a few quirks with this a few years back, could be mistaken though.
Looking at the section Customizing images
 in the
Customization Guide and then again at the [ImageGenerator] Overall options
 section this
details is not explicitly stated, it is covered though in notes under
[ImageGenerator] in the Standard skin.conf
.
I guess most folks would see these when they customize the Standard skin
but in your case you may not as perhaps you are working with another skin.
Probably need to make a few changes to the Customization Guide.

[weewx-user] Custom Charts Question; colors, labels at bottom

2018-09-01 Thread David Hathaway
I love the Belchertown skin, but I am uncomfortable with the very long
processing time to create the highcharts. I am pondering the ability to
run the JSON charts for day charts, and to switch to the weewx standard
charts for week, month, and year. So what I am doing now is trying to
recreate the JSON chart look with the imagegenerator.

My current status is attached. The top is the imagegenerator version and
the bottom is the highcharts / JSON version. The biggest difference I am
ignoring, where highcharts uses "today" versus imagegenerator using "last
24 hours". That won't be important for weekly+ periods.

The first hurdle was fonts. The highcharts use Lucida, which is
proprietary to Macs. Otherwise, the skin uses Lato, which is opensource
and available. Installing that font and using it in the charts resolves
that issue completely (at least on my screen!). I might continue to seek
an on-demand online font (Google font?) that allows everyone to see the
same thing; I doubt visitors will want to install a font,

But now I am puzzled as to how to solve the other obvious issues:

   - How do I get rid of the vertical grid lines?
   - How do I move the labels from the top to the bottom; I am supposing
   sample lines are impossible.
   - I am being driven nuts by the colors. They should be blue, black,
   green, orange from left to right. No matter what I do, they are shown
   orange, black, green, and blue.

Here is what I tried first (excerpted):

[ImageGenerator]

# Default colors for the plot lines. These can be overridden for
# individual lines using option 'color'
chart_line_colors = 0x7cb5ec, 0x434348, 0x90ed7d, 0xf7a35c, 0x8085e9,
0xf15c80, 0xe4d354, 0x2b908f, 0xf45b5b, 0x91e8e1

# Default fill colors for bar charts. These can be overridden for
# individual bar plots using option 'fill_color'
chart_fill_colors = 0x7cb5ec, 0x434348, 0x90ed7d, 0xf7a35c, 0x8085e9,
0xf15c80, 0xe4d354, 0x2b908f, 0xf45b5b, 0x91e8e1

However, it does not use the colors in that order. Is it alphabetical?

No matter, I tried,

[[[daytempdew]]]
outTemp
   color = 0x7cb5ec
dewpoint
   color = 0x434348
windchill
   color = 0x90ed7d
heatindex
   color = 0xf7a35c

[[[daywind]]]
windSpeed
   color = 0x7cb5ec
windGust
   color = 0x434348

The comments and the guide suggests using color = should overwrite whatever
is the default but they are not using the specified colors. You can see it
most easily on the wind graph.

I am generally happy so far, in that generating the 22 charts using
imagegenerator takes .53 seconds compared to 134 seconds using the
highcharts. I just would like to tweak the look and I am confounded by the
colors.

BTW, the url is https://hathaway.house/weewx/belchertown/

Re: [weewx-user] Rsync error

2018-09-01 Thread Jens-Jørgen Kjærgaard
First I tried to generate a new id_rsa as root, but as you would expect, it
changed nothing.
Next, I did as you suggested, and now it works - thanks.

Though I don't quite know why :).

But in the /etc/root/.ssh/config file (not /root/.ssh/config) by default,

Hosts *

- I would guess that the * means any ip?
However, replacing it with my server ip solved the problem anyway.
So, everything is fine now - I will try, someday, to not use root as user,
I know I shouldn't - but it is a bit hard to change a working system :)

Thanks for helping out.

Re: [weewx-user] Re: Belchertown skin for weewx now available!

2018-09-01 Thread David Hathaway
Sylvain,

You are impacted by the very issue we are discussing. It looks like you
can avoid the error by modifying *records/index.html.tmpl *around line 132

FROM:
$alltime.*wind*.maxtime.format("%B %-d, %Y at %-I:%M
%p")
$alltime.*wind*.max

TO:
$alltime.*windGust*.maxtime.format("%B %-d, %Y at
%-I:%M %p")
$alltime.*windGust*.max

The issue as described above is limited to the $alltime.wind variable.

