[Bug 38475] anonymous actions being identified as coming from the feedback tool
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=38475 --- Comment #5 from Fut.Perf. fut.p...@googlemail.com 2012-08-16 07:24:56 UTC --- Just pasting my original bug description from the duplicate filing in here, because I think it's a bit clearer: When an anon user marks somebody else's feedback post as useful or non-useful, their action is shown in the activity log not under their IP address, but under the generic name Article Feedback V5, e.g. Article Feedback V5 marked this post as helpful on 12:58, 14 August 2012. This is bad, because it implies that Article Feedback V5 is some kind of uniform central authority that judges feedback posts. To solve this problem, we propose an 'Add your feedback' button at the top right corner of the feedback page (in the same place as where the survey button used to be), as proposed in this mockup from Pau Giner: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/30377416/prototypes/feedback-tool/article-feedback/add/article-feedback-page-add-step2.png From a development purpose, we seem to have two options: 1) simply re-use the same code we already built for the overlay mode we used before from the 'Improve this page' links. That code has been fully tested and I suspect it should be really easy to port it over to the feedback page; 2)use a single-screen form that shows all the feedback form fields together at once (instead of spread out over multiple screens), as proposed by Pau. I leave it up to Matthias to let us know if it's easy or hard to create the single-screen feedback form layout Pau proposed. Ideally, we would aim to spend no more than half a day on this feature -- or hold off. If we decide to go with the single-screen option, I propose these copy changes: * Say 'Add your feedback' instead of 'Improve this page'. * Say 'Add your feedback' instead of 'Add feedback' for the form title. * Consider adding 'in this page' at the end of the question, with a link to the article in a new tab or window: 'Did you find what you were looking for in this article?' * The font size for the '+ Add your feedback' top button could be a bit smaller, so it doesn't dominate the top of the page so much, more like the size of what we now have for the survey button. * I also recommend adding 'your' to make it clear that it's about you. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. The word tag usually has a rather different meaning in other websites. Translators of this extension cannot be expected to be familiar with this jargon. They are likely to translate it using the word for tag in their language and thus confuse the extension's users. The word tag must be replaced in all message by words such as maintenance template, cleanup template, article message template etc. This will be clear to English Wikipedia editors and to everybody else. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. On Safari Version 5.1.7 (6534.57.2), the top left of each menu is aligned with the bottom left of the relative button. So, a big part of the menu is out of the windows. Vertical scrolling that became available when the menu opened does not go far enough (you can scroll, but not enough to display the whole width of the menu). (see screenshot) Same on Chrome Version 21.0.1180.79 On firefox 14.0.1, the right of the menu is aligned with the right of the window. The whole width of the menu is displayed. Our mistake was to share the address from the browser address bar (index.php?title=User:Bedhedaction=edit) instead of the pad address provided within the editor (index.php?title=User%3ABedhedaction=editcollaborate=truepadId=81). This feature is great and very powerful, but perhaps too much. Also, even if I see the benefits of sessions, I wonder if the related use cases are so important, in comparison to the possible UX issues, and also merging issues. On top of my head : multiple sessions should be an advanced option. Users editing one page share only one default pad. By expanding the sessions menu, a user can then click a link that explicitly says Open a new session. Once he did, he then have the relative pad url available. And to conclude, a choice should be made between PAD and SESSION, using two words to say one thing is confusing. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 39414] ULS is unusable when the browser is resized
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=39414 --- Comment #1 from Pau Giner pgi...@wikimedia.org 2012-08-16 11:33:28 UTC --- The main problem is that the general window scroll does not affect the selector (since it is using fixed positioning). Being able to use the global scroll (e.g., using absolute positioning for the selector) will solve the problem. This probably requires to update the positioning logic when the user opens the selector and resizes the window. The other solutions commented introduce some issues: - Making the window movable may make interaction more complex for some cases (e.g., user scrolling the list with a touch device). - Regarding shrinking, the selector already adapts in size to a point before elements start collapsing and language labels are no longer fully displayed. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 36772] Article Feedback - Supporting feedback on help pages
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=36772 --- Comment #6 from Matthias Mullie mmul...@wikimedia.org 2012-08-16 11:43:51 UTC --- Is it possible to automatically show AFT on all help pages? If so, can you send us a link? Yes: I have split up the bucketing per namespace, enabled it on 10% on NS_MAIN % 100% on NS_HELP. This means AFT will automatically appear on all help pages without needing to add aby category to it. I've discussed the CTA1 issue with Siko Bouterse, and she is prepared to go ahead with the feature as it stands today, with the understanding that we only have CTA1 enabled about half the time for readers. Come to think of it, there's an additional check in place making sure that pages that readers have no permission to edit, will not show CTA1. It'll only appear on pages to users that have permissions to edit. Howie also asked if we could make sure to somehow tag feedback for help pages, so we can easily differentiate it from article feedback later on The page_id is being stored in the feedback tables. Joining this with the page table will let us know the namespace the article is in. We don't have to save any more details. How easy would it be to enable AFT on that namespace as well Enabled it on NS_PROJECT (the Wikipedia namespace) now as well, at 0%. It won't automatically show up on any page, unless the whitelisting category is added. Updated commits on Gerrit prototype. Examples: http://prototype.wikimedia.org/release-en/Help:Test - Help page _with_ whitelist - should show AFT http://prototype.wikimedia.org/release-en/Help:Test2 - Help page _without_ whitelist - should show AFT http://prototype.wikimedia.org/release-en/Wikipedia:Test - Project page _with_ whitelist - should show AFT http://prototype.wikimedia.org/release-en/Wikipedia:Test2 - Project page _without_ whitelist - should NOT show AFT -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l

