Unfortunately it is not. Getting and setting the correct locale for the user

system's locales verbatim.

This magic word will help administrators in patrolling unlicensed images.
Administrators delete a lot of unlicensed images every day and finding the
correct broken image in articles source text is a time consuming job. Sory for
bad english.
Thats part of the admin's responibility when deleting images (There are also
many scripts that automate the task from my understanding).
And it's not that hard to find the file either, just copy it's name and then go
to the article in edit mode and press [CTRL]+[F] in most of the major browsers
and find it.

[Bug 18596] parser function to detect if the current page is in a given category

--- Comment #2 from cenarium.sy...@gmail.com 2009-04-27 13:17:21 UTC ---
Good point, it could create cycles at evaluations.

We could remove the else parameter and return nothing if the page is not in
.

We wouldn't loose much essential functionality. Although, to keep it maximal,
the content in the else argument could also not be allowed to categorize at
all.

Disallowing categorization in Foo only would not solve the problem as a page
could contain and , or more of them in cycle.

--- Comment #2 from Bruno thecentercannoth...@yahoo.com 2009-04-27 13:20:14

err... maybe I'm confused, but (a) wikimedia projects are already generally
speaking localized (en.wikipedia, es.wiktionary...), and (b) each user can set
their language localization in their preferences (which I'm assuming is stored
in an easily accessible cookie, and probably defaults to the the encoding of
the project they're working on). given that (and cribbing from the PHP manual
at http://www.php.net/manual/en/function.sort.php):

?php
setlocale( 'LC_ALL', $lang_code ); // $lang_code form a cookie or project,
as above, possibly LC_COLLATE would be sufficient
sort( $array_of_watchlist_article_names, SORT_LOCALE_STRNG );
// ...continue processing the list normally
?

might be a few extra lines of housekeeping code needed, but otherwise why
wouldn't something like this work? also, I think this behavior changed in PHP
6, so there might need to be code to account for that.

(In reply to comment #2)
Job queue sounds like a match

I don't think that's a good idea. The limit of 100 subpages was added so that
moving a bunch of subpages could reasonably be done in one request, with
immediate feedback (success/error). If subpage moves are done through the job
queue, there's no way to inform the user when one of the moves fails (e.g.
because the target page already exists or is protected).

The
new function is now MWNamespace::getContentNamespaces(). I went ahead and
added it to every query where I think it should be used. In the process, I
took a stab at converting SpecialPopularPages over to the new syntax.

Thanks; I thought I had converted all of them, but I seem to have missed that
one somehow.

In terms of efficiency, using getContentNamespaces() instead of just NS_MAIN
shouldn't have any impact on wikipedia, because the two end up producing
identical SQL. And as someone who uses a wiki where the content namespaces
have been customized, I'd argue getContentNamespaces() needs to be used in all
possible queries -- because otherwise the corresponding special page ends up
being completely useless. If performance really is a limiting factors in some
of these queries, it might make more sense to just drop the namespace
condition
completely (or at least drop it if the content namespaces have been
customized).

True. In all of the queries you modified, it looks like the WHERE clause for
page_namespace is not indexed anyway, so whether it limits to one or more
values doesn't matter.

There are a couple of other minor fixes included in the patch that I came
across while doing a quick test-run of the code; I left them in place because
it seemed likely you'd want to make those fixes eventually. (Specifically,
abstract-ing PageQueryPage, fixing a missing ' in SpecialDeadendpages)

Good catch.

Would it be possible to allow sending variables to the templates, like you can
do with local templates? Also, I didn't know if the API would be a more
efficient way to do this, assuming that the functionality hasn't already been
modified to do it that way. Maybe there could be something in the api that
allowed variable input for templates, then it returns the appropriate content.
I think what you're looking for is:

api.php?action=parsetext=param1

Bug 14024 is related, and probably a dependency if the API is used this way.

What would be the result of ?

While interesting academically, it's obvious that such a conditional shouldn't
be used for real. Simply telling users not to use it because it can lead to
unexpected and/or unpredictable results is good enough IMO. That way, the
parser can simply ignore this use case and handle it in the most convenient
way.

