[Bug 33442] New: Creating pages creates an automatic summary, but still prompts for summary.
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=33442 Web browser: --- Bug #: 33442 Summary: Creating pages creates an automatic summary, but still prompts for summary. Product: MediaWiki Version: unspecified Platform: All OS/Version: All Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: Unprioritized Component: Page editing AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org ReportedBy: johnnymrni...@gmail.com Classification: Unclassified When a user sets their preferences to prompt for edit summaries, page creation still causes a prompt, even though a summary is automatically generated. Contrast this to redirecting a page, which does not ask for a summary. Desirable behavior would be for both to avoid the prompt. Surely, there can not be any less ambiguous edit then creating a page. [Bug 167] Use a dedicated interface for adding interwiki/category links, not wikitext
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=167 --- Comment #31 from Bawolff bawolff...@gmail.com 2011-12-31 11:24:46 UTC --- (In reply to comment #30) That means our voice can be dumped into rubbish bin? Then what's the point of having the vote? Its been publicly stated in several places for quite a long time that votes are not taken in to consideration when deciding where development effort is put (Popular opinion is taken into consideration somewhat, but not in the form of votes, generally). The intention behind the voting module is to allow people to have favourites lists of bugs for easy tracking. Many considerations go into prioritizing bugs (or from what I understand, I myself generally don't go around prioritizing bugs). How many people are affected, how severely they are affected, how much people want the new behaviour, how difficult the bug is to fix (especially, relative to how many problems the bug is causing), etc. In any case, its perfectly possible to search the bugzilla db by number of votes (Even though we generally don't look at votes, some people do look at what is voted high when looking for things to fix). Artificially inflating the priority would just make the field useless, it won't make the bug any more important. (About 50% of bugs are considered super-important to someone somewhere in the universe, if everyone set there favourite bug to 'highest', it would just make the priority field meaningless). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 835] syntax to transclude a page without the containing page inheriting categories, interlanguage links
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=835 Bawolff bawolff...@gmail.com changed: What|Removed |Added Attachment #5696|0 |1 is obsolete|| --- Comment #68 from Bawolff bawolff...@gmail.com 2011-12-31 11:42:34 UTC --- Created attachment 9788 -- https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/attachment.cgi?id=9788 Add {{nometa:some templat|arg1|arg2|}} syntax to disable transcluding categories and interlanguage links Hmm, this is difficult to do, since the category/interlanguage links are expanded after templates are expanded. Maybe the new parser work would make doing such things easier (I'm not paying attention at all to whats happening with that stuff, so I have no idea if it'd change things or not). The best way of implementing this I could think of: *Save all the interlangs and categories *Parse the template (in a recursiveTagParse type of way), and put it in the page at right spot *Reset the interlangs/categories to the way they were before doing that. So this patch adds a new parser func that looks more like its modifying the template call then being an actual parser func. It looks like {{nometa:Some template|args...}} (I didn't use a hash to make it look like int:, raw:, msgnw: etc). Personally I like the name nocat: better, but nometa: is more generic in terms of applying to interlanguage links too. One minor issue is that it also stops tracking categories. I also wasn't sure if it should deal with {{DISPLAYTITLE:}}, {{DEFAULTSORTKEY:...}}, __NOTOC__, etc. As it stands, my patch lets those types of behaviour switches through. It feels mildly icky to save and reset parts of the parser output, and I'm generally just nervous about things that touch the parser (Although this doesn't directly touch it really), hence I'm posting this as a patch instead of directly committing. (as an aside, if its decided this approach isn't an acceptable solution, this can trivially be turned into an extension for those who really want it). So, thoughts? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 6220] Shared repositories support for Special:WantedFiles
