Do you need *all* the examples of this issue to be reported here, or can a
database query or some other process be used to fix all the places where this
occurred, like what happend at bug 19990?

(In reply to comment #9)
I now see the option to restore the old toolbar from user preferences even
 when
the enhanced toolbar is enabled as default, which is good. But the the
enhanced toolbar was turned off as a default. We still want to keep the
enhanced toolbar as default when a user opt into the beta.

Ah yes, it seems I got one of the settings wrong. The latter setting in comment
#8 should be $wgDefaultUserOptions['usebetatoolbar'] = 1;

You can go ahead and turn on the enhanced toolbar as default and then remove
the try beta. Naoko beat me to the punch, we've got high retention rates
 for
the enhanced toolbar. For the few old fashion types, since they can change
 back, everyone will be happy.

For Rob's convenience:
$wmgUsabilityEnforce = true; // Note that the code associated with this var in

I tried passing various different values to the Has display parameters
property here:

http://smw.referata.com/wiki/Category:Events

(see the page history (or below) for the specific details). However, none of
the combinations that I tried resulted in output of more than one property
here:

http://smw.referata.com/wiki/Special:BrowseData/Events

This is unexpected, because the examples I saw on the mailing list showed
several properties listed with table format. (Actually, I'd like list format,
but the issue is the same).

Whatever I do, I only see one property (the first) listed.

W'sup with that?

When a module is used both as the generator for a query and in the normal
prop, and both limits are set to 'max', the API gives an error because it
tries to add the value to the limits node in the result twice.

For example, in the URL above I am trying to find all the Wikipedia-namespace
pages transcluded onto [[en:WP:BRFA]], along with the revision ID and the
templates each one transcludes.

I noticed this bug recently, and want to add that seems to be a problem with
all the projects except Wikipedia. http://www.en.wikisource.org/ ,
http://www.en.wiktionary.org/ and others at least offer a somewhat informative
error page but they should redirect to their project like Wikipedia does (if it
is for some reason too difficult to do this by fixing DNS, it could be done in
PHP or Javascript of the error page itself). But
http://www.commons.wikimedia.org/ and http://www.meta.wikimedia.org/ don't
offer even that. Note that
http://www.google.com/search?q=%22www.commons.wikimedia.org%22 gives a 100,000
results.

Note some of those people who have tried to the enhanced toolbar (by some
people, I mean me specificly, and only me) had the toolbar not work whatsoever,
and havn't gotten arround to turning it off. (nor have i gotten arround to
isolating why it doesn't work, or to see if its my fault (quite possibly i have
some js interefering with it. I have a lot of stuff in my personal js) and thus
i havn't gotten arround to filing a bug report. However i can say the enhanced
toolbar does work fine for me on the usability prototype, so the problem seems
wikinews specific).

However considering the original toolbar is quite useless (imho) - turning on
the new one probably is not a bad idea.

Hey!

Does anybody knows why the preview of, for example,
[[b:pt:MediaWiki:Common.js]] shows the source code above the edit box, but the
same still doesn't happens with user js like [[b:pt:Special:MyPage/vector.js]]?

I think the behaviour should at least be consistent:
* Shows the code in both cases; or
* Doesn't shows the code in both cases.

In my opinion, the currently behaviour is confusing...

Helder

[Bug 21318] New: Switch new user welcome message to manually hidden talk page box

2009-10-27 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=21318

Summary: Switch new user welcome message to manually hidden talk
page box
   Product: Wikimedia
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: Normal
 Component: General/Unknown
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: equazc...@gmail.com

Currently, newly registered users are shown Wikipedia's welcome message
(MediaWiki:Welcomecreation), including general rules, only once. When the user
navigates away, the message is lost. Based on the discussion at
Wikipedia:Village_pump_(proposals)#MediaWiki:Welcomecreation_-.3E_Welcome_notice,
there is consensus that this functionality should be changed, as currently the
welcome message likely goes unnoticed by most users, since it so easy to
inadvertently remove it from view permanently.

