[Bug 16642] Lift restriction on unregistered page creation in project space
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16642 --- Comment #1 from Martin Jones m.s.jo...@ncl.ac.uk 2008-12-14 09:57:15 UTC --- It was once suggested to me by a developer that it would be simpler to derestrict the whole of the project namespace. I did propose this once on the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:VPT|VPT]. Although no one objected, only one other person took part in the discussion, so consensus can not be claimed. Therefore I make this request only for subpages of Wikipedia:Articles for creation. [Bug 16642] New: Lift restriction on unregistered page creation in project space
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16642 Summary: Lift restriction on unregistered page creation in project space Product: Wikimedia Version: unspecified Platform: All OS/Version: All Status: NEW Severity: enhancement Priority: Normal Component: General/Unknown AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org ReportedBy: m.s.jo...@ncl.ac.uk This is a request from the WikiProject Articles for Creation to lift the restriction on creating pages by unregistered users for pages with the prefix Wikipedia:Articles for creation\ Background *Currently unregistered users are prevented from creating pages in all subject spaces (i.e. non-talk pages). *Articles for Creation (AfC) is a Wikipedia process for allowing unregistered users to submit articles. They are reviewed by experienced editors and, if suitable, created. *AfC is currently using getting around the page creation restriction by putting new submissions in talk space. (All submissions have the prefix Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Submissions/.) Rationale *AfC is an important process as it allows unregistered users to participate fully in the project. Some editors do not want to register an account. *The current process is abusing the namespace system. Article submissions should go into subject space; the talk page should be left for discussing the article. *Sometimes orphaned talk pages are deleted in Wikipedia *There is a bot (Sinebot) which signs all posts in talkspace. This is inappropriate here and there is not an easy way to exclude the bot. Links http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Articles_for_creation/Proposed_new_entry_process Discussion about the process -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. I see two issues so far. The bigger one is that thumbnailing doesn't seem to work. The other problem is file extensions: it seems I can upload gzipped SVG as either .svg or .svgz, but not as .svg.gz (which is what I originally tried). I'm not sure what the most reasonable thing to do here would be What we do for .jpeg, .jpg, .JPEG, .JPG, etc. is just store the extensions differently despite there being no difference in the file type. :) Which is the bug for don't make file extension part of file name? I don't see why users should decide whether to gzip SVG at upload time, though. Surely it should just be transparently compressed as it's served to the user, like with styles/scripts? .svgz and .svg.gz could then be accepted as aliases for .svg on upload, and the files could be decompressed for storage. Or compressed, or whatever, but consistently. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l

I do have some concerns about performance though, but we could reopen the feature request if the performance turned out to be too poor, and use it only on tagged articles. The usability would be higher with this scheme than with conventional FlaggedRevs. However, it also seems from data from the German trial that no reduction in vandalism was observed from FlaggedRevs, so the theory that this feature is based on may be based on flawed analysis of vandalism psychology. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. Shouldn't the ref was part be localizable, though? Also, can the old check (lines 158-161) be removed, or is it still useful? The old check was there to warn the user against the annoying problem of unbalanced tags, which the parser just chews up silently. There is another check to prevent the XML-valid nesting of tags (for various reasons). Before, this failed fairly silently, so the new error is there to alert the user that something is wrong. Both pieces of code are meant to be in use. {{#tag:ref||name=0}} fails. At line 143, it should be is_null($key) instead of $key==false. Thanks. I have thoroughly rewritten the parser tests now to test nearly exhaustively all possible ways of producing a single error, and some ways of producing two. This should catch more of this sort of thing (but not so many false negatives) in future. Perhaps another set of tests for 'pathological positives' would be helpful sometime. When the ref tag has unknown parameters (e.g. ref name=foo value=bar), false is returned from refArg into $key. Instead of generating an error, these are now all being treated as ref name= group=0 would be were name= allowed. Either restore the check for $key===false in guardedRef, or change refArg to silently ignore unknown parameters. The problem was just a slightly sloppy merge of a line from the stuff that had changed since the version I started working from. I have removed a few cases from refArg to neaten up the possible return values and fixed up guardedRef. You're not escaping the group when outputting the inline ref tags: try ref group=lt;scriptgt;alert('Pwned!')lt;/scriptgt;Uh-oh/ref. Passing $text through htmlspecialchars in referencePlaceText seems to take care of it. Yikes! This one really is my bad. mRefs now holds dangerous text, is documented as such, and everything is escaped when written out to the page (I hope!). I think everthing is safe now, but I should not have slipped up there. Thanks for double-checking my 'late night' code! For the 'cite_error_references_no_text' error, you are not properly escaping the key. But here it seems you can only inject wikitext, so it's just aesthetic rather than a security hole. This is fine. I had thought that anything the user types, they are happy with having echoed back at them as wikitext. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2391 --- Comment #8 from Brion Vibber br...@wikimedia.org 2008-12-15 01:00:01 UTC --- Well, that might be pretty annoying if you're just trying to give a sample of ISBN formatting without actually intending to have a valid number... Could use nowiki there, but dunno if that's just going to be uglier than not. :( -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l

https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16641 --- Comment #2 from Brion Vibber br...@wikimedia.org 2008-12-15 01:45:53 UTC --- Looking at the JS output the CSS issue is in 2008_is_a_nonprofit_meter. The onClick thing I see several times, so check all the recently edited templates... (Note this one doesn't actually hurt anything, though it's technically wrong for XHTML. Should be onclick all lowercase.) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l

[Bug 16651] New: Add 'oga' and 'ogx' to $wgFileExtensions[] to complement ' ogv'
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16651 Summary: Add 'oga' and 'ogx' to $wgFileExtensions[] to complement 'ogv' Product: Wikimedia Version: unspecified Platform: All OS/Version: All Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: Normal Component: Site requests AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org ReportedBy: krim...@toolserver.org http://wiki.xiph.org/index.php/MIME_Types_and_File_Extensions#.ogg_-_audio.2Fogg Xiph.org now recommends using extensions other than .ogg to make audio and video content easier to identify: .oga for audio, .ogv for video, and .ogx for multiplexed logical bitstreams (intended as a catch-all replacement for .ogg; the standards say .ogg should now be used for Vorbis I only for backwards compatibility with media players). Wikimedia's CommonSettings.php already contains a line $wgFileExtensions[] = 'ogv';; corresponding lines should be added for .oga and .ogx. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 16013] Possibility to link to particular section of [[Special: Preferences]]
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16013 Angela bees...@gmail.com changed: What|Removed |Added CC||bees...@gmail.com --- Comment #4 from Angela bees...@gmail.com 2008-12-15 06:49:29 UTC --- Although you can now link to a tab via http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Preferences#prefsection-4 you can not link to sections within a tab. For example, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Preferences#wpDate2 ought to link to the Time zone section of the time and date tab. It briefly goes to the right place but then the page flicks back to the first tab. If you're trying to explain to someone how to change something in their preferences, it's very useful to be able to link them directly to the right place. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug.