[Bug 13627] The move reason field should be one line only

Why do you want to force users to use interface they are not happy with. I might as well suggest people wanting his multi-lined to use a java script hack. It is bad enough for users to get used to the MediaWiki markup now you want them to learn how to use java script to modify interface. I was being a bit sarcastic in comment 22. I don't want people to modify the interface with javascript. I want the interface to be reasonable and usable to all people. For the same reason I don't want user preferences to trigger subtle changes in the interface (Otherwise we would have 10 billion prefs, and usability should not be a preference, etc). I also do not want to force people to use an interface they are not happy with. However at the same time it is unclear if the change suggested (making it a single line for everyone) would make more or less people unhappy. Thus I feel such a change should be done cautiously. Similarly, I am not neccesarily opposed to making the box one line, adding a drop down for an auto-reason, and having some extra whitespace between the reason fields and the move target field. I think such an approach may possibly make everyone happy. Or perhaps it won't. I suppose we should make mock-ups and talk to the users and so on. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. I advised them to just replace the image file, as we don't really have any method of overriding those images in a skin (short of some really hacky CSS). However, really skins should be able to override such images, as we don't want skin designers patching core. Perhaps some method in the Skin class getURLForImage, core code does stuff like $context-getUser()-getSkin()-getURLForImage( 'redirect arrow' ) which returns the appropriate url of either redirectarrowltr or redirectarrowrtl depending on the directionality of interface (Thus as added bonsu, hiding details of LTR vs RTL from core parts). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 13631] Wikimedia should become an OpenID provider
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13631 Tyler Romeo tylerro...@gmail.com changed: What|Removed |Added CC||tylerro...@gmail.com --- Comment #12 from Tyler Romeo tylerro...@gmail.com 2012-08-16 13:21:25 UTC --- (In reply to comment #0) Too facilitate verification of a Wikimedia user for external tools without the need to give the password to that tool, Wikimedia should become an OpenID provider. (In reply to comment #6) This would also greatly benefit the Toolserver. Right now, toolserver tools can't be personalized without some major effort, and the hassle for users to create an extra account. Using OpenID would also allow simple implementation of opt-in services, which are using nasty workarounds right now. -- OpenID is not the proper tool for either of these. OpenID is made so that users can use their identity on one site to log in to another site. If our aim to allow users to let external tools access their account without a password, OAuth would be the thing to enable. (In reply to comment #4) Created use-case (and learning resource): http://en.wikiversity.org/wiki/Ethical_Management_of_the_English_Language_Wikipedia/Ethics_and_MediaWiki/Use_cases#OpenID_at_Wikimedia:_account.openid.wikimedia.org None of these use cases necessarily involve Wikipedia becoming an OpenID provider. In both use cases, they would both work just fine if the user had an OpenID identity somewhere else. What they really depend on is login using OpenID, which is in bug 9604. From what I can see, there is not really a point of making WMF an OpenID provider. The only reason you would want to is to allow users to log in to other sites (StackOverflow, for instance) using their Wikipedia account as an identity. I do not think this is the intended goal, nor should it be. Login through OpenID, on the other hand, is probably the better solution (along with OAuth). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. Ah, I was thinking back to the days of $wgUser-getSkin(). Clearly I haven't done enough MediaWiki coding recently We probably will need something like this. Though it will be a little tricky with the parser. We'll definitely need to fragment the cache by skin for this. In that area we're going to need to double check the code we use to deal with parser keys. We are really going to want to make sure we have code working that will understand when to fragment and when not to fragment. I think that work is mostly done - we already have lots of code to deal with $parser-getUserLangObj() situation. However in this particular case, I don't think that's even neccesary as redirect pages aren't currently saved in the parser cache (Which is kind of odd given we still seem to parse on each view, guess not too many people visit them) and the arrow is added outside of the parsing process. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 39431] New: SVG is animated shown to user in ugly fashion
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=39431 Web browser: --- Bug #: 39431 Summary: SVG is animated shown to user in ugly fashion Product: MediaWiki Version: 1.20-git Platform: All OS/Version: All Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: Unprioritized Component: File management AssignedTo: bawolff...@gmail.com ReportedBy: bawolff...@gmail.com CC: bawolff...@gmail.com, bryan.tongm...@gmail.com Classification: Unclassified Mobile Platform: --- Example http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Animated_analog_SVG_clock.svg If an svg is animated, that fact is shown in the image metadata box. However its not really formatted very well. Furthermore, all other animated formats we reflect this fact in the little subtitle under the image, not the metadata box. I think we should do that for svgs. Additionally it doesn't seem that the metadata box respects metadata-fields message properly.
