[Bug 20812] Wikisource: IPs unable to flag articles as proofread

2009-09-27 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=20812

--- Comment #7 from ThomasV thoma...@gmx.de 2009-09-27 07:20:32 UTC ---
I understand your point: you want IPs to be able to indicate that they
proofread the text.

I will not implement the solution you propose, because it implies to remove
the double proofreading system, and because this would affect all other
wikisources; such a radical change should at least be discussed with
them beforehand.

The double proofreading system of the extension is not meant to be secure
or sockpuppet-proof. It is just meant to be unambiguous. If we remove the
current restriction on double proofreading, then users could make their
own interpretation of the meaning of the buttons, and this would break
the system.

If there is local consensus at de.ws, I suggest you configure your wiki
so that IPs can indicate they proofread a page. The germans used to do
this with a template before I introduced this buttons system. This should
still work. Using local javascript, you guys can even create buttons linked
to this template, so that IPs will not notice any difference.

I am not sure about the server. Since there is no DST option for Asia/Dhaka at
the Wikimedia Sites as well as other who are using MediaWiki. So All the time

Multilingual projects such as Wikispecies (besides many others outside WMF)
which have localized names for project would utilize some such feature to
display logo according to user language.

Changing the summary to more general and reopening. If closing will follow, I'd

I assume that you are using SMW 1.4.2, so the line 805 in the respective file
is

 $list = preg_split('/^\*/',$value,2);

This code belongs to the backwards compatibility feature of SMW with ancient
versions (before SMW 1.0), which vanishes in SMW 1.5 (although it still exists
in SMW 1.4.3). In this sense, the bug is invalid regarding the current code,
since it no longer occurs there. Wikis that still use pre-1.0 features of SMW
should try to convert to the new syntax (no more ask tags, no more Relation:
namespace), and then remove the setting $smwgSMWBetaCompatible=true; from
LocalSettings.php.

Just a related idea: Maybe it would limit the scope of the problem if only
sysops could read the autoblock-log (or at least only they would get the
username from it). Even though they're not technically oversighters it can
probably be assumed that they won't do anything bad with EvilUsername -
Someone has seen it, anyway. Personally, I don't see a reason why normal users
should need to read the autoblock-log at all.

With the enhanced toolbar enabled, pushing the wikEd regexp button in Firefox
3.5.3 focuses the document. This lets the caret start blinking wherever it was
positioned before. For me the default position is under the edit are, right
before the Content that violates any copyrights will be deleted... element.
This focusing does not happen with the enhanced toolbar disabled.

It does for me:
* Go edit a page with wikEd enabled and the enhanced toolbar disabled
* Type the following in the Firebug console:
$j(document).focus(function(e){console.log(e);});
* Click in the textarea
* Click the regex button
* The console outputs Object originalEvent=Event focus type=focus

$j(document).focus(function(e){console.log(e);}); means: whenever the document
received a focus event, log the event object to the Firebug console. Upon
clicking the regex buttons, two log lines corresponding to focus event objects
appear in the console, which means that clicking the regex button somehow
causes a focus on the document even though the enhanced toolbar isn't enabled.

Note that this requires viewing the edit form with Vector and having
EditWarning enabled, otherwise jQuery won't be loaded and $j won't be defined.

What do you mean with radical change? This existes until a few days ago when
you just implemented something else without a consensus. You don't need to
implement the solution. It already exists since several years and you changed
it without any consensus.

Can you show us one case of miss-use on German Wikisource? Just one to show us
that your dictatorship has at least a root? There never was any problem with
IPs when it came to proofreading. They are a part of our community while you
treat them like dirt, like cheaters, like people who are not to be trusted at
all. That is disgusting. It is called discrimination what you are doing.

[Bug 18765] Bold/italic markup handled differently depending on leading whitespace

2009-09-27 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18765

--- Comment #7 from Platonides platoni...@gmail.com 2009-09-27 21:16:45 UTC
---
Created an attachment (id=6589)
 -- (https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/attachment.cgi?id=6589)
Parser change

MediaWiki handles unbalanced quotes by looking at the different words length
and doing a guess.

The test case showed several issues:
-MediaWiki treated the beginning of line as a multiletter word.
-Markup as span or | are treated as words.

There's also the parser assumption that words are separated by spaces, which is
not true for all languages.

The patch fixes just the first issue (plus parsertest and releasenotes).

Many usages now work, but
span'''Look at ''this edit'''s complicated bold/italic markup!'''/span
and
{|
|'''Look at ''this edit'''s complicated bold/italic markup!'''
|}

Still fail, since it thinks span and | is text instead of markup. I don't
think it's worth trying to instruct it that.

The behavior of parsertest Mixing markup for italics and bold changed, since
it began the line with bold quotes.
I modified the rule If there are more than 5 apostrophes in a row, assume
they're all text except for the last 5. rule to make the 6 apostrophes produce
the original bbold/bbboldibolditalics/i/b. It still spits single
quotes to match open italic and bold but general behavior seems closer to what
a human would expect. See the new 'Six quotes' parsertest for all the cases.

Depends on: 17806

In bug 17806, to address the problem of revision deletions being 'lost' in the
deletion log, filtering the deletion log was preferred to adding a new log. So
here is a request for a filter, maybe working similarly to the filters in
recentchanges: show/hide revision deletions, show/hide page deletions.

The link is to the latest discussion on adding the revdelete right to admins on
enwiki.

(In reply to comment #5)
If the else argument doesn't transfer categories to the current page, it
 shouldn't create conflicts.

And what would be the result of [[Category{{ifincategory: Foo | Bar |:}}Foo]] ?

Another tricky case indeed, if they can't be efficiently handled, then I'd
suggest only to have {{#ifincategory: Foo| value if true }}, and return nothing
if false. Since it would be used to add new things when the page is in the
given category (e.g. for per-category editnotices), there's no major need for
an else argument. I don't think there are tricky cases without it.

Even if this could be done, I'm not sure it would be optimal from a usability
point of view. And I think we could also add a filter for undeletions (had been
proposed in the past), so we could filter by the three log_actions: delete,
restore and revision.