With this change, you will get a log entry like

cheetahgenerator: Generated 16 files for report Belchertown in 134.22
seconds

but in your case it looks to be 14 minutes instead of 2.

If you can live without the graphs (I can't), turning them off makes the
generation quick. I went from 134.22 seconds to 0.99 seconds. To do that,
that set highcharts_enabled = 0 in Extras. I moved my Belchertown settings
to weewx.conf, and I suggest you do the same so they aren't overwritten in
updates:

you should also specify the user in the ssh config file:

Host rsyncserver.com
  User jens
  IdentityFile /home/jens/.ssh/id_rsa

in the world of ssh, the user is independent of the ssh certificates. so
it is usually a good idea to specify user just to be safe.

for example, you might be 'jens' on the computer on which weewx is running,
but jensjorgen on the rsync server. in that case you would specify 'User
jensjorgen' in the ssh config file.

ssh keys can be used by any user.

if you generated the ssh keys as user 'jens', you should have this:

~jens/.ssh/id_rsa
~jens/.ssh/id_rsa.pub

you just need to tell weewx to use that identity file for rsync connections
(by default, if you run rsync as root it will look for /root/.ssh/id_rsa
and /root/.ssh/id_rsa.pub)

how does one tell rsync to use a specific certificate?

rsync -e "ssh -i /home/jens/.ssh/id_rsa" ...

but there is no mechanism in weewx to pass those additional arguments. so
use the ssh config file for the user who is running weewx (in this case,
that means root):

in the file /root/.ssh/config do this:

Host nameofrsyncserver.com
  IdentityFile /home/jens/.ssh/id_rsa

so then any time you try to do anything that uses ssh (rsync, scp, ssh) to
nameofrsyncserver.com, ssh will use the identity of jens to make the
connection.

note that you can also generate ssh keys specifically for the weewx process
or a weewx user, then use those to connect to your server. that would be
the safest thing to do, and run weewx as the weewx user.

I'm running weewx as root.
I didn't think it had influence on the private keys - but obviously it has.
So I have to create another key as root - or run weewx as my username?

Re: [weewx-user] Rsync error

2018-09-01 Thread Thomas Keffer
If you can use rsync just fine from the command line, but not from within
WeeWX, the problem may be the user you are using to run WeeWX. Is it the
same? Or, is it root? Or, something else?

With the skin installed, the reports thread never finish. Usually it takes
15-50 seconds to generate them(Raspberry Pi 2) but it never finish now.
Any clue?

[weewx-user] Rsync error

2018-09-01 Thread Jens-Jørgen Kjærgaard
For some years, I have been running weewx with no major problems, on a
raspberry.

Now I want to upload to an extra server (also raspberry), using rsync.
However, I get

rsyncupload: [['rsync', '--archive', '--stats', '--delete', '-e ssh',
'/home/jjk/weewx/public_html/', 'jjk@185.127.50.88:/media/hytte']] reported
errors: Permission denied, please try again.. Permission denied
(publickey,password).. rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (0 bytes
received so far) [sender]. rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream
(code 12) at io.c(605) [sender=3.0.9]

I understand there is a problem with my publickey or password.
However, when I from the same raspberry use sftp or ssh or even try rsync
with the same settings, I have no problem uploading the files - it is only
when I try using weewx, I get the problem. Of course I can upload the files
with sftp - but it would be more elegant from inside weewx.

The relevant Rsync section of weewx.conf:

[[RSYNC]]
# rsync'ing to a webserver is treated as just another report
skin = Rsync

# If you wish to use rsync, you must configure passwordless ssh
using
# public/private key authentication from the user account that weewx
# runs as to the user on the remote machine where the files
# will be copied.
#
# The following three lines determine where files will be sent.
server = 185.127.50.88
path = /media/hytte
user = jjk

# Rsync can be configured to remove files from the remote server if
# they don't exist under HTML_ROOT locally. USE WITH CAUTION: if you
# make a mistake in the remote path, you could could unintentionally
# cause unrelated files to be deleted. Set to 1 to enable remote
file
# deletion, zero to allow files to accumulate remotely.
delete = 1
