[Bug 22328] New: Annotations too difficult to reach in reading and much too difficult to write
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22328 Summary: Annotations too difficult to reach in reading and much too difficult to write Product: MediaWiki extensions Version: any Platform: All OS/Version: All Status: NEW Severity: enhancement Priority: Normal Component: OmegaWiki AssignedTo: rob...@rhl.me.uk ReportedBy: fia...@fiable.biz Presently, one has to click on every meaning of an expression to see its annotation. Moreover it's not possible to add an annotation at the same time one adds a new translation: one has to validate first, then to click twice and wait to enter an annotation, then to validate again, to click twice and wait to enter a second annotation about the same word, etc.. It's boring, long and often not done. Some annotations are crucial. It should be much easier to read and write annotations. To simplify, I suggest this: 1) pages of expressions would not contain translations in plain, but would contain all the annotations, in plain (not in a sub-window to open by clicking). 2) pages of definedMeanings (DM) would contain the translations but not the annotations in plain. DM pages and expression pages would be of different background color. When searching a term, the reader would first see the expression page. If he wants the translations, he will choose the meaning he is interested in, click, and get to the DM page. 3) The writer of a translation would be led from the DM page to a page reminding him the English word and definition if any, the original one if not translated in English, and he would be invited to enter all the annotations at once, in one page. 4) The writer of a new DM would do the same from a 0 result search page of from an expression page, except that he would of course not be reminded the English word and DM. He would be invited to define his new DM in English if possible. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are watching all bug changes. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l

[Bug 18758] API read of watchlist's wl_notificationtimestamp
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18758 Roan Kattouw roan.katt...@gmail.com changed: What|Removed |Added Status|RESOLVED|REOPENED CC||roan.katt...@gmail.com Resolution|FIXED | --- Comment #6 from Roan Kattouw roan.katt...@gmail.com 2010-01-31 10:03:06 UTC --- The notification timestamp is not quite a 'last seen' timestamp, it's the timestamp of the first unread revision, or NULL if there are none. I'm vary of allowing users to set it to any old value because I don't know what will happen when its value is invalid (lemme look that up). Use case #1 concerns screen scraping while getting page contents and diffs is possible through the API (I'm pretty sure this doesn't touch wl_notificationtimestamp). If your screen scraping unnecessarily and these kinds of issues come up, they're your problem. Use case #2 sounds valid ('mark as read'). It can easily be done by visiting the page in the background with AJAX, although I agree that's a hack and the API should offer a 'mark as read' feature. That, however, would set the timestamp to NULL, not to an arbitrary client-provided timestamp. Use case #3 is a good one. I think this feature should be in core and exposed through the UI as well as the API. Use case #4 is based on a misunderstanding of what the notificationtimestamp does: setting it in the future will not prevent it from showing up in the watchlist, it'll just show it as having been changed in the future and confuse the code showing you the diff. I'll reopen this bug for use case #2, and I suggest you open a new one for #3 (specifically for the mark as unread feature to be available in core). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are watching all bug changes. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l

My original deployment scripts placed skins/*.php on the mediawiki serving domain and the subdirectories on the static, but that resulted in this error: Warning: filemtime() [function.filemtime]: stat failed for /home/cffc/webapps/htdocs/w/skins/common/wikibits.js in /home/cffc/webapps/htdocs/w/includes/OutputPage.php on line 301 This looks like a new feature designed to force reloading of some media components if the file has changed, which seems to be half baked — only wikibits.js triggers this code path; ajax.js and the skin related media is unaffected — and duplicates what a properly configured web server should be capable of doing by itself. I would prefer a move towards better support for serving static media on separate domains, where far future expiry times plus the query argument revision should be sufficient to trigger a cache update. (Though one revision flag for the mediawiki common media, and a per skin revision would be a better combination.) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 22332] New: MW memcached driver should fall back to PHP's built-in memcached module if available
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22332 Summary: MW memcached driver should fall back to PHP's built-in memcached module if available Product: MediaWiki Version: 1.16-svn Platform: All OS/Version: All Status: NEW Severity: enhancement Priority: Normal Component: General/Unknown AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org ReportedBy: roan.katt...@gmail.com Presumably, PHP's memcached module (which caused the memcached class to be renamed to MWMemcached because of a naming conflict) is faster than our PHP implementation and supports the same actions. We should write a wrapper class around the built-in memcached class that coexists with MWMemcached and have wfGetCache() choose which one to instantiate based on class_exists('memcached') . In the longer term, we should rewrite this horrible infrastructure and have all cache interface classes inherit one abstract class, and move wfGetCache()'s functionality to a static method in that abstract class. We could also have each cache interface class implement isAvailable() so we can move the class_exists('memcached') check to a more logical place. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 22334] New: Footer message list should be editable through a message page
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22334 Summary: Footer message list should be editable through a message page Product: MediaWiki Version: unspecified Platform: All OS/Version: All Status: NEW Severity: enhancement Priority: Normal Component: User interface AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org ReportedBy: wiki.nihilt...@gmail.com On enwiki we were noticing some issues with the footer, namely, that under Vector we get an awkward linebreak after the Contact us link. The problem comes from Vector not simply concatenating the footer messages and their li elements in one long ul, but instead having the Privacy policy and About Wikipedia, etc. in a separate ul after the copyright boilerplate. Currently this is because the list of elements to put in the footer seems to be hardcoded somewhere. When looking for a way to address the problem as visible in Vector, Prodego and I realized that it would probably require developer intervention, and we agreed that the best solution would probably be to allow the list of footer elements to be defined in its own message, e.g. [[MediaWiki:Footer]], with a $1 $2 $3 foobar setup or some such; I thought that the sidebar's setup (i.e. [[MediaWiki:Sidebar]]) would be good to emulate in that regard. This should be an uncontroversial change, and it'll replace a current hack (the contact us code present in enwiki's [[MediaWiki:Wikimedia-copyright]]) with a general solution that will accomodate future changes. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 14862] Allow global renaming of global users
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14862 SJ spidermanneq...@yahoo.com changed: What|Removed |Added CC||spidermanneq...@yahoo.com --- Comment #9 from SJ spidermanneq...@yahoo.com 2010-02-01 07:13:39 UTC --- This seems like an important small feature. Related fixes: right now when trying to rename a user via the above process one gets a warning during every rename, suggesting this isn't the 'right way' to do a global rename. Instead, the rename interface could simply ask whether this is a one-wiki-only rename or a global rename, and try to carry out the action accordingly. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 13172] EXIF handling ignores tags with Count = 1 (such as GPS coordinates)
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13172 --- Comment #26 from Ilmari Karonen nos...@vyznev.net 2010-02-01 07:47:11 UTC --- Sure, go ahead. Actually, I'd thought of doing it that way too, but hadn't got around to trying it yet. (For numerical accuracy, it might be slightly better to work internally in units of 1/1000 degrees and then just set the value to sprintf(%.0f/1000, num). Or, better yet, make the denominator a class constant or something.) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug.
