(may need another bug) This was filed as bug 31432 and then duped to this bug. To accomplish this securely, we would need to do the following: * When logging in over HTTPS and the pref is set, set the login cookies securely (as always) but set an insecure cookie that specifies that the user wants HTTPS * On every HTTP request, check for the presence of this cookie and redirect to HTTPS if so. This also requires that the name of this cookie be added to the XVO header. It appears that Liangent (in filing bug 31432) and Ryan (through an in-person conversation with me) both came up with the same plan separately. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. See bug 28750, bug 22142 which make references to it. That's right, WikiEditor has a proof-of-concept implementation of side-by-side preview (well, it's really a preview tab: the preview isn't displayed side by side but you can switch between wikitext, preview and diff modes using tabs at the top of the edit box. But it essentially addresses the same problem) but it was never polished to acceptable quality. IIRC the preview tab works reasonably well, but the diff tab had some issues, and both had issues concerning new page creations. The code is still there, though, and probably still works as well as it did when it was abandoned (about a year and a half ago), so anyone who's interested could jump right in and polish it. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. The WikiEditor toolbar's interface is a bit better in this regard, but not much. https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31499 --- Comment #5 from Roan Kattouw roan.katt...@gmail.com 2011-10-25 14:21:04 UTC --- (In reply to comment #4) I am using 1.17.0. Firebug gives the buggy results: $.escapeRE(http://mywiki.com/wiki/$1;); http\:\/\/mywiki\.com\/wiki\/\$\1 When I hit English Wikipedia and check against 1.18.0wmf, I get correct results: $.escapeRE(http://mywiki.com/wiki/$1;); http://mywiki\.com/wiki/\$1; There might still be a problem on English Wikipedia however, because of the following use case: 0. Visit en.wikipedia.org and edit any page. 1. Click the Link button in the editor. 2. Enter http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dog as the link and click Insert link. 3. You *should* get a pop-up dialog that says The URL you specified looks like it was intended as a link to another wiki page. Do you want to make it an internal link? (message MediaWiki:Wikieditor-toolbar-tool-link-lookslikeinternal), however no dialog appears. Hah, that's probably because wgServer is protocol-relative now: mw.config.get('wgServer') //en.wikipedia.org -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 31629] API uses weird * (star) key for the content property in JSON and PHP serialized formats
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31629 --- Comment #4 from Roan Kattouw roan.katt...@gmail.com 2011-10-25 14:54:52 UTC --- (In reply to comment #3) It'd be interesting to figure out why it was picked (perhaps there's a logical, rational reason, you can check SVN), but hindsight is always going to be 20/20. Sometimes you have to make do with a bit of imperfection. If the use of * is causing actual bugs somewhere, that'd be a different story. When the API was designed in 2006, XML was cool, so the API was primarily designed for XML output. Other output formats seem to have been added as an afterthought. In the years that followed, the world (or most of it, anyway), realized XML is an inflexible piece of garbage and moved to JSON. However, we're still stuck with the legacy of having to support XML which means that 1) we can't do certain things in JSON because they can't be translated to XML and 2) we have things like the * thing that look good in XML and look like crap in every other format on the planet. I used to think the multi-format thing was cool, but I am now of the opinion that an API 2.0 should output JSON only. It's the only format worth bothering with, the others all suck to varying degrees. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 31944] New: EXIF from png poorly extracted
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31944 Web browser: --- Bug #: 31944 Summary: EXIF from png poorly extracted Product: MediaWiki Version: unspecified Platform: All OS/Version: All Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: Unprioritized Component: Images and files AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org ReportedBy: mediazi...@malenki.ch CC: bawolff...@gmail.com, bryan.tongm...@gmail.com Classification: Unclassified EXIF data from png files get poorly extracted. I've cropped a jpg to its relevant content. The result I saved as png. From the original file I copied the exifdata with exiftool -tagsFromFile Since I saw that the EXIF data of the png file sown at the description page was quite limited I uploaded the file as jpg - at which the EXIF is shown in all it's beauty. Please compare the result: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Museum_in_Frashër,_Albania.png http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Museum_in_Frashër,_Albania_tmp.jpg I prefer to save worked photographs not as jpg to avoid loss of quality which would happen at saving it is (as lossy compressed) jpg. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 31944] EXIF from png poorly extracted
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31944 Derk-Jan Hartman hart...@videolan.org changed: What|Removed |Added CC||hart...@videolan.org --- Comment #1 from Derk-Jan Hartman hart...@videolan.org 2011-10-25 19:02:12 UTC --- PNG does not support Exif. exiftool will try to convert as much as possible to PNG text comments or to XMP, but most of the information is lost. As exiftool explains: http://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/ A special ExifTool option allows copying tags from one file to another. The command-line syntax for doing this is -tagsFromFile SRCFILE. Any tags specified after this option on the command line are extracted from source file and written to the destination file. If no tags are specified, then all writable tags are copied. This option is very simple, yet very powerful. Depending on the formats of the source and destination files, some of tags read may not be valid in the destination file, in which case they aren't written. It might be that exiftool is writing the whole exif block into some PNG part, but then that is not standard, and might not be recognizable by our software. bawolff might now. I'll see if he can take a look. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 31945] New: Enhanced watchlist freezes the browser for 30 seconds after loading a big list (the time is relative to the number of entries displayed)

[Bug 30401] Create option to disable interface animations
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=30401 --- Comment #29 from Saibo saibotr...@arcor.de 2011-10-25 19:27:18 UTC --- (In reply to comment #25) (In reply to comment #23) I have never seen a collapsed watchlist, you must have some gadget or script enabled that makes it collapse, and the slowness is caused by that script. It is a feature which comes with MediaWiki, and it should be working for everyone. For its documentation, see: * [[meta:Help:Enhanced recent changes]] * [[meta:Help:Watchlist#Expanded_Watchlist]] Yes, it is this watchlist. Cannot imagine a watchlist without... Well, if it is a separate thing then we should open up a bug (if there is not one already). Anyway - done (to get things forward here): [[:bugzilla:31945]] now. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug.
