If someone is on a non existent page and logs in from this page, there is more chance it's because he wants to create the page or check the deletion log (which appears in edit mode), than go to another page after. In the last case, the fact he's been offered to edit the page he were on doesn't add any other step to quit the current page. In the first cases, he is exactly where he wanted. I've created a proof-of-concept implementation using the sortEnd.tablesorter
event $.tablesorter fires upon finishing sorting.
The code is essentially five lines:

This means that for every column with class=unsortable ordinal on the header
cell inside a table with class=sortable, the code will re-fill it with
consecutive numbers, starting at 1, when the table is sorted. This allows for
columns which contain ordinal numbers (the original use case).
The solution was discussed on pl.wikipedia's technical village pump[1][2] and
is currently live in its common.js[3]. It's used on a few pages already,
including the aforementioned [[pl:Miasta w Polsce (statystyki)]] and our help
page with a list of interwiki codes, [[pl:Pomoc:Interwiki]].

I have began experimenting with the API versioning (sorry for my 6+ year
absence). There is now a mediawiki-api labs at

post all API versioning development there for everyone to test their client
code and extensions. Contact me if you want to join the project.
Current goal is to have a per module versioning scheme (this is required due to
the modular api nature).

action=query will default to action=query1 - the original implementation, but
will give a warning.
api.php help will show the latest version info
action=paraminfo will handle all versions
among things that will also be added is a structured warning system, e.g.

If that failed, try to find the old trail in the current text with a regex like /s$/. If you find it, emit it. 3. If both of those fail, don't emit a link trail. We would like to only display a notifications badge (or 'growler') next to the
user name in the top right user menu -- instead of next to the current
'Notifications' link, which we plan to remove.
That badge would be shown at all times -- with a red color and a number if you
have new notifications, or grayed out with a zero if you have no new
notifications.
On hover, it would display a tooltip ('Notifications').
This may require a change to MediaWiki Core, as it impacts the user menu that
is shown at the top right of most pages.

We would like to show a 'time elapsed' indicator such as '1 hour ago' or '1 day
ago' instead of the full date in the notifications.
Since MediaWiki core still doesn't support 'time elapsed' indicators ('1 hour
ago'), we can try to use the AFT code or Moodbar code instead. We should also
ask Terry if there any way to give this feature a higher priority, so it gets
incorporated into core sooner.
Note that we would also like to use the saem short timestamps in the
'all-notifications' archive page.
