Currently the PDF rendering software (mwlib.rl) does not support right-to-left
languages. The main reason is that the underlying PDF toolkit (reportlab) does
not support RTL languages. The good news is that just recently there has been
some progress in adding RTL support by the reportlab community. I believe that
it will probably take another month or two until RTL support will be available.

Enabling the collection extension on he.wikipedia.org should therefore be
postponed.

[Bug 21551] Allow configuring the Squid response chars limit on purges

I disagree.

Varnish allows you to configure whichever output you wish to receive for a
PURGE command, and it also adds information about the purge (HTTP response text
attached). I realize this might be non-standard, but I believe that keeping
MW's code portable (or easy to integrate with different solutions) is a much
more meaningful advantage than enforcing standard usage of other products in
the market.

Another approach would be to design and implement a similiar VarnishUpdate
class, but this might be an overkill.

What do you think?

To test what was happening about size etc, I made a much reduced size image,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Phenakistoscope_small_animation.gif
but that one froze, too, when I tried to display it with px specification.

The only way I could get it to display without freezing was to upload an image
that was exactly the size that was needed. (I.E., if you used px at all, the
image froze.)

I think you're missing the point. The response size limit is a useless paranoid
hack for Squid, and is harmful for Varnish, and so should be removed for both.
Adding a configuration variable is pointless if the whole code block can be
deleted.

I have found the skins to be difficult to edit. I ended up rewriting the skins
class to utilize smarty for easier skin creation and control. Is this a change
that MediaWiki would like to have submitted back for consideration in future
releases?

I don't think we want to go back to templating, but having the ability to use

I think that [[Cpecial:WhatLinksHere]], categories, and other navigational
tools such as navboxes ([[Template:Navbox]]) adequately cover this need for the
simple case. If you need a more powerful relational analysis system, one of
the SemanticMediaWiki extensions should provide that functionality. I don't
think there's anything we need to add to core here.

https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22089

   Summary: Import sources for cr.wiki
   Product: MediaWiki
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: All
   URL: http://cr.wikipedia.org
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: Normal
 Component: Export/Import
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: lebo.bel...@gmail.com

Hi. I am operating as a temporary administrato on the Cree Wikipedia.

I used the Special:Import function which produced this error:
No transwiki sources have been defined and direct history uploads are disabled.

Could I please request sources be defined, and may I also have direct history
uploads re-enabled, limited to Sysop as I believe they are anyhow. Import
sources are en and fr wiki.

Thanks

Amqui

I'm leaving this as resolved at the moment but thats just because I'm not sure
if its still waiting to be checked? I filed another version of this yesterday
because we're still having the same problem :(