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6220 Gregor Hagedorn g.m.haged...@gmail.com changed: What|Removed |Added CC||g.m.haged...@gmail.com --- Comment #18 from Gregor Hagedorn g.m.haged...@gmail.com 2011-12-31 13:46:29 UTC --- (In reply to comment #12) r77725 at least makes images on shared repos show up as struck-out bluelinks instead of redlinks in the output. It does nothing to fix the actual problem, but at least now you can visually tell the false positives apart from the actually missing files. Given that this has been achieved, I wonder whether the bug cannot be closed by simply adding a filter option to hide the struck-out bluelinks? I have no insight into the code, but it seems the filter could be added with very little performance loss, provided we don't expect the precise number of returns and the filter automatically switches to a high browsing interval (2000-5000), and adds an explanation like: 2000/ACTUAL NUMBER files have been found that are not present in the local wiki. Of these, some or many are available in a shared file repository. These are not shown below. As a result, the number or missing files shown is variable. This may be not ideal, but clearly better than the present consistent, but rather useless behavior. Who is likely to browser through 100s of pages of struck-out blue links to find the truly missing red-links? In fact on metawiki nobody seem to be doing this, so many broken links exist... -- Mark: you changed priority from Highest to Low without arguing - I think it would be better interaction with the community if you could argue or comment why. However, the basic assumption that it is easier to work by page than by file is, in my opinion, erroneous. A missing file often occurs on dozens of pages. Look at Metawiki (there for multilinguality mostly). In other cases it is because repo files are renamed without keeping redirects. Or, out of old habit, deleted and re-uploaded under a different name. It requires writing a new parser in PHP for (another) non-standard format. If we instead switched to XML, not only could we use existing XML parsers in PHP, but also the obstacles to (JavaScript) gadgets like bug 27157 would be lowered immensely, and some potential applications further down the line (print formatting, data extraction, etc.) could also profit. Perhaps we could do this, and then also have wantedpages display the results of the category (basically fixing two things in one then because a category would be easier if any bots wanted to access it I would assume). No, bots can access querypages just as easy as categorymembers. Aside from the QueryPage system not supporting this mechanism efficiently, it could also lead to empty results. This is a very expensive query that is cached. [Bug 33446] Add a filter to Special:WantedFiles to remove the false positives
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=33446 Gregor Hagedorn g.m.haged...@gmail.com changed: What|Removed |Added Status|RESOLVED|REOPENED Resolution|WONTFIX | --- Comment #3 from Gregor Hagedorn g.m.haged...@gmail.com 2011-12-31 19:19:07 UTC --- My non-programmer analysis is that the present page is not very useful or at least unnecessarily overloaded with 99.9% recognizable false positive. Adding a simple CSS display:none, supported by the proposed message would resolve the usability problem, while not adding any extra server load. One could probably already write a lidel CSS rule with display:none, provided some additional supporting class that limits this to Special:WantedFiles. Technically, the request is to add a class on the OL that identifies which special page it is (currently it says only special) and add a simple CSS rule. The current html is: li dela title=File:Redirectltr.png href=/wiki/File:Redirectltr.pngFile:Redirectltr.png/a/del rlm;lrm; (a title=Special:WhatLinksHere href=/w/index.php?title=Special:WhatLinksHeretarget=File%3ARedirectltr.png689 links/a) /li I fail to see the drawback. It seems to me, that without any expense to the WMF servers the browser could do the work that currently the human eye is supposed to do. The problem with bug 6220 is that some believe Special:WantedFiles should disappear altogether, or a least it has Low (MAH) or Lowest (Nemo_bis) priority - meaning its likelihood of being fixed is very small (or at least whichever multiple of 6.5 years it is unfixed so far you like). The present proposal means to be a no-expense stop-gap, not a huge permanent solution. [Bug 18861] Search should index template expansion
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18861 --- Comment #14 from orenbochman orenboch...@gmail.com 2011-12-31 22:23:17 UTC --- As I see it the problem is that the search indexes are based on analyzing the wiki source and updated page source and the indexer never sees the final output. The simplest fix, mentioned above, was my original plan. Which would be to fetch the generated output from cache. This would solve the wikisource use case of the page namespace and the Wiktionary use case where text such as inflection table is generated by a template. functionally it can be implemented as follows: 1. Adding to the index a wikiRenderedField to the indexer. 2. This field which would be tokenized but not stored. 3. The analysis could be done using Apache Tika. 4. In some scenarios the field would be the size of a book and may adversely affect the ranking of documents throughout the index. (a situation where 1% of the documents contain 95% percent of the search lexicon) The alternative depends on the progress with the new parser. If it is successful and can be used as a library it would be integrated into search as a new WikiSourceAnalyzer which will capture the full details of both source and output with many side benefits. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l
