MZMcBride is correct, the wiki is only open to registered members in the
chapter. Anyone can make an account but to upload or edit pages, one has to be
in the group medlem (member) which is manually checked in our register.

[Bug 24128] New: Minor improvements of help in toolbar

2010-06-26 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=24128

Summary: Minor improvements of help in toolbar
   Product: MediaWiki extensions
   Version: any
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: Normal
 Component: UsabilityInitiative
AssignedTo: tpars...@wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: listenle...@gmail.com
CC: roan.katt...@gmail.com, ngau...@wikimedia.org,
amil...@wikimedia.org

There are some suggestions on de-wikipedia to improve the help in the toolbar:
* Links: Explain the easy thing first, so exchange the two lines explaining
internal links.
* Headings: Newbies shouldn't create 1st level headings, so don't explain them
how to do it.
* References: Explain how to use the normal ref-tag without the name-parameter
first. Perhaps the name-parameter shouldn't be explained at all in this quick
help.
* Discussion: It could be confusing that the signature button inserts --,
while the help says , so it is suggested to include the two dashes in the
help as well. The mediawiki standard doesn't include a link to the user's
discussion page iirc, so the help shouldn't either. Projects where this is
changed can adapt the help locally.

  $wgAllowZipFilesWhichCouldCompromiseMyUsers ?

I'd like to have Special:Upload ask to remove the (apparently useless) zip
  trailer.
Would that not damage the files if people wanted to download and reopen them,
some systems are very pedantic about the formatting of their files?

If I understand correctly, the OPC trailer stores information that can not be
saved in the 2003 format. So it is a method of creating a 2003 compatible file
that still has all the 2007 and later features of the original file when opened
in 2007 or later. Actually kinda handy I have to say.

but yes, the idea would be $wgAllowUploadsOfZipFilesBecauseItrustMyUploaders or
something.

some systems are very pedantic about the formatting of their files?

The newer Word still need to open pre-2007 files which don't have the trailer
so no backwards compatibility issues there.
The provided trialer contains a font Theme. That won't be a fundamental
feature in most cases but some users might need it.

Note that while I support file stripping in certain cases, it should always
happen with the uploader consent.

Note that while I support file stripping in certain cases, it should always
 happen with the uploader consent.
And the user should have the possibility to upload the unstripped file (if
allowed by the site administrator).

A generic upload post processing API would be nice; other things like image
rotation from EXIF info falls in that category as well.

[Bug 24129] New: update db table langlinks to new format (because of problem with zh-classical)

In db table langlinks ll_lang still has type varchar(10). since Mediawiki 1.10
this has changed to varbinary(20)

Every bot framework using API must use a workaround because of different values
of zh-classical.

On the sitematrix and in sourcecode zh-classcial must be used and this value is
shown at
http://de.wikipedia.org/w/api.php?action=querymeta=siteinfosiprop=interwikimap

The langlinks table cut this after ten characters. Therefore zh-classic
(without -al) is shown at all results from langlinks table (e.g.

It seems like superscript text is accompanied by hidden characters that break

For instance, have a look here http://he.wikipedia.org/wiki/ויקיפדיה at the

Adding the customization from

problem when using chrome or FF, but in IE8 this customization causes display

Hi,

The attached patch (for 1.15.4, but should fit 1.16 fairly easily) expands the
documentation for maintenance/dumpBackup.php.

Notably, it also hints to the administrator that --conf can be used to specify
the patch to LocalSettings.php if it's somewhere unexpected, instead of just
crying and running away.

However, dumpBackup.php script still fails magnificently if $wgDBadmin.. are
not set. It should warn and fall back on $wgDB.., since that'll probably be
sufficient in most hosting environments.

After running the web-based initial configuration of mediawiki

and instructed me to place it in /etc/mediawiki:

~$ ls -l /etc/mediawiki/LocalSettings.php

/etc/mediawiki/LocalSettings.php

This file contains MySQL passwords and should therefore not be world-readable.

I notice that README.Debian suggests changing this, but the file
should not be created world-readable in the first place.
