This is a problem when editing existing Lua modules, because with the default settings it creates an unholy mixture of tabs and spaces. In addition, when deleting existing groups of four spaces, editors are now required to hit backspace four times rather than just once. Probably the answer is to set pages in the module namespace to use four spaces, and other pages to use tabs. In my wikivoyage user page (https://it.wikivoyage.org/wiki/Utente:Andyrom75)
I've included the following special page:
{{Special:Recentchanges/100,hidepatrolled}} in order to quickly patrol the
change over the site.
When there is at least one unverifed change, everything looks perfect (it can
be seen also from an unlogged browser).
But, when there's nothing to be patrolled, the title of the page change from
Utente:Andyrom75 to Speciale:Recentchanges/100,hidepatrolled. This change
provoke another collateral issue, infact on my righ-side Babylon-bar, the link
Wikivoyage (IT) turn red because it point to a wrong (not-existing) page.

As an experiment, I tried replacing the core jquery.placeholder.js with the
plugin of the same name from here:

This could be a good idea (less of our own code = better), but that
scripts seems to be missing two bits of functionality:
* Calling it as $(…).placeholder('Placeholder text') to set placeholder
(its .placeholder function doesn't accept any arguments).
* Support for inserting values into inputs with placeholders defined –
dragging text or rightclick-pasting it could result in new value
being appended to the placeholder or inserted in the middle of it.
If its maintainer wants to implement it, we could probably swap our
version for it like you suggested.

However, when the section title is multiple lines long (as can happen when the header contains a template), the edit summary box starts off blank.