Note that the fix is in trunk (1.15alpha), but not in any release of 1.14; in
fact, there is only one release of 1.14 (1.14.0) so far; I'll check with Tim
whether it would be worthwhile do to a 1.14.1 bugfix release. Meanwhile, you
can grab the current 1.14 branch (which is basically 1.14.0 with a bunch of
bugfixes) from http://svn.wikimedia.org/svnroot/mediawiki/branches/REL1_14

To clarify: we'd need a one-to-one mapping from the languages that MediaWiki
support to system locales. Such a one-to-one correspondence might not exist for
all languages, and naming schemes for locales vary across systems, which makes
creating and maintaining this mapping pretty much impossible.

A more viable option would be to specify the sort order for each language in
the language file; leaving it up to the i18n folks to decide whether this is
desired.

a 1:1 mapping would be nice, but not necessary: you make the best mapping you
can, check if the mapping fails, and use the (current/default) ASCII sort where
it does. Special:watchlist/edit is not an article page: it's unique to each
user, so you don't need to worry about consistency the way you need to with
more public pages.

but never mind. as I said, this is a trivial annoyance, and it's apparently
less trouble to live with it than to discuss it.

If the else argument doesn't transfer categories to the current page, it
shouldn't create conflicts. If this can't be done or it's too expensive, then
remove the else argument and simply provide {{#ifincategory: Foo| value if true

Reopening, recommend revert. darkblue and orange are both valid CSS3 colors:

http://www.w3.org/TR/css3-color/#svg-color

They've been interoperably implemented since forever in all browsers, and
orange and darkblue are much more comprehensible than their hex-color
equivalents. Broken validators that disagree with the specs should be ignored.

Fix broken regexp in SearchUpdate.php (patch to r49794)

If an article contains a symbol and there is no subsequent symbol
anywhere in the article, the si_text field for that article in the searchindex
table ends up completely empty -- even the text in the article before the
symbol is wiped out. It is therefore impossible to search on any of the
article's contents.

For example, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/UESPWiki:Mirror_Plan is currently
triggering this bug; si_text is being set to . Although UESP is currently
running MW1.10, the same bug occurs if the article is added to a test wiki
running r49794.

The basic problem is an incorrect pair of parentheses in a preg_replace
expression in SearchUpdate.php::doUpdate(). The attached patch file removes
those parentheses; I also did some secondary cleanup of the expression by
deleting some redundant chunks ([A-Za-z0-9]*\\s* is all covered equally well
by [^]*?, and the simpler expression doesn't mislead editors). The revised
regexp successfully processes UESPWiki:Mirror_Plan, and also successfully
processes some test pages containing html tags.

This was partially reverted in r49950 apparently on the basis that it looks
funny. :)

More seriously, it has some real problems:
* Hardcoded Wikimedia SVN URL means that extensions checked out from a
third-party SVN will be totally wrong
* Hardcoded trunk path means that extensions checked out from branch will link
to the totally wrong place
* Hardcoded path points just to 'extensions' and fails to specify the
particular directory

You should be able to extract the actual source path out of the .svn files just
like the version, in which case we can identify whether it's our own SVN and we
can stick a pretty viewvc link on it -- with the correct path.

Define broken?

Unless someone's putting something that doesn't belong into the message, I
don't see how this would come up. Explain?

My interpretation was that the entities were shown literally. Those came from
$wgLang-commaList().

The A confirmation e-mail has been sent to the nominated e-mail address.
Before any other e-mail is sent to the account, you will have to follow the
instructions in the e-mail, to confirm that the account is actually yours.
warning is now apparently shown on every submit, whether the field's been
changed or even if it's blank.

[Bug 18069] CSS valid code

Reopening, recommend revert. darkblue and orange are both valid CSS3 colors:

http://www.w3.org/TR/css3-color/#svg-color

They've been interoperably implemented since forever in all browsers, and
orange and darkblue are much more comprehensible than their hex-color
equivalents. Broken validators that disagree with the specs should be
ignored.

I used the official W3C CSS Validator, see this result:

On English Wiktionary this bloats a 24 kB edit page to 245 kB. Even zipped,
this more than doubles the size of transmitted HTML from about 8 kB to 20 kB.

It's pointless to send this to every editor including those who can't use it
without javascript. This is a content management system after all, so can we
manage the non-content just a bit?

I'm glad the extension's useful for translatewiki.net - it's great that I can
finally give back. This should be fully implemented in the latest version, 0.5
- let me know if there are any problems.

Is there a reliable way to identify whether the encoding conversion appears to
be successful that can distinguish these?

Alternatively, can we make use of things like Accept-Language headers to aid in
our guess?
