Its how I've done the bulk of the Cirrus communication at this point and I thought it was the right way to announce it. I should have updated a recent conversation on en:wp's Village Pump and did when someone pinged me. I should have remembered to do it earlier but I was trying to fix the problem. As far as how long the time being is - I'm working on it now. I have a hacked together solution the demonstrably works but that is only the first step. The remaining steps are mostly these: 1. Work with upstream (Lucene) to get a version of the hack that'd be acceptable for them to merge. 2. Backport those changes to Lucene to the plugins we use for regex search and highlighting. 3. Release new versions of those. 4. Deploy them to our search cluster. 5. Reenable the feature. You can sort of fudge on 1 and just backport something more hacky but that is somewhat more dangerous from a stability standpoint. But that is life and we'll do it if upstream drags their feet. He was just using a statically compiled binary in my homedir on stat1002. * How comes it happened right after the leader election? I am likely to be wrong, but I would think it is a coincidence. I had been corresponding with Ellery last week about how he can use kafkatee, and I think he started to use it around the same time. You said the logs started to appear around 10 minutes or so after the election, right? Again, I have not investigated this, and I could be wrong. Hence, re-opening, as I think these three items need more discussion. I think we can close this. It makes editing just too stressful when I have to constantly beware that my right index finger is hovering near that large green Thank button, because I've just scrolled down using that finger, or because the back button on my phone is millimetres away. A lapse in concentration, a fat finger incident, and I've sent a confusing and misleading message to the editor whose change I've been looking at. And there's no going back: no confirmation stage, no reversal. I don't understand the logic: when I thank someone on desktop, having carefully clicked on a precise little link, I get asked to confirm (which is no bother, just another quick click), but this stage isn't considered necessary when I've touched a large button occupying a high proportion of my small touchscreen.