The message should instead become a box that appears when the user views their
talk page; It should NOT, however, be an actual talk page posting; ie. the
welcome message should not actually cause creation of the talk page, and links
to the new user's talk page should remain red. The message should be
dynamically hideable via a dismiss this message link. The message should be
placed either below the talk page's main header (its title), or in the
sitenotice location; whichever seems more technically and aesthetically
feasible.

Some technical changes the proposer foresaw in the discussion are as follows:
a) turn off MediaWiki:Welcomecreation
b) create MediaWiki:Welcomecreation2 as the new welcome message, to be shown to
new users at the top of their user talk page until they dismiss the message
c) turn MediaWiki:Welcomecreation2 on

Thanks! Please post any questions if further clarification is required.

[Bug 21319] New: Infinite recursion in Thread::loadAllData()

2009-10-27 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=21319

   Summary: Infinite recursion in Thread::loadAllData()
   Product: MediaWiki extensions
   Version: any
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: blocker
  Priority: Normal
 Component: LiquidThreads
AssignedTo: agarr...@wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: tstarl...@wikimedia.org

Eugene reported on IRC that posting to LiquidThreads, e.g. using reply, was
totally broken and left the ajax spinner going forever. He indicated that this
had been occurring since some time earlier today.

Investigation showed that this was a segfault in
api.php?action=threadactionthreadaction=reply..., with a backtrace showing an
infinite recursion of Thread::loadAllData(). A trivial call to loadAllData()
from eval.php did not lead to infinite recursion, so it's likely that the
problem only occurs after local data is updated.

I've rolled back the latest merge from trunk (r58164) pending a permanent fix.

[Bug 21320] New: API: upload-by-url attempts remote fetch even when upload-by-url is disabled

2009-10-27 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=21320

Summary: API: upload-by-url attempts remote fetch even when
upload-by-url is disabled
   Product: MediaWiki
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Normal
 Component: API
AssignedTo: roan.katt...@gmail.com
ReportedBy: matthew.brit...@btinternet.com
CC: bryan.tongm...@gmail.com, vasi...@gmail.com,
soxre...@gmail.com

On en.wikipedia, I made an API query with the following parameters:

action = upload
format = xml
filename = Test.jpg
token = [some token]
url = http://www.example.com/something.jpg

The upload failed with the following result:

?xml version=1.0?apierror code=amp;lt;Error sending request: #28
connect() timed out!amp;gt; info=fetchfileerror //api

I repeated this with a local test wiki and got this:

?xml version=1.0?apierror code=An HTTP error occured: HTTP/1.1 404 Not
Found info=fetchfileerror //api

and with a packet sniffer I see that indeed a GET /something.jpg HTTP request
was sent to www.example.com.

I then repeated this with url set to an image that actually exists,
http://www.google.com/intl/en_ALL/images/logo.gif - now my test wiki gives

?xml version=1.0?apiupload upload_session_key=260384685 //api

which I think (the documentation is pretty much non-existent) is supposed to
mean the upload succeeded, but in fact no file was uploaded.

Problem: Both my local wiki and en.wikipedia have $wgAllowCopyUploads set to
false, and in neither case did the account I attempted this from have the
upload_by_url right.

MediaWiki shouldn't be going anywhere near the remote server unless the user
has permission to upload by URL -- otherwise anyone with normal upload access
can spam API queries with 'url' set to some huge file, and make the server eat
its own bandwidth.

This sounds like a good idea, as long as it's possible to display 50 or 100
edits at a time for enormous histories, and it's possible to select all edits
besides one or two (like the invert selection button). I assume that the edits
that are left behind would be placed in the archive table so they wouldn't
clutter the page history.

I always use selective undeletion for history merges, so this wouldn't
entireley supercede the selective undeletion feature. With my method, where A
is the current title of the page and b is the one with the edits that need to
be merged, I history merge like this: move page A to page B (Page B is deleted
to make way for the page move), undelete old content edits of B, move B back to
A, undelete remaining redirect edits of B. Maybe I'm over-fussy, but I don't
like adding irrelevant redirect edits to an article's page history.
