I'm running SMW bundle 1.8, MW 1.19.3 and SF 2.5.1.
If a field name contains an ampersand, it then does not pick up the associated
property.
For example:

does not pick up the text property in template:

Serializing nested array structures instead (as JSON or using php serialization) would avoid this. wb_changes is accessed by client side code which may be running a different Wikibase version than the repository. The client version may be older or new as the repo version, depending on how and where it is dunning. Preferably this should be done in such a way as to make it easy and efficient to create new items for missing ones. The special page could also do an additional pass to check if the items are complete given the existing sitelinks in the items and the langlinks in the pages.
