Whatever the case, I think your reports have been great and very useful. (In reply to comment #0) error reports if something goes wrong. Google does it (e.g. on Google docs; they even have an error report tool where you can select the the element showing-up wrongly), The comparison to Google. So, that report tool is nice indeed, but lets not forget what it cost Google to get that: * A lot of developer time and effort into creating such a feedback mechanism. It may look simple, but I've looked into it a few times and there is a LOT of stuff going on to make it work. Certainly not a small feature. * They (most likely) have a communications team that deals with all these reports and have (semi-automated?) applications that organize all the massive amounts of input with filters to look for patterns and/or similar reports etc.. And then forward/convert some to the issue tracker of their developers. * They don't have to deal with the fact that feedback in the wiki context is not as easy to deal with as feedback in the context of a service from a company. The reason is because, on a wiki, feedback is usually about the content and for the community, not about the software. And even then, in our case the software in question can be software developed locally in a gadget, as an extension, or from MediaWiki core. So there's a lot of factors to deal with. The simplest way to incorporate this on the short-term would be to extend the Feedback Dashboard. But that would still send it to the community.. --- Also, bug 35333 is (currently) about catching exceptions. In general the kinds of errors that yield useful bug reports are not the kind of errors that throw exceptions. Because an application should never throw exceptions, and when it does it is usually something the application can't do anything about (e.g database connection). An app should take care of any and all error cases and report them to the user in an understandable way - whether or not with an option to report the error (depending on the type of error). Japanese statements do not start with が, but needs subject prior to が. Is it possible to put subject into page history like log? I think that there is originally an inconsistency between move and protect in page history even in English. Recently the logging framework was renewed to contain the performer everywhere.
Looks like protect does not use the Logentry-{type}-{action} format yet.

This is a security-related bug in the Extension:NetworkAuth.
The problem is that the extension does not to match IP ranges correctly and
thus authenticates IP addresses that do not belong to the specified IP range.
Both the IP address that the extension gets via wfGetIP() and the IP range that
is specified in LocalSettings.php are transformed to hex numbers via
IP::toHex(). Afterwards the obtained IP adress is compared to the range to
determine whether the address is in the range.
Here is the somewhat simplified code. parsedRange is an array containing the
lower and upper limits of the range.
$ip = wfGetIP();
$hex = IP::toHex( $ip );
if ( $hex = IP::toHex( $parsedRange[0] )
$hex = IP::toHex( $parsedRange[1] ))
{

Unfortunately, the function IP::toHex() does *not* return a hex number, but a
string containing the hex digits (e.g. IP::toHex(46.115.22.119) -
2E771673) *without* the leading 0x. This works fine in most cases, as the
string is implicitly typecast to a number and compared afterwards.
However, in the case that the string of the IP range contains only decimal
digits (e.g. IP::toHex(129.69.120.0) - 81457800), this fails
spectacularly, as in the one case, it interprets the string as a hex number,
and in the other case as a dec number. In the above case, this means that
IP::toHex(46.115.22.119) IP::toHex(129.69.120.0) == true
This bug report is made problematic by the fact that at the moment I cannot
even find the current code of the extension, as all Download links on
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:NetworkAuth
seem to be broken. I am willing to provide a patch when anyone can tell me
where to find the repo containing the current code of the extension.

The proposed fix to this bug is to explicitly cast the transformed IP address
to a number by using hexdec() like:
