At English Wikisource, we have an issue that the main namespace is predominant
in search result, yet some of our namespace are of equal value in terms of
presentation for results. We would like to have searches give an equivalent
weighting to main namespace (works) and author: namespace (author pages,
ns:102). [It would seem that the default search result presentation from
CirrusSearch is more configured for a wiki where the primary presentation space
is the main ns.]
Example.
Search for 'Jules Verne'[1] presents 22 items of results to works where the
author is mentioned in the header template of main namespace works. Yet the
author page in the author: namespace ranks 23rd, yet is the only page where the
search phrase appears in the page title.
It would be desirable that if someone is searching for an author in a simple
search that the author: ns be presented as an early result. I am hoping that as
authors' names are reflected in the page title / {{PAGENAME}} parameter, that
this is a simpler fine-tuning of local criteria.

As a general note, that the other Wikisources may have a similar interest in a
configuration where they have separated namespace , and if it is able to be
undertaken at one that they may have similar requests for their respective
namespace.

For example, the header and author templates have each parameter aligned with Microformat data which may be able to better characterise specific searches. I would be appreciative to know that if the uses of our templates could be investigated, and any suggestions provided for improvements to get better search results, or coding for higher defined searches. Collapsible elements such as the ones generated by {{collapse top}}/{{collapse
bottom}} are not displaied at all in the mobile version.
I have seen bug 53136 and my understanding from the comments there is that
those elements should be displayed, but not collapsed, which is perfectly
acceptable.

As the search preferences for the namespaces to search is now a preference in the Special:Search area, is it also possible to also have the ability to specifically set the number of preferred results to display? Alternatively, once you have the specific number that you wish displayed, actually displayed, may it be possible to have the Remember selection for future searches also apply to the number of results. Also didn't see that this belong in either of the Extensions about specific searching as this is more about the MW presentation of results, rather than the searching capacity itself. One can also add an exact duplicate of the blacklisted link, elsewhere in the edit. I had forgotten why we had added the settings in the first place while we were having our conversation. After speaking with Nick I remembered that we'll be making it a default feature (for all logged in and logged out users) on a few wikis that have shown interest. Which is why we'll have to keep it the way it is. This pattern is being used by ReferencePopups too which is a gadget that is enabled by default for all users. (In reply to Matthew in comment #0) When I go to Enable Hovercards to change my settings, it always defaults to Read Quickly I think this is justified. My recommendation for a quick fix is to raise the timeout. For a permanent fix is to rethink using string distance as a measure of relevance. Its a very slow measure. What worries me is that the slow queries seem to block the MessageUpdateJobs. Increasing the timeout even more might not be a good idea in that light, or it might not make a difference. We could also try to limit the set of potential matches even further in the code. We should be very cautious about deploying the same algorithm to ElasticSearch (as per existing plans to stop using Solr). Nik knows better whether it might cause the same problem there, or whether that setup can make the problem smaller. I do have initial plans on working on translation memory (on my research time), but the ETA for that is more like end of this year.
